AbstractThe links and interactions offered by the social networks allow the understanding of how information flows occur among individuals and institutions that join forces to pursuit common goals. The paper presents conceptual aspects of networks and social networks, emphasizing that the structure and the interaction and intermediation relationship among the links of the network drive changes in information flow. Describes the Analysis of Social Networks (ARS) methodology, indicating how it can be used in the Information Science to understand the information flows, that shape and re-shape the social networks, starting from the structure of relationships.

Social networks fundamentally shape our lives. Networks channel the ways that information, emotions, and diseases flow through populations. Networks reflect differences in power and status in settings ranging from small peer groups to international relations across the globe. Network tools even provide insights into the ways that concepts, ideas and other socially generated contents shape culture and meaning. As such, the rich and diverse field of social network analysis has emerged as a central tool across the social sciences. This Handbook provides an overview of the theory, methods, and substantive contributions of this field. The thirty-three chapters move through the basics of social network analysis aimed at those seeking an introduction to advanced and novel approaches to modeling social networks statistically. The Handbook includes chapters on data collection and visualization, theoretical innovations, links between networks and computational social science, and how social network analysis has contributed substantively across numerous fields. As networks are everywhere in social life, the field is inherently interdisciplinary and this Handbook includes contributions from leading scholars in sociology, archaeology, economics, statistics, and information science among others.

In Dakar, faced with crisis and uncertainty, social answers begin to appear. Only those having a supportive social network could find a place in the labour's market. The observation of the daily routine of any of Dakarís micro-businesses and its social aspects, reveals the wide area of interference that exists between waged worker and the relation networks with family and relatives, ethnic groups and Muslim brotherhoods. The urban economy is supported by a network of family, alliance, and client relations. The overlap existing between waged and unwaged work can be understood only by looking closely at the network of social ties present outside the production site. Switching from the analysis of urban work relationships in Africa to the analysis of social networks is almost spontaneous, because a system of relational actions and strategies grows around the figure of the worker. The importance of the “strength of weak ties” in procuring employment is as a whole confirmed, but African sociability creates an intense inter-network relational interchange. Dakarís urban space feeds a “popular economy” where social networks and the gift-giving logic co-exist with market economy. This economy utilise different wage embryos or tokens salaries for each of the social players.

The issue of information diffusion in small-world social networks was first systematically brought to light by Mark Granovetter in his seminal paper “The Strength of Weak Ties” in 1973 and has been an area of active academic studies in the past three decades. This chapter discusses information proliferation mechanisms in massive online social networks (MOSN). In particular, the following aspects of information diffusion processes are addressed: the role and the strategic position of influential spreaders of information; the pathways in the social networks that serve as conduits for communication and information flow; mathematical models describing proliferation processes; short-term and long-term dynamics of information diffusion, and secrecy of information diffusion.

In an environment characterized by high unemployment rates among people with disabilities, the objective of the present work is to analyze entrepreneurship as a labor option which fully inserts people with intellectual disabilities (PwID) into their societies. In order to carry out this research, a case study methodology based on social network analysis has been adopted, given the nature of the variables analyzed. The results indicate that the fact of having managed to start up the company has been an important source of self-confidence and inspiration, as well as increasing and intensifying the social networks of PwID involved in the entrepreneurial project.

ABSTRACT – This paper begins with a discussion of the concept of populism in order to analyze how Jair Bolsonaro’s criticisms of the press circulated on the social network Twitter at a time when Brazil had recorded the highest number of covid-related deaths, in the first week of March 2021. This paper presupposes that the president’s support network incorporated the populist binary rhetoric of “us” against a “corrupt elite” which is responsible for conspiring and amplifying the effects of the health crisis in the country. As a methodology, we opted for a mixed proposal based on content analysis and analysis of social networks. As a result, we found that the tweets from Bolsonaro supporters claim that the press is corrupt, and manipulates and harasses the president in its coverage of the pandemic. Any data that user creates or owns is known as the user's data (For example: Name, USN, Phone number, address, email Id). As the number of users in social networks are increasing day by day the data generated by the user's is also increasing. Network providers will publish the data to others for analysis with hope that mining will provide additional functionality to their users or produce useful results that they can share with others. The analysis of social networks is used in modern sociology, geography, economics and information science as well as in various fields. Publicizing the original data of social networks for analysis raises issues of confidentiality, the adversary can search for documented threats such as identity theft, digital harassment and personalized spam. The published data may contain some sensitive information of individuals which must not be disclosed for this reason social network data must be anonymized before it is published. To do the data in nominate the anonymization technique should be applied, to preserve the privacy of data in the social network in a manner that preserves the privacy of the user whose records are being published while maintaining the published dataset rich enough to allow for the exploration of data. In order to address the issue of privacy protection, we first describe the concept of k-anonymity and illustrate different approaches for its enforcement. We then discuss how the privacy requirements characterized by k-anonymity can be violated in data mining and introduce possible approaches to ensure the satisfaction of k-anonymity in data mining also several attacks on dataset are discussed.

The article analyses the content of Internet messages of the Crimean and Ukrainian segment of the network about events in Ukraine and the Crimea for the period from 2017 to 2019. The authors’ research interest is due to the degree of conflict and the ambiguity of the informational assessment of events on the Crimean and Ukrainian topics that took place during this period, and, as a result, the formation of conflicting information flows of the Ukrainian and the Crimean segments of the Internet network. In the course of the study, we used a system-efficient approach that studies the Internet space as a product of the social environment; comparative analysis, which we used to compare the content of Internet messages of online communities of Ukraine and the Crimea; method of content analysis, which made possible assessment of the social and political mood of the audience of Ukrainian and the Crimean Internet users. The authors present the results of a cybermetric analysis of messages from online communities of social networks Facebook and VKontakte. The tone of information flows on UkrainianCrimean themes remains negative, which is a consequence of the complex and contradictory relations between Ukraine and Russia in the realm of politics. We revealed the interest in social, cultural and linguistic discourses in the information flows of the Ukrainian and the Crimean segments of VKontakte and Facebook networks, which may act as a factor in combining Internet audiences with different political positions. However, it requires a separate in-depth cybermetric analysis.

Abstract: This study aims to analyze technological knowledge and information flows intra and extra-cluster, as well as the cognitive roles the firms play. It was decided to investigate such flows among firms and institutions that compose the wine cluster of Vale dos Vinhedos, mountain region of Rio Grande do Sul, responsible for approximately 90% of the national wine production. The social network method was used for this article. As main results, it is highlighted: the information flow has a distinct dynamic from the technological knowledge flow established among firms; they play different cognitive roles in the identified technological knowledge network; great part of the connections established is with companies from the cluster itself; and the search for knowledge in support institutions in the area is intense, highlighting the importance of geographical proximity in the established relations.
