Introduction: Regular fruit and vegetable consumption is one of the preventative indicators for the development of obesity, disorders, and diseases. This study aimed to identify the determinants of fruit and vegetable consumption based on social cognitive theory (SCT) among first-grade high school female students. Results: The mean (SD) score daily fruit and vegetable intakes were 3.43 () and 2.30 () units per day, respectively. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that environmental factors (β= 0.165, p= 0.009) and behavioral skills (β= 0.152, p= 0.025) have a significant effect on fruit consumption score. Behavioral skills (β= 0.151, p= 0.022) and social support (β= 0.143, p= 0.049) have significant effect on vegetables consumption score, the constructs of SCT explained 71% of the variances in fruit consumption and 9.8% of the variances in vegetable consumption. Mother's job (p= 0.032) and family income (p= 0.024) have a significant effect on fruit and vegetables consumption. Conclusion: Fruit and vegetable intakes were less than the WHO recommended level. Therefore, attention to environmental factors, behavioral skills, and social support is suggested.

Background: Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions globally, with a threefold increase from 1975 to 2016. The percentage of obese adolescents aged 12-19 years increased from 5% to 21% over the same period. Social Cognitive Theory can determine human behavior in limiting food intake (diet) and regular physical activity. A valid and accurate measuring instrument for the factors influencing obesity is essential. This study aimed to determine the reliability of measuring instruments for diet, physical activity, social support, and Social Cognitive Theory on overweight and obesity in adolescent girls. Subjects and Method: This study used primary data. As many as 15 study subjects were selected by simple random sampling. The value of item-rest correlation and Cronbach’s alpha were examined using split half method run on Stata 14. Results: Dietary intake questionnaire haditem-rest correlation ≥0.20 with Cronbach alpha= 0.77. Physical activity questionnaire had item-rest correlation ≥0.20 with Cronbach alpha= 0.78. Social support questionnaire had item-rest correlation ≥0.20 with Cronbach alpha= 0.88. Social cognitive theory questionnaire had item-rest correlation ≥0.20 with Cronbach alpha= 0.89. Abstract Objectives This study was to investigate whether social cognitive measures toward healthy eating are related to diet quality and eating behaviors among marriage immigrant women in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Methods A questionnaire was based on the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) and included the personal, behavioral and environmental factors from the SCT. The questionnaire developed by literature review, qualitative interviews, and pilot field test. The quality of diet and eating behaviors were assessed using the Nutrition Quotient for adults (NQ-A), which was validated and translated into subjects’ mother tongue. The survey was conducted on 153 marriage immigrant women from China, Vietnam, Japan, Philippines, Cambodia, Mongolia, Taiwan and Russia residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Around 49.0% of subjects (n = 75) need monitoring according to the NQ-A scores. Results First, in personal factors assessing importance and confidence for healthy eating, scores of self-evaluative outcome expectations and self-efficacy were lower in subjects required monitoring compared to their counterparts. Second, in behavioral factors, a half of questions regarding behavioral strategies for healthy eating showed lower scores in subjects required monitoring. Last, in environmental factors, scores of social support were also lower in the monitoring required group, which indicates they were less likely to receive help from family members for healthy eating than their counterparts. Conclusions The results from this study suggest that individual dietary behaviors can be changed by individual, behavioral, and environmental factors from the perspective of social cognitive theory. Based on social cognitive theory, this study proposes a research framework to investigate two different social media discontinuance behaviours: reduced usage and abandoned usage. Specifically, perceived technology overload, information overload and social overload are the environmental factors that induce negative personal states, including dissatisfaction and social media fatigue, which lead to negative behavioural changes, such as reduced usage and abandoned usage of social media. The proposed research model was tested empirically with data collected among Facebook users. The research results indicate that impacts from perceived technology overload, information overload and social overload on social network fatigue and dissatisfaction vary. Dissatisfaction exerts greater impacts on abandoned-usage behaviour than social media fatigue, but similar impacts on reduced-usage behaviour as social media fatigue. In addition, reduced-usage behaviour was found to lead to abandoned-usage behaviour. Finally, we discuss the theoretical and practical contributions that can be gleaned from the proposed research model.

Abstract Objectives To describe an e-Health intervention to improve vegetables and fruit intake among working Mexican adults, based on the Social Cognitive Theory. Methods We developed an e-Health intervention “neoser”, based on the Social Cognitive Theory and on results of a previous formative research conducted in a group of working adults. The main purpose of “neoser” is to increase vegetables and fruits intake (200 g per day, each). This study is a quasi-experimental pre-post single group. The participants recruitment will be carried out through e-posters by email and social media (Facebook and Instagram). Based on the literature, we consider a minimum sample size of 55 participants. “neoser” consists of 12 weekly sessions (nine educational sessions and three workshops) applying nine behavior change techniques targeting the constructs of the SCT. Strategies include support groups, reinforcement activities, a recipe book, and a handbook with activities and extra information to reinforce acquired knowledge and skills. “neoser” will be implemented through social media (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp), Zoom sessions, website and YouTube channel. The sessions will last 45 minutes with 20 participants, maximum, per session. Participants will complete online questionnaires to evaluate knowledge and constructs of the SCT, and 3-day dietary records; anthropometric measured and biochemical assessments will be obtained at baseline and at the end of the intervention. The main results are the vegetables and fruit intake, constructs of the SCT and knowledge. The secondary results are weight, height, waist and hip circumference, body water and fat, muscle mass and biochemical analyzes (lipids profile and blood glucose). The comparison of the results will be performed using t-test, chi-square, confidence intervals and analysis of variance), with a significance level of P < 0.05. Results Not apply Conclusions This intervention could contribute to the adoption and maintenance of vegetables and fruit consumption in Mexican workers and promote the use of e-Health interventions as global well-being digital strategies. Higher consumption of fruit and vegetables has been associated with a lower risk of various chronic diseases including coronary heart disease, obesity, and certain cancers. Recently, fruit and vegetable intake has also been linked with mental health, including depression. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the association between fruit and vegetable intake and depressive symptoms in young people and adults aged 15-45. The systematic review focused on peer-reviewed cohort studies published from 1 January 2000 to 31 August 2020 using searches of six electronic databases. The exposure was fruit and vegetable consumption analysed both separately and/or together, and the outcome was depression or depressive symptoms. Data from eligible studies were extracted according to predefined criteria and the studies were appraised using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for Cohort Studies to evaluate for study quality and risk of bias. To evaluate the association between fruit and vegetable consumption and depressive symptoms, a narrative synthesis was conducted. Of 9667 potentially relevant studies that were screened for title and abstracts, 144 full text studies were evaluated, and 12 studies from seven countries were deemed eligible and included in the qualitative synthesis. Using the NOS framework one study was categorised as ‘very good’ quality, ten studies were ‘good’ quality, and two studies were ‘moderate’ quality. With respect to combined fruit and vegetable consumption, two studies demonstrated an inverse association with depression. When the effects of fruit and vegetable on depression were analysed separately, five studies showed significant associations in fruit consumption, and two studies showed significant associations in vegetable consumption. Four studies showed no association between combined fruit and vegetable consumption and depression, one study showed no association between fruit consumption and depression, and two studies showed no association between vegetable consumption and depression. Despite some contradictory results in the studies included in this review, the evidence seems to be building that a possible association exists, and this may have implications for addressing the burden of mental illness in young people and adults aged 15-45 years. Well-designed prospective cohort studies are needed to provide more robust evidence on the diet-depression relationship.
