The study sought to explore the impact of counseling service on students’ academic performance in E.P. College of Education, Bimbilla. The objectives of the study were: one, to examine the impact of the counselling service on student-teachers’ academic performance; two, to find out what motivates student-teachers to patronize the counseling service; and lastly, to find out the perception student-teachers have about the role of the counseling service in E.P. College of Education, Bimbilla. The study employed the qualitative approach with case study in focus. Two hundred and fifty (250) student-teachers, four (4) tutor-counselors and a vice principal were selected using the stratified sampling technique. The respondents were made to fill questionnaires and also interviewed. After successful data collection, the data was analyzed using SPSS version 17. The data was also analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency distributions and percentages. Qualitative descriptions were also used in the presentation of data. The study found out that counselling service equips student-teachers with good study and time management skills to improve their academic performance. The study concluded that counseling service could help student-teachers build positive self-image which could lead to better academic performance. One of the implications of the findings is that if student-teachers seek counseling, they would be assisted to develop good study skills.

Effective time management leads to greater academic performance and reduces stress, strain and anxiety among students, however, students facing difficulties to keep a balance between their academic life and personal-social life. This study aims to examine the self-perceptions of undergraduate students’ time management behaviour by using Time Management Behaviour Scale (TMBS) developed by Macan, Shahani, Dipboye and Phillips (1990). The scale consisted of 34 rating items ranges from very often true to seldom true. The population of the study consisted of all undergraduate students studying in the academic session 2018-19 at public sector general category universities in Malakand division. By using stratified sampling technique a sample of 1050 undergraduate students were selected from the sampled universities. Students were also asked to provide their CGPA in their previous semester. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. It was found that prospective teachers have moderate to high level of time management skills. Significant relationship was found between undergraduate students’ time management behaviour and academic performance. It was recommended that university administration should orient students to enhance their time management behaviour by arranging seminars, workshops and conferences to enhance their time management skills.

Background: The increasing number of positive patients with Covid-19, the social impact in the form of stigma from being shunned by neighbors and even families and the impact of mental health, namely causing major psychosocial stresses that can trigger anxiety. Purpose  this study was to determine the stigma and level of public anxiety about Covid- 19. Methods: This type of research is descriptive quantitative, the study population is all people in the UPTD Haurgeulis Puskesmas, Indramayu Regency, as many as 88,468 people. The number of samples was 100 respondents using purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed statistically using univariate analysis and data presentation in the form of frequency distributions. Results: This study shows that people have a low stigma as much as 1% and those who experience a high stigma are as much as 99%. As well as people who do not experience anxiety as much as 14% and most of them experience mild anxiety as much as 86%. Conclusion: The public should be wiser in sorting out information related to Covid-19 from various sources and can manage anxiety with good self-coping management, for example by relaxation and positive thinking related to Covid-19.

The purpose of study was to determine the effect of traumatic events of December 16, 2014 on level of trauma of the children of Peshawar and the effect of traumatic experience their academics performance. Total sample consisted of two hundred (N=200) students with age range of 14-16 years (M=14.59, SD=1.128). Data was collected from the students of Army Public School and College System. Warsak road Peshawar and other three Schools on Warsak road included, Peshawar Public School, Peshawar Model School for Girls and Warsak Model School. Random sampling technique was used to recruit the study participant. Demographic information sheet, the Impact of Event Scale- Revised, Self-constructed questionnaire for measuring the Academic Performance of the students before and after traumatic experience of the students. Result showed that the terrorist attack effect the mental health of the students, students reported significant effect on their academic performance.

This study analyzes the relationship between students’ online work habits and academic performance. We utilize data from logs recorded by a course management system (CMS) in two courses at a small liberal arts college in the U.S. Both courses required the completion of a large number of online assignments. We measure three aspects of students’ online work habits: timeliness, regularity, and intensity. We find that students with a high overall GPA and a high grade in the course work on assignments early and more regularly. We also find that the regularity of work habits during the first half of the term predicts grade in the course, even while controlling for the overall GPA. Overall, however, the marginal predictive power of CMS data is rather limited. Still, the fact that high achieving students show vastly different work habits from low achieving students supports interventions aimed at improving time-management skills.

The globe is currently experiencing the immense and devastating impact of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the COVID-19 disease. College students are being uniquely impacted by the pandemic as well as the lockdown procedures that are in place. The current study utilized survey methods to investigate the impact of the pandemic on college students with a focus on changes in alcohol consumption and correlates of psychological health. Results found that participants reported a significant increase in alcohol consumption as a result of the pandemic. Furthermore, this increase in consumption related to a decline in psychological health. Exploratory analyses found that a decline in psychological health correlated with negative impacts in several life areas (financial, resource, social, and academic) and a decline in time management skills. However, spending time on leisure activities and spending time in-person with family and friends negatively correlated with psychological decline. Interestingly, news exposure to did not relate to psychological health.

