Health promotion activities are crucial amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Health promotion can be carried out through various methods, one of which is through musical activities. Musical activities may trigger a community’s awareness of the government’s programs related to minimizing the spread of COVID-19. The spread of COVID-19 reminds us that healthy behavior should be internalized as early as possible. The use of children’s songs as a medium of health education serves to promote healthy and clean-living behavior. Song creation for school-aged children could be an educational model to maintain personal and environmental health. In this study, data were collected through a literature review and observations of health-related issues for children. The song was created by determining the listener (i.e. children), the theme for adaptation to the new normal era (healthy behaviors), and the structure (AA, AB with simple variation of ABA, AAB); making the lyrics, a simple melody, and the song title; and writing in notation and socializing. The result of the study was a children’s song with a health theme, specifically related to healthy behaviors for adapting to the new normal, which can serve as a medium of health education for children. Abstract Health-related attitudes can be modified and supported most effectively at young ages. Young generations require more interpersonal and interactive pedagogical methods in programs engaged in health promotion, as well. The aim of the authors was to get an insight into a relatively novel pedagogical method, called peer education. This multilateral activity is focusing the procedure on attitudes, experience, and motivation of youngsters in connection with health promotion programs and community service work. In this article, the authors describe 1) the theory, origin, and principal influences of peer education compared to traditional teaching methods and 2) the new, efficiency-oriented and science-based methodology of health education program.

Prevention is a core element of the practice of dentistry in the 21st century. Of course the provision of evidence based dental treatment and surgical intervention are the main clinical roles for dentists, but, as health professionals, prevention is also a key responsibility (Department of Health 2012 ; Petersen 2009 ; Steele et al. 2009). Adopting a preventive orientation is relevant to all aspects of clinical care, from diagnosis and treatment planning to referral and monitoring procedures. Dentists and their team members have an important role in helping their patients prevent, control, and manage their oral health. Prevention is important for all patients, but support needs to be tailored to the needs and circumstances of each individual. It is also essential that any preventive advice and support is informed by scientific evidence to ensure maximum benefit is gained. Effectiveness reviews of preventive interventions have shown that many are ineffective and may increase oral health inequalities unless they are supported by broader health promotion interventions (Watt and Marinho 2005; Yehavloa and Satur 2009). Prevention in clinical settings therefore needs to be part of a more comprehensive oral health promotion strategy that addresses the underlying causes of dental disease through public health action, as well as helping patients and their families prevent oral diseases and maintain good oral health through self-care practices. Health education is defined as any educational activity that aims to achieve a health-related goal (WHO 1984). Activity can be directed at individuals, groups, or even populations. There are three main domains of learning (see also Chapter 9 ): . . . ● Cognitive: understanding factual knowledge (for example, knowledge that eating sugary snacks is linked to the development of dental decay). . . . . . . ● Affective: emotions, feelings, and beliefs associated with health (for example, belief that baby teeth are not important). . . . . . . ● Behavioural: skills development (for example, skills required to effectively floss teeth). . . . How do knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours relate to each other? For most people, in most instances, the relationship is complex, dynamic, and very personal; very rarely is it linear.

Background. Despite the large number of studies assessing health literacy, little research has been conducted with young adults. Since health literacy is related to the setting in which health information is provided, our study aim was to measure health literacy competencies in a sample of university students and to evaluate the relationships between these competencies and their university health education. Methods. A total of 912 university students (aged 18–24 years) completed the 47-item European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47). Results. Perceived difficulties with health information were related to gender, with male students reporting significantly lower health literacy scores. Studying more health education-related subjects was associated with a higher health literacy competency, due to these students’ higher rates of accessing and understanding health information in the health promotion domain. Conclusion. Health literacy among young adult university students is insufficient. The subjects they study are related to their university health education; in particular, the number of health-related subjects they study is positively related to students’ health promotion domain-based competencies.

