Sealants and adhesives are used in the repair and preservation of damaged solid organs. This study examines the matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) activity in the healing of liver injuries treated with two biological adhesives (Tachosil® and GelitaSpon®) as well as that of a new elastic cyanoacrylate (Adhflex®). Methods. We induced in 90 male rats hepatic lesions using a Stiefel biopsy punch in the liver. Wound healing was assessed 2, 6, and 18 days after injury by quantifying MMP1, 2, 8, 9, and 13 tissue levels. The histopathological repair was evaluated by hematoxylin-eosin, Masson’s trichrome, and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining and CD31, CD68 immunohistochemical marker. The three sealants used supported complete healing of liver lesions. Both histopathology and MMP findings indicate that the degradation process of Adhflex® is slower and produces a strong inflammatory reaction at the beginning of healing. Results. All the MMPs measured disclosed higher values at an early stage of the healing process in animals treated with Adhflex® and Tachosil, the expression of for MMP2 and MMP9 being significantly higher in the Adhflex-treated group. Animals treated with Tachosil had significant higher values of MMP8 and MPP13 than the Adhflex-treated group. Animals treated with Adhflex® showed a maintained overexpression in all the MMPs tested even at the latest wound healing stages. Conclusion. Notably, this MMPs overexpression did not negatively influence the histological healing process of hepatic injuries. Given that all hepatic trauma injuries should be considered emergencies, any easy-to-use and rapid sealant, such as Adhflex®, could be considered a suitable treatment option.

Methods. Liver traumatic injuries were experimentally induced in 90 male Wistar rats using a Stiefel biopsy punch in the liver. Wound healing was evaluated 2, 6, and 18 days after injury by determining MMP1, 2, 8, 9, and 13 expression. The histopathological repair was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin, Masson’s trichrome, and Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) staining. The three sealants used supported complete healing of the liver lesions. Both histopathology and MMP findings indicate that the degradation process of Adhflex® is slower and produces a strong initial inflammatory reaction. Results. The sealants contributed to complete healing. Histopathology and MMP findings indicate that Adhflex® has slower degradation and a strong inflammatory reaction at the onset of healing. Early on, all MMPs showed higher levels in Adhflex® and Tachosil®-treated animals, and MMP2 and MMP9 expressions were significantly higher in the Adhflex-treated group at 18 days post-injury (T3). The Adhflex® group had significantly higher MMP8 and MPP13 levels than other treated groups and showed a sustained overexpression of all MMPs, even in the latest healing stages. Notably, the overexpression did not negatively influence the histological healing process. All hepatic trauma injuries should be treated as emergencies, and any easy-to-use and rapid sealant like Adhflex® could be considered as an option for treating liver trauma.

Materials and methods. In experiments on 180 male rats weighing 180200 g, the wound-healing effect of derivatives of imidazole (IEM-1181) was evaluated as a 10% ointment on models of aseptic full-layer linear and planar skin wounds. Results. It was found that the compound IEM-1181 in the form of 10% ointment has a pronounced on skin wound healing effect, manifested in the qualitative features of the regenerative healing process. With local application of the ointment containing the tested compound, the strength of the tissue formed on the site of a full-layer linear skin wound was increased when its edges were stretched, and the healing time of full-layer planar wounds was reduced. The morphological picture of the tissue formed at the site of the wound defect corresponded to complete healing by primary tension with complete epithelization of the surface and squamous cell differentiation of the epithelial regenerate without signs of inflammation and scar formation. Conclusion. The results of the study on experimental models of full-layer linear and planar skin wounds indicate that the wound healing effect of the tested ointment is due to the anti-inflammatory activity of the IEM-1181 compound

