Background: Heat cured acrylic resin is often used as a component of denture. One of the heat cured acrylic resin properties is water absorption that affects the change in acrylic color. An alternative using natural compound to minimize side effect is arising when compared to synthetic materials. A mixture of  small white ginger and garlic extract can be used as natural denture cleanser. Objective: This study aimed to know the color changes of heat cured resin plate that immersed in a mixture of 70% small white ginger and 10% garlic extract. Method: This was a true experimental study with pretest and posttest with control group design, using simple random sampling. The sample was cylindrical acrylic with 15 mm diameter and 2 mm thickness. The research was done using 18 samples heat cured acrylic resins which were divided into 3 groups, the mixture of 70% small white ginger and 10% garlic extract, alkaline peroxide, and distilled water. The color change of the sample was tested using digital analysis tools set. Results: The mean value of color changes in heat cured acrylic resin plate after immersion in a group of mixed extracts, alkaline peroxide, and distilled water were 6.23, 3.65 and 2.48. Data were analyzed using  One Way ANOVA parametric test and Dunnet T3 Post Hoc test. Conclusion: There is a difference in color changes of heat cured resin plate after the immersion in a mixture of extract and alkaline peroxide. Background: Discoloration of denture acrylic resin base is one of the problems in appearance for patients who use them. The most common habit can cause discoloration in the denture usually associated with the patient's diet. One example is consuming red dragon fruit juice. Red dragon fruit juice contains many anthocyanin substances that can give color from colorless to purple. Furthermore, color changes indenture can also cause by the characteristic of the acrylic resin plate itself which can absorb water due to porosity. Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the negative effects of consuming red dragon fruit juice solution on heat cured acrylic resin based plate. Methods: This type of research is laboratory experimental and the design of this research is pre-test post-test with control group design. The number of samples were 32 pieces selected using Simple Random Sampling method. The samples were divided into two groups, control (n = 16, distilled water solution) and tentative (n = 16, red dragon fruit juice solution). Color measurement using a digital spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade). The initial color of the plate was measured before immersion into dragon fruit juice. The immersion period were 7 days to 14 days, the color of the plates was then measured after immersion. The data analysis test used was Friedman statistical test and Mann Whitney statistical test. Findings: There were significant differences in the color of the heat-cured acrylic resin plate after 7 and 14 days of immersion in distilled water solution and red dragon fruit juice solution. Novelty: Red dragon fruit juice can cause color discoloration on heat cured acrylic resin based plate.

Background: The denture base material that is widely used is heat cured acrylic resin. One of mechanical properties of acrylic resin that must be considered in the selection of the basic denture material is flexural strength. Flexural strength is needed, among others, to resist the chewing power that must be received by dentures. The commonly used denture cleanser is Alkaline peroxide. 100% small white ginger extract can be used as natural denture cleanser. Objective:  This study aimed to compare the flexural strength of heat cured acrylic base which in soaked 100% small white ginger extract with Alkaline peroxide solution as artificial denture cleanser. Method: This study was a pure laboratory experimental study with post test only with control group design, using simple random sampling. The sample was rectangular with a size of 65x10x2,5 mm. The number of samples used was 24 heat cured resin acrylic which was divided into 3 immersion groups, 100% small ginger extract, Alkaline peroxide, and aquades. The immersion carried out for 3 days 19 hours 25 minutes, obtained from 5 minutes denture cleanser presentation every day for 3 years. Flexural strength was tested using a Universal Testing Machine 3 Point Bending. Result: The everage flexural strength value of heat cured acrylic resin after soaked in 100% small white ginger extract was 70,98, in Alkaline peroxide 87,37, and 91,05 in aquades. The data was annalyzed using parametric One Way ANOVA test and Post Hoc Bonferroni test. Conclusion: The flexural strength of heat cured acrylic resin that soaked in 100% small white ginger extract is smaller than Alkaline peroxide after immersed for 3 days 19 hours 25 minutes.

Proposition: The purpose of this study was to evaluate in vitro the color changes of esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures of different shades when exposed to four food colorings commonly found in the diet of patients. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures in the colors pearl, pearl blue, pearl white and colorless, which were immersed for 72 hours in five different solutions: distilled water (control group), coffee, tea, Coca-Cola ® and wine. The color changes of the esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures were measured with the aid of a spectrophotometer, at T1 - as provided by the manufacturer; and T2 - after colorings process. Results: The results indicated that the esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures of all initial hues are susceptible to pigmentation. Among the evaluated colors, all changed the finished look and the color of the samples tested. In ascending order, the color of the samples was as follows: distilled water, Coca-Cola®, black tea, wine and coffee. Conclusion: The substances that have a greater potential for pigmentation in esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures were black tea, wine and coffee, respectively. All shades of esthetic orthodontic elastomeric ligatures are susceptible to color change.

