One intention for a medical clown encounter with a pediatric patient is empowerment, or restoration of agency. This paper explores these encounters through the lens of performance studies, play theory, and the author’s personal praxis as a medical clown to investigate the impact on the multiple audiences involved in a hospital encounter: patient, family, and staff. Medical clown encounters evoke Bernie De Koven’s notions of a “well-played game” and “play community,” and warrant further research to ascertain the impact beyond the initial encounter.

Objective: This caregiver case study applies the lens of relational coordination theory (RC) to examine the value of telehealth as a medium of care coordination for a pediatric patient with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an unprecedented burden on the delivery of healthcare around the globe and has increased the reliance on telehealth services. Delivering telehealth requires a high level of communication and coordination within and across providers as well as between providers, patients and their families. However, it is less clear how telehealth impacts the coordination of care. In this paper, we provide insight into the quality of care coordination between providers and an informal caregiver following policy changes to the provider payment structure in Massachusetts. Methods: This paper employs a single-case, autoethnographic study design where one of the authors uses their experiential insights, as mother of the patient, to inform a wider cultural and political understanding of the shift to remote caregiving for a pediatric patient with hEDS. Data was collected using reflective journaling, interactive interviews, and participant observation and analyzed using content analysis. Results: Findings revealed four interrelating roles of the caregiver including, logistics support, boundary spanner, home health aide, and cultural translator. The adoption of telehealth was associated with improved timeliness and frequency of communication between the caregiver and providers. Findings about the impact of telehealth adoption on accuracy of communication were mixed. Mutual respect between the caregiver and providers remained unchanged during the study period. Conclusions: This paper highlights areas where payer policy may be modified to incentivize timely communication and improve coordination of care through telehealth services. Additional insight from the perspective of an informal caregiver of a patient with a rare chronic disease provides an understudied vantage to the care coordination process. We contribute to relational coordination theory by observing the ways that caregivers function as boundary spanners, and how this process was facilitated by the adoption of telehealth. Insights from this research will inform the development of telehealth workflows to engage caregivers in a way that adds value and strengthens relational coordination in the management of chronic disease.

Community members living in borderland areas in Indonesia tended to be clasified as under-developed society in development aspects. Study on the borderland areas is still limited both in quantity and the impact of the study. Nanga Badau located in borderland between West Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Serawak (Malaysia) is one of the under-developed borderland area. This paper revealed the dynamic issues and the existence of local tradition in the context of globalization. It was showed that the original attitude of warn, friendly, and respect visitors express their openess toward global trend but still keep on local style. They are also realized on their position among global community. The open access abroad effected in the development of the interaction, information, and communication patterns among Iban Dayak. Sophisticated devices like mobile phone and television are familiar among Iban dayak in borderland area.

***

The Advanced Network Technologies is research that investigates technology(s) behind today’s modern networks and network infrastructures. One part of this technology being Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). A technology commonly in place in networks all around the world today. This paper focuses on ATM. Dubbed “Modelling and Performance Studies of ATM Networks”; this research seeks to look at and into the “impact of application segment length on the performance of an ATM network” and the “impact of traffic type data on the performance of an ATM network”. To be able to examine an ATM network, the authors need to be able to simulate a network. Thus, for this research, they have used the OPNET Modeler 14.0 Simulation software to create a network model that represents a ATM network. By actually simulating an ATM network at AUT University New Zealand, the authors can therefore change certain variables, and observe the effects the changes have on performance. As stated, one of the impacts that will be explored is the effect that application segment length has on an ATM network. Thus, one variable that will be changed in the authors’ simulation is the segment length. This is the length of each packet segment that is sent through the network for a particular traffic type. The second impact to be inspected is the impact of different traffic types on an ATM network. This network model is based on a campus network. An Application Configuration is setup with default parameters which specify 8 common applications used. Among them the ones that the authors will focus on are VOIP, Video and FTP. A Profile Configuration is setup that will define the 3 applications stated above. A fixed node model of 100BaseT will specify the profile configuration for each scenario and the number of work stations of each scenario.

In the literature, it is stated that there are correlations between 1) students’ habit of watching movies and speaking skill; (2) students’ discourse competence and speaking skill; and (3) students’ habit of watching movies and discourse competence to speaking skill simultaneously. Apparently, this theory is proved by the result of the research which was conducted in May 2013 at SMA Negeri 1 Karanganyar. This article discusses the result of the research. The sample is 30 from the population of 306 eleventh grade students. The instruments to collect the data are in the forms of questionnaire and test. The questionnaire is used to collect the data of students’ habit of watching movies while the test is used to collect the data of students’ discourse competence and speaking skill. The techniques which are used in analyzing the data are Simple Correlation and Multiple Regression Correlation. The result shows that in the level of significance α = 0.05, (1) there is a positive correlation between students’ habit of watching movies and speaking skill (rx1y = 0.632, to = 4.314 > tt = 1.7); (2) there is a positive correlation between students’ discourse competence and speaking skill (rx2y = 0.567, to = 3.64 > tt = 1.7), and (3) there is a positive correlation between students’ habit of watching movies and discourse competence to speaking skill simultaneously (Ry12 = 0.6525 and Fo = 10.012 > Ft = 3.35). It means the increase of students’ habit of watching movies and discourse competence, either separately or simultaneously, will be followed by the increase of the students’ speaking skill.

The concept of innovation has for a long time been considered as the drive behind the ever-changing positions and functioning of the global community. Since the beginning of twenty-first century, creative individuals and entrepreneurs have without influence declined to accept the existing products and services as being the ultimate solution to challenges the society faces. This scholarly analysis builds on the theory of disruptive innovation to categorize and analyze the impact of disruptive innovations on key sectors of an economy in terms of their impact on the strategies and commercialization from a sectorial perspective. This analysis offers insightful information in terms of disruptive innovations which can be categorized into market-driven, product-driven, and competency-driven disruptive innovations.
