<p>The use of antibiotics for controlling of luminous vibriosis caused by <em>Vibrio harveyi</em> is restricted now, because it induces antibiotic-resistant bacteria and leave residue in shrimp’s body. An alternative solution that can be done to treat the disease is by using applications of probiotic, prebiotic, and synbiotic. The aim of this research was to examine the effect of probiotic, prebiotic, and synbiotic on the survival rate and growth of Pacific white shrimp against <em>V. harveyi</em> infection. Feed as a treatment was supplemented with probiotic 1%, prebiotic 2%, and probiotic 1%+prebiotic 2% (synbiotic). Shrimps feed without supplementation of probiotic and prebiotic was used as a control treatment. The shrimps were maintainedin the aquarium (60×30×35 cm3) with a density of 40 shrimps/40 L and an average weight of 0.4±0.1 g. After 30 days of feeding treatment, the shrimp was challenged by immersion method with <em>V. harveyi</em> solution containing 106 CFU/mL. The results showed that before challenge, synbiotic feed treated shrimp has a growth rate (5.89%), feed conversionrate (1.21), and a high survival rate (80%). After challenge, survival rate (83.33%) of shrimp fed diet supplemented with synbiotic was higher than prebiotic (51.67%) and positive control (31.67%).</p> <p>Keywords: probiotic, prebiotic, synbiotic, <em>Vibrio harveyi</em>,Pacific white shrimp</p>

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to produce microencapsulated probiotic Pseudoalteromonas piscicida (1Ub) and evaluate it with prebiotic mannan-oligosaccharide (MOS) through the enrichment of Artemia sp., on bacterial population, growth performances, immune responses, and disease resistance of Pacific white shrimp larvae. Microencapsulation of probiotic was done by the freeze-drying method. The shrimp larvae were reared for 13 days and fed by the Artemia sp. enriched with microcapsule of probiotic 1Ub (10 g/L), prebiotic MOS (12 mg/L), synbiotic, and control without administration of microencapsulated probiotic and prebiotic, including negative (C-) and positive (C+) control. On the day 14, all of the experimental shrimp larvae except C- were challenged through immersion method with Vibrio harveyi MR5339 (107 CFU/mL). This study showed that the administration of microcapsule of probiotic 1Ub, prebiotic MOS, and synbiotic through the enrichment of Artemia sp. could increase the bacteria population, growth performances, immune responses, and disease resistance of Pacific white shrimp larvae. Moreover, synbiotic treatment demonstrated the best result compared to other treatments.

ABSTRACT Vibrio harveyi is a Gram-negative bacterium associated with vibriosis in penaeid shrimp. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of a V. harveyi strain isolated from Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) during a vibriosis outbreak. The availability of this genome will aid future studies of vibriosis in shrimp aquaculture.

In the present investigation, we evaluated if the presence of tilapia affects growth and survival of shrimp during pre-growth and grow-out phases. In both experiments, we used a random-blocks design in a single earth pond (0.75 ha) that was prepared and divided into nine (7 x 30 m) enclosures that were considered to be three blocks of three enclosures each. Each randomly stocked block consisted on Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (30 shrimp/m2) and three different densities (0.0, 0.25 and 0.50 fish/m2) of red tilapia hybrids (Oreochromis mossambicus x Oreochromis niloticus) to give three different treatments with three replicates. The results from the pre-growth and grow-out experiments followed the same trend. In both cases, we found no significant statistical differences (P>0.05) in the final average weight of the shrimp. However, the experimental blocks had a significant (P<0.05) effect on the mean sample weight of shrimp. Shrimp in blocks B and C were significantly bigger than shrimp from block A (P<0.05). For both experiments, we found no effect of the presence of tilapias on survival or growth of shrimp.RESUMENEvaluamos si la presencia de tilapias libres afecta el crecimiento y la supervivencia de camarones en fase de preengorda y engorda.