Aim: This work aimed to evaluate the color stability of an acrylic resin chemically activated (ARCA) using different handling techniques, and a bisacrylic resin when exposed to different pigmentation solutions.Material and Methods: Silicon matrixes were confectioned (10x10x3mm) to be used as specimens. The groups were designed as follows: Group Pot, Group Brush, Group Manufacturer and Group Bisacrylic (n=18). Each group was exposed to three different pigmentation solutions: distilled water, coke and chlorhexidine digluconate 0.12%. Three readings were performed for each specimen using a spectrophotometer, and the evaluations were carried out in three different time. After the color reading, three averages and the standard deviation of variation were performed after 24 hours (T1), 7 days (T2) and 14 days (T3). Data were submitted to the ANOVA and 2 criteria and Tukey (P<0.05) in the statistical software SSPS 18 for Macintosh (SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA).Results: When compared the solutions in each group of material, there was no statistically significant difference, except for T3, where the group Dencor Brush and Bisacrylic demonstrated higher color variation in all the solutions, even in the control group, and the values in Chlorhexidine higher than the other, showing greater instability after 14 days. Conclusions: With the results, bisacrylic resin used as provisory prosthesis material presents greater color instability than the ARCA, when submitted to different solutions. Bisacrylic resin and Dencor Brush present significantly visible color changes in chlorhexidine solution after 14 days. All the materials in coke solution present homogeneity in the color change after 7 days exposition to the solution, with no visible color change.

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the color stability of different universal composites and to evaluate the effects of keeping them in water for 1 week before coloring. Methodology: Filtek Ultimate (FU), Estelite Ʃ Quick (EQ), and Ceram X One (CX) composites were used. The specimens were kept in the dark, dry environment for 24 hours, then polished, and each composite group was divided into 3 groups: the control, the group that was kept in water for 1 week before coloring and coloring (n=7). The samples in the control group were kept in distilled water for 3 weeks. Samples in the coloring group were colored with coffee for 2 weeks (C), and the samples in the last group were kept in water for 1 week and then stained with coffee for 2 weeks (W+C) (n=7). Color measurements for all samples were taken twice, once before and once after the coloring period. The color changes of the samples were measured using the ∆E* parameter, which was calculated with before and after measurements.  Results: For all composite resins, the ΔE values of the samples in the W+C and C groups were significantly higher than those in the control group. When the composites were compared with each other, the differences between the ΔE values of the composites in the control, W+C, and C groups were not statistically significant. For FU and ESQ, at the end of the coloration period, there were no statistically significant differences between the W+C and C groups. However, for CX, the color change of the samples in the W+C group was significantly higher than that in  the C group. Conclusion: Storage in distilled water for 1 week before staining did not reduce the color change values of the samples. Thus, after composite restorations are performed, there is no need to advise patients to avoid staining foods, especially in the first week after restoration.   How to cite this article: Abdulateef OF, Çobanoğlu N, Gürses M. Nanofiller composite resin (NCR) restoration has a major problem, namely color changes. Polishing are factors that determi-ne color change and if accompanied by the use of mouthwash for a long time can cause more significant color changes. The 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash is a mouthwash that is often used in the community because it has low toxicity. However, using the chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% mouthwash in the long term can cause more significant discoloration. This study is aimed to determine the difference between discoloration of polished and unpolished NCR on the soaking of 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. This purely experimental research with a pretest and posttest with control group design, using 24 samples of premolar teeth prepared with class II cavity design and then filled with NCR. The samples were then di-vided into 4 treatment groups, namely polished and non-polished NCR, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash and aqua-dest. Soaking was carried out 24 hours a day for 5 days in an incubator at 37ºC. Color changes of each group were measured using shade guide Vita Classical. The results were analyzed descriptively and the normality was tested by the Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's homogenity test with significance value of 0.05. Mann-Whitney for the different test. Based on the results of this study, it is concluded that the discoloration of the polished NCR was smaller than that was not polished on the soaking of chlorhexidine mouthwash 0.2%