ABSTRACT Objective: This review aims to map and provide an overview of literature concerning nursing strategies and intervention programs that promote healthy behaviors in cancer patients. Method: A scoping review was conducted using the methodological framework developed by Joanna Briggs Institute and preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses extension for scoping reviews. Twelve databases were searched (2012-2019). Retrieved data included descriptive analyses exploring studies’ methodological characteristics and results. Results: From 1589 studies, 12 were included. Most studies included patients on survivorship period (n=10) and selected intervention strategies focusing patient’s knowledge and awareness (n=8). Educational sessions were supported by behavioral change reinforcements and motivational incentives. Only two of the considered studies analysed intervention cost effectiveness, but none disclosed intervention-related costs. Conclusion: Nursing interventions are effective in promoting health behaviors when include health education and encouragement towards change. Survivorship is the perfect time for health promotion. Nurses can be considered health promoters, by encouraging health education and enhance survivor’s motivation.

Abstract Nowadays, thanks to greater awareness of society and development of restorative medicine, more and more attention is paid to preventive care. That is caused by the fact that there is little progress for both sexes in the frequency of healthy behavior: girls fall much worse than boys in terms of frequency of physical activity, they do not eat breakfast either; boys do not maintain a healthy diet and are reluctant to eat vegetables and fruits, they often drink high-calorie sodas and less frequently brush teeth. Though with age some improvements in oral hygiene and certain eating behaviors can be noticed. It has been determined that overweight and obesity is a serious problem, as they can contribute to developmental disorders. In this respect it should be the responsibility of teachers to provide individual physical education (according to medical qualifications), prevent various forms of discrimination and bullying among peers, provide individual counseling and health education, weight control of students. It has been defined that for modern teachers it is a difficult task as students rarely eat fruits and vegetables, do not care about hygiene and frequency of meals, have passive mode of leisure. The acquisition of health during puberty allows functioning smoothly in society. However, despite the continuous work on improving and introduction of new programs of health education classes into schools of Poland, children still suffer from health-related problems. According to epidemiological research most of children in Poland fall on obesity, overweight and accompanying disorders and allergies. Youth is also exposed to accidents and related injuries. The problem is that students do not receive assistance and necessary information.

Introduction: Implementation of the Federal Public Health Promotion Project should raise awareness and develop skills of healthy nutrition in children, thus contributing to disease prevention. Our objective was to evaluate the results of pilot nutrition monitoring in school-aged children of the Sverdlovsk Region as part of the Federal Public Health Promotion Project and the National Demography Project. Results: We established that school meals were generally satisfactory: the rations complied with physiological needs of children in terms of their nutritional value, basic nutrients, energy, and distribution of calories by main meals. We noted differences in the cost and nutritional value of meals and the variety of dishes and foodstuffs used between urban and rural areas. As a rule, pupils have one or two school meals a day. Outside of school, their consumption of dairy products and fruit is limited. Conclusions: Our findings may promote the elaboration of municipal programs aimed, inter alia, at changing the amount of sugar and salt used in the manufacture of public catering products, the cost of dishes with a high content of sugar, saturated fats, and salt, and subsidies on healthy nutrition.

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the acceptability of an oral health-related mobile application developed for young children based on the feedback given by the children and their parents. Another aim was to evaluate the self-reported change in children’s oral health behaviors during a short test period. The application—a virtual pet integrated into a child’s daily routines—aimed to promote oral hygiene and dietary behaviors in children. A total of 36 4–12-year-old voluntary children were given a mobile phone with the installed application. After the 5-week testing period, the feasibility of the application and possible changes in the children’s oral health behaviors were asked using an electronic questionnaire. Most of the children considered the application clear (n = 34), amusing (n = 31), and useful (n = 29). The children’s tooth brushing manners improved both qualitatively and quantitatively: the time used for tooth brushing increased and the children learned how to brush different tooth surfaces. Mobile applications can be fun and useful in oral health promotion; while playing, children can learn good oral health-related behaviors. Mobile applications integrate oral health promotion into children’s daily environment and routines.
