ABSTRACT – This paper begins with a discussion of the concept of populism in order to analyze how Jair Bolsonaro’s criticisms of the press circulated on the social network Twitter at a time when Brazil had recorded the highest number of covid-related deaths, in the first week of March 2021. This paper presupposes that the president’s support network incorporated the populist binary rhetoric of “us” against a “corrupt elite” which is responsible for conspiring and amplifying the effects of the health crisis in the country. As a methodology, we opted for a mixed proposal based on content analysis and analysis of social networks. As a result, we found that the tweets from Bolsonaro supporters claim that the press is corrupt, and manipulates and harasses the president in its coverage of the pandemic.

At a time when academic activity in the area of communication is principally assessed by the impact of scientific journals, the scientific media and the scientific productivity of researchers, the question arises as to whether social factors condition scientific activity as much as these objective elements. This investigation analyzes the influence of scientific productivity and social activity in the area of communication. We identify a social network of researchers from a compilation of doctoral theses in communication and calculate the scientific production of 180 of the most active researchers who sit on doctoral committees. Social network analysis is then used to study the relations that are formed on these doctoral thesis committees. The results suggest that social factors, rather than individual scientific productivity, positively influence such a key academic and scientific activity as the award of doctoral degrees. Our conclusions point to a disconnection between scientific productivity and the international scope of researchers and their role in the social network. Nevertheless, the consequences of this situation are tempered by the nonhierarchical structure of relations between communication scientists.

Abstract. The increased educational use of social networks is due to the fact that they offer resources that facilitate both the monitoring of academic activity and the social aspects inherent in the educational process; however, these platforms are not usually used as a resource for education. Facebook offers various channels of communication and has shown its potential for channeling collaborative activities between students. In this experience, Facebook was used as an environment to develop the characteristics of the sports education model (season, affiliation, formal competition, systematic registration, festive atmosphere and final celebration) in the area of Physical Education, using the resources of the social network. Each of the characteristics of the educational model was developed through the tools of the social network in a group created as a complementary resource to the educational action in the classroom. The parents of the participating students registered and were able to participate in the activity from a distance, which was extended outside the school thanks to the use of Facebook. The results showed increased monitoring, parental involvement, and the building of a community of practice. The educational model used was fully developed, helping the students “keep an eye” on the activity outside the school.

Social networks have become areas of social interaction among young people where they create a profile to relate with others. The way this population uses social networks has an impact on their socialization as well as the emotional and affective aspects of their development. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze how Facebook is used by young people to communicate among themselves and the experiences they gain from it. On the one hand, while teenagers claim to know the risks, they admit to accepting strangers as friends and to sharing large amounts of true data about their private lives. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the media and digital phenomenon that the youth are living through. Although they are legally prohibited from using Facebook until they are 13, the number of underage users of this social network is growing, without any restraint from parents or schools. This investigation compares the use of Facebook by youth in Colombia and Spain by using the content analysis and interview techniques. In Colombia 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews carried out with students between 12- and 15-years-old attending the Institución Educativa Distrital Técnico Internacional school in Bogotá. In Spain, 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews held with students of the same age group attending various secondary schools in Andalusia.

Nowadays, in the field of social bots investigations, we can observe a new research trend — a shift from a technology-centered to sociology-centered interpretations. It leads to the creation of new perspectives for sociology: now the phenomenon of social bots is not only considered as one of the efficient manipulative technologies but has a wider meaning: new communicative technologies have an informational impact on the social networks space. The objective of this research is to assess the new approaches of the established social bots typologies (based on the fields of their usage, objectives, degree of human behavior imitation), and also consider the ambiguity and controversy of the use of such typologies using the example of botnets operating in the VKontakte social network. A method of botnet identification is based on comprehensive methodology developed by the authors which includes the frequency analysis of published messages, botnet profiling, statistical analysis of content, analysis of botnet structural organization, division of content into semantic units, forming content clusters, content analysis inside the clusters, identification of extremes — maximum number of unique texts published by botnets in a particular cluster for a certain period. The methodology was applied for the botnet space investigation of Russian online social network VKontakte in February and October 2018. The survey has fixed that among 10 of the most active performing botnets, three botnets were identified that demonstrate the ambiguity and controversy of their typologization according to the following criteria: botnet “Defrauded shareholders of LenSpetsStroy” — according to the field of their usage, botnet “Political news in Russian and Ukrainian languages” — according to their objectives, botnet “Ksenia Sobchak” — according to the level of human behavior imitation. The authors identified the prospects for sociological analysis of different types of bots in a situation of growing accessibility and routinization of bot technologies used in social networks. Keywords: social bots, botnets, classification, VKontakte social network

The Digital Natives naturally coexist with new technologies and the social phenomena it brings. Digital natives are a virtual demanding community, they look for social networks that may contains tools and digital contents according to their personalities, interest and passions, youth and teenagers could leave a social network if the network does not have the features that they need. A interesting case of movement between social networks have happened in Spain; for some years young people actively involved in a national social network for teenagers named Tuenti, later, with the arrived of Facebook to Spain, they left Tuenti and moved to Facebook. We have evaluated this situation for extract information about what caused it, because we think something similar is happening at this time: it seems that Spanish young people are abandoning Facebook and moving to Instagram.
