The current study has two objectives. The first is to describe the process of developing a metacognitive model on in-service teachers’ academic writing through virtual flipped classrooms and then secondly, to investigate the teachers’ research writing interests using a metacognitive model on in-service teachers’ academic writing through virtual flipped classrooms. This research was conducted in the Demak regency. The researchers also used the Research and Development method. Validation results exemplify that the application of a metacognitive model to academic writing in the in-service teachers through virtual flipped classroom specifically used appropriate teaching materials to be used in classroom teaching, the attention is given to the outcomes of the validation, such as; the concept of conformance indicators, material performance indicators, demonstration indicators, and capability indicators. This proves that the metacognitive model on in-service teachers’ academic writing through virtual flipped classroom applications runs smoothly and according to what is expected. In addition, it has positive interests from the teachers which could give good impact in their writing research article.

Information technology has become an important carrier for the implementation of flipped classrooms, giving full play to the role of modern education technology and transforming the traditional classroom teaching form into an important form in today’s education reform. This article mainly studies the simulation of the flipped classroom model of listening and speaking teaching for English majors based on artificial intelligence. A total of 31 English majors were selected for the experiment, including 7 boys and 24 girls. After obtaining the consent of school leaders and teachers, 16 weeks of experimental teaching were carried out in the class. The experimental subjects had not been exposed to the flipped classroom teaching mode before the start of the experiment, and they were willing to participate in this experiment. After the phased flipped classroom teaching mode was carried out in the experimental class, the teaching objects in the experimental class were selected in the form of interview questionnaires to understand students’ attitudes and acceptance of the flipped classroom teaching mode in English listening and speaking classes. Adjust and improve the poststage flipped classroom teaching model to provide reference. During the experiment, the control class adopted the multimedia courseware-assisted oral teaching method and, in the experimental class, flipped the classroom oral teaching mode. Teachers integrate resources when preparing lessons to design flip-flop classroom oral English teaching, and teachers guide students to use the internet to search for resources and preview independently. The average value of the English self-management learning ability of the students of this major was 27.48 points before the experiment started. After passing the experiment, the score increased to 38.90 points, and the average value increased significantly (t = −20.189, P < 0.01 ). A comparatively complete comparison of English listening and speaking teaching results was carried out. Before the implementation of the flipped classroom, the students’ average professional English score was 76.23 points, and the average score after the launch was 84.39 points. The overall average score increased by 8.16 points. With regard to students’ English learning scores, there has been some improvement. The results show that, through the implementation of flipped classrooms, students have exercised their ability to self-manage their learning and strengthened their ability to make learning plans, implement them, and reflect on the effectiveness of learning.

In writing a research article, the introduction seems to be the hardest part to write. In fact, many research articles are found to have insufficient introduction, lacking some important elements of a quality introduction. Hence, this study was conducted to assess through content analysis the quality of the introduction of published articles authored by researchers in Mindanao. Fifty samples were analyzed based on the widely accepted standards for writing the introduction. Descriptive statistics was used in the analysis of the data. Findings reveal that most of the introduction samples had missing elements of a quality introduction. The most missed out element was a statement establishing a gap to indicate academic importance, followed by a statement of the practical importance of the study and general statement of the problem of the study. As to the structure of the introduction, most of the samples followed the standard structure, proceeding from general to specific statements. The findings imply that many published research articles by researchers in Mindanao have introductions that do not meet the standards for writing quality introduction, hence the need to reorient researchers to the basics of writing a good introduction. Keywords – Research writing, introduction, writing research introduction, elements of the introduction, content analysis, Philippines

UNSTRUCTURED Background The flipped classroom changes the model of traditional teaching and reverses the order of knowledge transfer and internalization. It has received much attention in undergraduate medical education. Pathophysiology courses are critical in bridging basic medical science and clinical medicine courses in the Chinese medical curriculum system. The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of flipped classrooms in pathophysiology courses. Methods In the spring semester of 2018, we carried out a research on flipped classroom teaching for second-year clinical medical students at the College of Medicine in Nanchang University. The chapters on hypoxia and respiratory failure were selected. The effect of flipped classroom was evaluated by classroom performance, final examination and questionnaires. Results Our study found that the students in the flipped group achieved higher scores on their in-course assessments and final exams. The majority of the students reported that the flipped classroom promoted their learning motivation, made them more confident and helped them understand the pathophysiology content. Moreover, the students also improved their problem analysis and teamwork abilities. However, some students from the flipped group also reported that the self-learning and preparatory work before class increased their learning burden, as some of their other courses were following a flipped classroom teaching approach at the same time. Conclusions This study highlights the feasibility of the flipped classroom in pathophysiology teaching. However, further studies are required to assess the broader acceptance and implementation of flipped classrooms among undergraduate medical students.

This essay reflects on experimental writing that incorporates poetry into research. The author supports the move toward research writing that breaks the constraints of traditional academic writing, but raises the concern that such writing must not casually adopt the form and name of poetry without studying the craft. Along these lines, she suggests that in order for work that introduces poetry into research to be done effectively, researchers must study the craft of writing poetry as critically as they study the craft of writing research. Finally, the author suggests that instead of attempting to map poetry onto research, researchers may be better served by borrowing from the poetic to more accurately define the goals, quality, and purpose of experimental writing. In this way, researchers may learn from poetry to further enhance their own critical art.

This study investigates characteristics of EFL students's academic writing, particularly students research proposals. This study aims to uncover how novice researchers introduce their research topics within the larger research area. In particular, this study focuses on how students establish their research territory in the introductory parts of their proposals. This study focuses on students knowledge and preparation for conducting scientific research and the structural characteristics of students's research proposals. The study is based in Swales(1990) CARS Model for research article organization. This descriptive qualitative study involves 136 student proposals collected from 6th semester bachelor students majoring in English who enrolled in Research of Language classes in four academic years 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018. Analysis of students topics indicates that most students are not yet well-prepared for conducting research. Analysis of the structural characteristics of the proposal also shows that students lacked substantial knowledge on research area or disciplines as well as scientific writing, particularly research writing, that detriment their success for entering the research community. Serious pedagogical and training efforts need to be done to improve students ability and preparation for research.
