The process of implementing a systematic and integrated evaluation program for the faculty members of universities needs svarious resources and methods. In this regard, a portfolio has been introduced as a tool that reflects the performance of the faculty members, and represents the activities and developments of teachers through the evaluation of educational documents. In recent years, the use of electronic portfolios has been considered in the medical universities an example of which is Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, Accordingly, the document/electronic portfolio of the faculty members was developed which aimed at registration and evaluation process in determining duties of teachers at this University. The electronic educational portfolio was designed electronically which includes panels on teaching quantity, quality of educational performance, evaluation of documentation, research and technology, and executive-managerial activities. The results of the project can be used in the process of annual promotion, achieving grants, rewards and presenting performance and management report.

BACKGROUND: Doctor-patient relationship [DPR] refers to verbal and non-verbal communication between doctor and patient, which is of great importance in consultation sessions. AIM: Therefore, the present study attempts to explore the importance and value of DPR in Iran. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The method used in the study was conventional content analysis. The data were collected from 21 faculty members (FMs) of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), Shiraz, Iran, who participated in three focus group discussions (FGDs). Transcribed data were analysed using Conventional Content Analysis (CCA) which identified condensed meaning units, subthemes, and themes. RESULTS: Four themes were extracted from 198 meaning units, 87 condensed meaning units, and 17 subthemes. These included gateway [the role of DPR]; nonlinearity [the nature of DPR]; distortion (quality of DPR in the context); and dysfunctional system (weakness in health system). Generally, results showed DPR to be the gateway to consultations based on non-verbal communication and doctor empathy. The study showed distorted DPR which was due to the dysfunctionality of the health care system. CONCLUSION: As indicated DPR plays an important role in medical contexts, but if distorted it leads to an unsuccessful outcome. Therefore, to promote DPR, it is necessary to reinforce its structure. Thus, the infrastructure has to be modified and developed at all levels.

The performance evaluation process is used to conduct an objective assessment of the performance and the effectiveness of the employees, the compliance with the organizational values and hierarchy and the achevement of the standards of the organization. The employee performance evaluation is an exceptionally important segment in healthcare organizations. The managers (directors) of the healthcare organizations have to recognize the employees that efficiently complete their tasks, detect the need and the type of training necessary to improve their performance and adequately reward the most prominent employees. Taking into account the relevance of the topic, the subject of research in this papers is precisely the analysis of the performance appraisal of the employees, as a process that should help obtaining a clear picture of how successfully the tasks of a given position are performed and how much they contribute to achieving the strategic goals of the organization. Hence arisesthe problem of this research, which is the absence of a quality system for evaluation and assessment of the performance of the healthcare workers. Two research goals have been pursued, both scientific and practical. The scientific goal of the research is to provide quality performance evaluation of the healthcare workers, which leads to faster development of the organization and sustainable efficiency of the market, whereas the practical goal of the research is to utilize the obtained results in the creation of an efficient system for evaluating the performance of the healthcare workers who will integrate the quality work standards, thereby improving the motivation and the quality of work. The relevance of the topic will be explored and proven by defining a hypothesis that reads: If a health care organization adopts a quality system for evaluating the work of its healthcare workers, then the healthcare employees will strengthen their skills which will lead to increased motivation and work quality. To prove the hypothesis, an empirical research was conducted using a standardized instrument, i.e. a questionnaire containing 10 statements and a Likert scale: strongly agree, partly agree and disagree. The questionnaires contained closed-ended questions whereby the respondents could choose one of the answers offered. The survey was conducted in 2 private healthcare organizations in December 2017. The representative sample includes 73 doctors and 27 nurses/orderlies. In the process of analyzing the findings of the research, a deductive method, comparison method and a method of objectivity and relevance were applied. In the conclusion of the papers, on the basis of the obtained results, guidelines will be proposed for improvement and implementation of a quality performance evaluation system in the private and public health care.

\Electronic portfolios offer many advantages to their paper-based counterparts, including, but not limited to working on ICT skills, adding multimedia and easier sharing of the portfolio. Previous research showed that the quality of a portfolio does not depend on the medium used. In this article the perceived support for self-reflection of an electronic portfolio and a paper-based portfolio in the same ecological setting are compared. We made use of the fact that during this study about half of the first year medical students was using an electronic portfolio (n = 157) and the other half a paper-based portfolio (n = 190). Nine questions were added to the standard end of the block evaluation, which is handed to 25 percent of year one educational groups. Findings suggest that perceptions about the support for self-reflection, and the usefulness of compiling a portfolio, do not differ between students using an electronic portfolio and students using a paper-based portfolio.

Background. Continuing assessment of the quality of evaluation programs promotes the quality of exams and ensures learners’ accurate evaluation. This study aimed to examine the quality of the competency-based evaluation program for dentistry based on the context, input, process, and product (CIPP) model. Methods. In a mixed-methods study (quantitative-qualitative), dentistry students’ evaluation program using competency-based assessment methods was examined by dentistry professors based on the CIPP model and via a reliable and valid researcher-made questionnaire. The questionnaire had three sections on demographic information, evaluation questions, and open-ended questions. Descriptive statistics (mean and SD) were used to analyze the questionnaire items. Open-ended questions were analyzed by content analysis, and the quantitative part was analyzed using SPSS. Results. Twenty-five faculty members from the departments of orthodontics and dental prosthesis completed the questionnaires. The overall level of faculty members’ satisfaction with the new evaluation program was above average (54±17.02). They had the highest degree of satisfaction with output indices and the lowest degree with input indices. The analysis of the open-ended questions yielded two general categories of "providing the human and physical infrastructure" and "spiritual support and encouragement of educational innovation." Conclusion. The competency-based evaluation program needs the support of managers and planners. The faculty should provide the infrastructure for the implementation of these methods. By meeting the requirements, the professors will be motivated to implement these methods, and the paradigm can shift from traditional to novel evaluation methods.

This study aims to test the process of performance evaluation particularly the formality and participation may effect the procedural fairness. Research conducted in universities as educational institutions that prioritizes quality of education involving all work units. Survey method was apllied by distributing questionnaires to 70 educational staff. 55 questionnaires were returned and 47 questionnaires were qualified to be analyzed in this study. Regression analysis was applied withing the research to conduct hypothesis testing. The results exposes formalities of performance evaluation effects the perception of procedural fairness, yet participation does not effect the perception of procedural fairness. It may happen since respondents prefer to understand the right instrument in assessing performance in performance evaluation is more important than participation in evaluation. Being aware of the results from the research, the process of performance evaluation requires formalized practical implication in order to obtain fairness evaluation process for everyone in the organization.
