The aim of this study was to develop a scale to determine the barriers affecting undergraduate students seeking psychological help. In line with this purpose, the validity and reliability of the scale were examined in five different samples. Exploratory factor analysis results suggested that the scale consists of five dimensions, labeled as fear of being stigmatized by society, trust in the mental health professional, difficulties in self-disclosure, perceived devaluation and lack of knowledge in the first sample. The confirmatory factor analysis cross-validated the scale’s five-factor structure on a new college students’ sample. The convergent and divergent validity of the scale were also supported with theoretically and empirically expected correlation with self-concealment, self-stigma, and attitudes towards seeking psychological help. Moreover, the scale was found to have an adequate stability coefficient across three weeks and appropriate levels of internal consistency coefficient reliability for each of the subscales in two different samples. These initial findings show that theBarriers to Seeking Psychological Help Scale is a valid and reliable instrument to measure hindrances related to psychological help-seeking for undergraduate students. Future studies can examine the validity and reliability of the scale on different samples and cultures, as well as predictive validity on college students’ decisions to seekcounseling.

This study used a person-centered approach to investigate university students’ profiles of career adaptability and determine whether different combinations of concern, control, curiosity, and confidence could be identified. We also explored the relations of these profiles with emotional intelligence, anticipatory emotions, and career decision-making self-efficacy. We found six distinct profiles of career adaptability among 307 university students who differed both on their level and on shape. Emotional intelligence was associated with profiles displaying higher levels of career adaptability. Furthermore, profiles of career adaptability significantly displayed differences in terms of positive anticipatory emotions at the prospect of the school-to-work transition and career decision-making self-efficacy but not in terms of negative anticipatory emotions. These results highlight that differentiating profiles of career adaptability provide insights for the design and the implementation of career-related interventions among university students.

В данной статье оценивается психоэмоциональное состояние студентов бакалавриата КазНМУ в условиях пандемии COVID-19, основанное на анкетировании. В исследовании приняли участие 490 человек: 370 человек (75,5%) со школы общей медицины, со школы общественного здравоохранения - 77 (15,7%), со школы педиатрии - 43 человека (8,8%). Была выявлена зависимость уровней депрессии и тревоги от таких показателей, как беспокойство за свое здоровье и здоровье своих близких, беспокойство за свою успеваемость и чувство возросшей учебной нагрузки, трудности с концентрацией при учебе, ощущение социальной изоляции и наличие финансовых трудностей. В то же время демографические показатели не влияли на выраженность депрессии и тревоги у студентов. При анализе методов борьбы с психоэмоциональным стрессом никто из ответивших не сказал об обращении за профессиональной психологической помощью в условиях пандемии, в связи с чем основной рекомендацией данной работы было посещение психолога. This article assesses the psycho-emotional state of undergraduate students of KazNMU in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on a questionnaire. The study involved 490 people: 370 people (75.5%) from the school of general medicine, from the school of public health - 77 (15.7%), from the school of pediatrics - 43 (8.8%). Depression and anxiety levels were found to be dependent on such indicators as concern for their health and the health of their loved ones, anxiety for their academic performance and a feeling of increased workload, difficulty concentrating while studying, feeling socially isolated and having financial difficulties. At the same time, demographic indicators did not affect the severity of depression and anxiety in students. When analyzing methods of dealing with psycho-emotional stress, none of the respondents said about seeking professional psychological help in a pandemic, and therefore the main recommendation of this work was to visit a psychologist.

In the conditions of rapid development and increasing the accessibility of the beauty industry, a person forms an ideal image of himself, which must be met. The consequences are expressed by the widespread dissatisfaction in the society with the appearance inherent in people of any age and representing a potential threat to physical and mental health. In order to study the peculiarities of eating behavior in women who negatively assess their appearance, a psychodiagnosis of a sample of 98 women aged 18 to 60 years was conducted with the study of assessing attitudes to their own bodies, assessing eating behavior, and assessing the level of social anxiety. As a result of the data obtained, the importance of timely diagnosis of manifestations of social anxiety for people seeking psychological help with the aim of correcting eating behavior, low self-esteem, dissatisfaction and dissatisfaction with their bodies, non-acceptance of their appearance, and also people who have an increased risk of eating disorders and body image disorders.

<p>The present study had the objective of analysing the relationship between Emotional Intelligence, Positive Affect, VIA's virtues and character strengths. Additionally, it was explored if Emotional Intelligence predicted the virtue's levels of the participants, and if Positive Affect constituted a possible mediator. To that end, different measures were used: 419 undergraduate students completed the Spanish version of the Trait Meta-Mood Scale for emotional intelligence (TMMS, Fernández-Berrocal, Extremera &amp; Ramos, 2004). Character strenghts and virtues were assessed with the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS; Peterson, Park, &amp; Seligman, 2005), and Positive Affect (PA) was measured with the Spanish version of the Positive and Negative Affect (NA) Schedule (PANAS; Sandín et al., 1999). Our results showed a significant positive correlation between all the VIA strengths and virtues with TMMS scales Emotional Clarity and Emotion Repair. Emotional Attention showed significant correlations for all the virtues except Temperance. Further analyses demonstrated that TMMS scales predicted VIA virtues, and Positive Affect appeared as a possible mediator in the prediction of Temperance and Humanity virtues. These results support the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and strength of character, as well as the importance of Positive Affect in this relationship.<strong></strong></p>