Using English to teach and learn academic subjects in higher education (HE) across the globe is increasing in popularity. The overarching aim of this study is to examine the impact of English-medium instruction (EMI) on Omani engineering students’ academic performance and their studies in an English-medium engineering programme in Oman. This paper reports on findings from a larger project that was intended to investigate Omani engineering students’ experience of learning through the medium of English in one of the Colleges of Technology in Oman. The study adopted a qualitative interpretative approach with a case study strategy and a purposive sampling technique to look into the impact of EMI on Omani engineering students’ academic performance and their studies. The sample included 12 Omani engineering and 8 engineering instructors who were interviewed along with five classroom observations. The data were collected and generated through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations. They were analysed manually, inductively and thematically using Braun and Clarke’s model (2006). The findings showed that EMI had both positive and negative impacts on the students’ academic performance and their studies.

The study analyses the impact of part time work on academic performance of international students while they study. In doing so, the study has conducted a survey among international students who were studying at different tertiary institutes in Auckland region. The study found that there are positive as well as negative impacts on the students’ academic performance while they study as well as work. The study opines that whether the impact would be positive or negative depends on time management between work and study. Findings of the study may be of interest for policy makers, educationists, and researchers.

BACKGROUNDWithin academic development, it is important for students to use effective study strategies to facilitate learning. Techniques used for long-term information retention include note taking strategies, time management, methods of self-testing and active recall. These strategies are explored to help students learn more effectively to attain their academic goals.METHODA mixed-methods systematic review of peer-review articles and grey literature was conducted with a predetermined criteria for a convergent integrated synthesis approach. PsychInfo (Ovid), Web of Science, and ProQuest databases were searched with guidance of a PICO-P logic grid and search strategy using keywords of student, study strategies, and achievement alongside filters. Initial studies were screened and reconciled by two independent authors with the use of a piloted screening tool. Using the Mixed Methods Assessment Tool (MMAT), included studies were assessed for quality. Two authors independently performed data extraction. Heterogeneity in study designs, outcomes, and measurements precluded meta and statistical analyses; thus, a qualitative analysis of studies was provided.RESULTSFour major themes contributing to academic performance were identified among the appraised articles. These themes were self-testing, scheduling/time management, concept maps, and learning styles. Self-testing, scheduling, and concept maps were positively correlated with increased academic performance, while no correlation was found with learning styles and academic performance.CONCLUSIONIncluded studies provided evidence for significant differences in study strategies implemented by high and low achieving students, such as areas of motivation for learning, efficiency, active recall, retrieval practices, and concept maps. Understanding the effectiveness of certain study strategies is critical for students and educational facilitators to maximize learning.

The study investigated the levels of stigma consciousness among physically challenged students in tertiary institutions in Oyo State. It ascertained the effect of stigma consciousness on the academic performance of physically challenged students. Also, the study determined the relative influence of self-image on stigma consciousness of physically students. Furthermore, it examined the influence of self-image on stigma consciousness of physically challenged students. These were with a view to providing information on the factors that could influence stigma consciousness of the physically challenged students. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised physically challenged students in tertiary institutions in Oyo State. Three institutions (University of Ibadan, The Polytechnic Ibadan and Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo) were purposively selected within Oyo State because they have the physically challenged students. A sample size of 120 physically challenged students were selected from the institutions using proportionate random sampling technique. One adapted instrument with two scales was used to collect data from the students. The scales were “Stigma Consciousness Scale (SCS) and Self-Image Questionnaire (SIQ). Data collected were analysed using percentage, frequency counts, one-way ANOVA and multiple regressions. The results of the study showed that 4.8%, 88.6%, 6.7% of tertiary institutions in Oyo State demonstrated low, moderate and high levels of stigma consciousness respectively. The results showed that there was no significant effect of stigma consciousness on the academic performance of the physically challenged students (F (2.102) =0.059, p=0.943). It was also discovered that there was a significant positive influence of self-image on stigma consciousness of physically challenged students (N=105, t= 0.198, p< 0.05). Finally, the results showed that the self-image (β =0.019, F=1.98, p<0.05) contributed significantly in influencing stigma consciousness with coefficient of multiple regression (R2) of 0.164  at p < 0.05. It was concluded that self-image could influence stigma consciousness among physically challenged students in tertiary institutions.
