<p class="abstracttextDILIGENTIA">Faculty members of a private Christian Teachers College in Tangerang have been assigned to integrate faith and learning. The purpose of this research was to describe Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics lecturers’ practices of faith learning integration on their teachings. Five lecturers including two lecturers teaching Physics, and the others each teaching Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics were involved in this research. Two student teachers contributed as well in the research. The data were derived from interview with five faculty members and collecting their course syllabus along with the interview with two student teachers. <a name="_Hlk80149555"></a>Descriptive qualitative research with a case study approach was employed. The data were described and analyzed in the light of the current literatures. The findings showed that those five faculty members have been implementing faith learning integration on their teaching with a pedagogy of transferring new information. This paper suggests faculty to go beyond faith learning integration and to focus on learning as formation of heart and desire.</p>

Using a new information system is a journey that end-users follow, sometimes by choice and at other times by obligation. This journey changes their attitudes and behavior as they explore the system and discover its workings. In this chapter we map such a journey using Morgan’s (1986, 1997) metaphors by tracking a change in end–user attitudes and behavior. We use a longitudinal case study approach to follow this journey, report the direction and any shifts in end-users’ conceptual position. Our results show that within a space of eighteen months the organization’s overall metaphorical stance shifted from the organism to the machine metaphor. This reflects the end-user’s initial optimism for the change to enable ease of working to that of efficiency dictated by the senior management towards the end. This shift was due to organizational conditional factors, such as the ISD methodology.

The disruptive growth of new information technologies is transforming the dynamics of citizen communication and engagement in the urban context. In order to create new, smart, inclusive, and transparent urban environments, the city governments of London and Madrid have implemented a series of innovative digital applications and citizen communication channels. Through a case study approach, this research assesses the best practices in the field of digital communication and citizen engagement implemented by London and Madrid, with a particular focus on the profile, content, and functions of these new channels. The results of this research are intended to identify relevant new dynamics of interaction and value co-creation for cities and their residents.

ABSTRAKBerhenti menggunakan narkoba merupakan kesulitan terberat bagi seorang pecandu karena sering sekali pecandu mengalami sugesti serta rasa sakit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan perilaku penggunaan, pemulihan kecanduan narkoba, dan proses pengambilan keputusan untuk berhenti. Metode kualitatif dengan rancangan studi kasus digunakan dalam penelitian ini, dimana lima orang informan dipilih dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara mendalam yang selanjutnya dianalisis dengan menggunakan thematic analysis. Teknik pengecekan keabsahan data dilakukan dengan cara peer debriefing dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya dua informan yang melewati semua tahapan proses berhenti yang dimulai dari tahapan menilai informasi baru, melihat alternatif-alternatif yang ada, mempertimbangkan alternatif, membuat komitmen, dan bertahan meskipun ada feedback negatif. Faktor terbesar yang dapat mempengaruhi keberhasilan untuk berhenti menggunakan narkoba adalah niat kuat dalam diri dan adanya dukungan keluarga yang positif. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan berhenti menggunakan narkoba dipengaruhi oleh niat dan adanya dukungan positif dari keluarga.Kata Kunci : Pengguna Narkoba, Proses Pengambilan Keputusan, Dukungan Keluarga ABSTRACTQuitting drugs is one of the most challenging goal for a drug addict because the addicts frequently face withdrawal and pain. This study aims to describe drugs use behavior, rehabilitation of drug addiction and decision-making process to quit drugs. Qualitative method with case study approach was applied on this study. Five informants were selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected by in-depth interviews which then analysed with thematic analysis. Data validity techniques applied for the study were peer debriefing and literature review. Study result revealed only two informants went through all stages of quitting process, starting from receiving new information, exploring available alternatives, making commitment and sustaining despite presence of negative feedbacks. The biggest factors that influence success of quitting drugs are strong internal motivation and positive family supports. This study showed that strong internal motivation and positive family supports are influential to the success of quitting drugs.Keywords: Drug, Decide, Family support

Immersive technologies are rapidly transforming the field of education. Amongst them, Augmented Reality (AR) has shown promise as a resource, particularly for education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). There are, however, few teachers deploying this new medium in the classroom directly, and, consequently, only a few, elect students benefit from the AR-enriched offers. Curricula are already overloaded, and schools generally lack developmental resources, thus leaving no room for experimentation. This situation is further aggravated by the too few educational applications available with sufficient learning content. In this article, we investigate the method of Active Learning for the teaching of STEAM subjects, using a format where students are tasked with building an AR application as part of their learning. We evaluate the applicability of the Active Learning for STEAM subjects with a qualitative, case study approach, applying the workshop format as an extracurricular activity in our work with students from a range of secondary schools in Oxford. We discuss how the format works, so it can be embedded into regular curricula, not just as an extracurricular activity, also providing an overview on the involved teaching units and rationale. All teams in our preview audience of the case study succeeded in building working applications, several of impressive complexity. Students found that the lessons were enjoyable and AR technology can enhance their learning experience. The Active Learning method served as a catalyst for students’ skills development, with the case study providing evidence of learning to code, working with a physics simulation engine, ray-tracing, and geometry, learning how to manage teams and interact with other students/instructors, and engineering a working prototype of a game. We consequentially argue that combining the STEM subjects and the arts, using the proposed Active Learning format, is able to provide a more holistic and engaging education.

The challenges confronting the United States and the world are increasingly scientific and technological in nature with corresponding solutions rooted in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Policymakers are increasingly soliciting input and advice from experts in the STEM disciplines. To be successful in a future advisory role requires that current graduate students become more than just authorities in their respective fields. To serve in a capacity to influence national policy and help craft solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges requires universities instill other qualities and attributes in their graduate students. This can be accomplished through greater adoption and more frequent use of the case study method. The case study approach to teaching, rarely used in STEM at the undergraduate level and even less frequently utilized at the graduate level, has the potential to help students thrive in graduate school and prepare them to later work with policymakers to address national and global challenges.

The study purposes were to understand the background of women scientist (WS) in studying science, what motivate them to choose science and technology field, exploring their achievement, understanding their social support, exploring their problems. This research was qualitative case study approach. The key informant were four who come from Industrial Engineering and Mathematics and Science Faculty of Universitas Islam Indonesia. The data collection method used depth interviews, observation and documentation. The data test method used triangulation while analysis uses reduction-display-conclusion. The research found that WS studied science because of their interest of internal factor and the environment role of external factor. Their motives also gave benefit for others and increase their networking that is bit similar to McClelland’s Theory. WS had high excellent achievement in functional and structural positions, they received awards from their university until international award which are related to their research result. They also occupied important university structural position. They faced role conflict problem which similar to Greenhaus and Beutell (1985) Theory which increase their behavior changing. They faced marginalization because of their marital status and fear of success tendency which are losing cooking skills and having risk of not having friends which similar to Shaw and Costanzo (1982) Theory.

This study aims at investigating the student teachers’ anxiety related to the teaching practicum as well as the factors that contribute anxiety during teaching practicum, and exploring the student teachers’ strategies in overcoming their anxiety during teaching practicum. Qualitative research with a case study approach employed in this study. STKIP Invada Cirebon was chosen as the site and English student teachers were the participants of this study who did teaching practicum at SMK RISE Kota Cirebon, while the data were collected through interview and weekly journal. This study discover that students teachers’ anxiety related to the teaching is situation-specific anxiety, and the factors contribute anxiety can be grouped into six categories: being not familiar with the situations in the classroom, being observed by mentor or supervisor, incompetence in teaching, not match with expectations, less English proficiency, and classroom management. So that this study also identifies six categories of coping strategies employed by student teachers: adaptation, preparation, build a good relationship with the mentor and the students, self confidence, positive thinking, and keep calm and enjoy it. The findings of this study give insight for supervisor university, mentor, and student teachers about anxiety may arise during teaching practicum. Key words: Anxiety; Student Teachers’ Anxiety; Teaching Practicum; Cause of Anxiety; Strategies in Overcoming Anxiety.

PurposeThe purpose of this case study is to explore the perceptions of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) faculty members toward mentoring undergraduates.Design/methodology/approachWithin the context of a student scholarship and faculty development project, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), STEM faculty members were interviewed at a small teaching-focused university in South Texas, United States. This research study utilized a qualitative case study approach based on semi-structured interviews with nine Mathematics and Computer Science faculty members. Transcripts were coded thematically, beginning with open coding and continuing with repeated rounds of comparison leading to the identification of four themes.FindingsFour themes were identified in the data: describing settings where mentoring occurs, identifying the tasks of mentoring, developing skills for mentoring others and inhabiting the identity of a mentor. These findings suggest that increasing faculty engagement and effectiveness in mentoring STEM students may be a matter of broadening the definition of mentoring and helping faculty members develop the identity of a mentor.Practical implicationsIn an effort to promote retention of students, specifically within STEM fields, many initiatives highlight the importance of faculty mentoring for undergraduate students. This research suggests that faculty members' perceptions of the role and structure of a mentoring relationship will shape this relationship and have an impact on student persistence and success.Originality/valueWhile most studies of faculty–student mentoring focus on the experiences of students, this study explored faculty members' perceptions of that relationship.

Preparing good and skillful human resources in language learning is avoidable, particularly for the country like Indonesia which is still a developing one. The intent of this qualitative study in the case study tradition was used to explore what the academic factors that made EFL student teachers as future human resources feel stressed in English language learning at one public university in Jambi, Sumatra, Indonesia. We adopted a qualitative case study approach. Using a convenience case strategy, we interviewed EFL student teachers. The primary data for our study were collected through the face-to-face interviews. The interviews were conducted in English, audio-taped, and directly transcribed verbatim. The interviews data were analyzed through reading line by line all the transcriptions to find major themes. We found eight salient and interweaved themes led EFL student teachers as future human resources feel stressed in English language learning  including (1) internal and external factors of choosing English as a major,(2) pleasure and displeasure feeling in studying English in university, (3) positive and negative responses to the lecturers in studying English, (4) positive and negative influences of friends in English major, (5) feeling about academic activities (credits, assignments, subjects and examinations) (6) feeling about discussion or presentations, (7) the most pressure or stress issue during the learning processes, and (8) dealing  with the stressors. The findings of this study shed light on our understanding of the academic factors that made EFL student teachers as future human resources feel stressed in English language learning.