The aim of the study was to evaluate if a pre-incisional N-acetylcysteine (NAC) treatment altered the process of wound healing in a rat model. The dorsal skin of 24 Sprague-Dawley rats was incised in six locations. Before the incisions were made, skin was injected either with lidocaine and epinephrine (one side) or with these agents supplemented with 0.015%, 0.03%, or 0.045% NAC (contralaterally). Photographic documentation of the wound healing process was made at 11 time points. Rats were sacrificed 3, 7, 14, or 60 days after incision to excise scars for histological analysis. They included: Abramov scale scoring, histomorphometry analysis, and collagen fiber arrangement assessment. Skin pretreated with 0.03% NAC produced the shortest scars at all analyzed time points, though this result was statistically insignificant. At this NAC concentration the scars had smaller areas on the third day and were narrower on the day 4 compared with all the other groups (p < 0.05). On day 7, at the same concentration of NAC, the scars had a higher superficial concentration index (p = 0.03) and larger dermal proliferation area (p = 0.04). NAC addition to pre-incisional anesthetic solution decreased wound size and width at an early stage of scar formation at all concentrations; however, with optimal results at 0.03% concentration.

Abstract Introduction Burn is one of the most severe traumas that causes coagulative destruction of the skin. The use of various products that accelerate wound healing in patients with burn may affect the patient’s survival and reduce the complications that may be seen. In the present study we aimed effects of subcutaneous ozone injection on second degree burn wound. Methods A total of 72 Sprague-Dawley male rats included in the study were divided randomly into three groups (control group (CG), silver sulfadiazine group (SG), ozone group (OG)) and each group was divided randomly two subgroups (as sacrificed on d7 and on d14).A deep second degree scald burns were created on the lower back. In CG subcutaneous 0.9% serum saline was injected daily into the burn area. In SG, burns were dressed with silver sulfadiazine daily and in OG subcutaneous ozone was injected daily into the burn area. Tissue hydroxyproline level measurement and histopathological evaluation were done. Results When the groups were compared in terms of weight change, no significant difference was found on the 7th and 14th days. In the evaluation made in terms of tissue hydroxyproline, tissue hydroxyproline level in OG was found to be significantly higher on both the 7th and 14th days (p &lt; 0.001). In histopathological evaluations, it was determined that wound healing in OG was significantly higher than in the other groups. Conclusions According to the results, subcutaneous ozone therapy is more effective than silver sulphadiazine in the healing process of second-degree burn wounds and it can be safely used in the treatment of burn wounds.

The snakehead (Channa striata) contained fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 are useful as nutrients in accelerating the wound healing process. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the oil phase extract ointment snakehead in the healing of acute wounds open stage II. Testing the effectiveness of wound healing using 6 groups: normal, gel bioplacenton (positive control), ointment base (negative control), ointments snakehead extract oil phase concentration of 10; 20 and 40% of the 4 rats with acute wounds open stage II and observation until day 16 injury. The area of the wound was measured with the image J program Macbiophotonic, calculated% healing power, and AUC values. A statistical test to the total AUC values per rat with SPSS for Windows 22.0 program using One Way ANOVA and Post-hoc LSD test. The results showed a significant difference in the negative group with ointment concentration of 20% (p <0.05). The treatment group phase ointment fish oil extract is effective for wound healing is best to have a concentration of 20% for percentage of wound healing power of 97.157% and the average AUC value of 865.683% of the day.

Propolis is a chemically complex resinous bee product which has gained worldwide popularity as a means to improve health condition and prevent diseases. The main constituents of an aqueous extract of a sample of green propolis from Southeast Brazil were shown by high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy/mass spectroscopy to be mono- and di-O-caffeoylquinic acids; phenylpropanoids known as important constituents of alcohol extracts of green propolis, such as artepillin C and drupanin were also detected in low amounts in the aqueous extract. The anti-inflammatory activity of this extract was evaluated by determination of wound healing parameters. Female Swiss mice were implanted subcutaneously with polyesther-polyurethane sponge discs to induce wound healing responses, and administered orally with green propolis (500 mg kg−1). At 4, 7 and 14 days post-implantation, the fibrovascular stroma and deposition of extracellular matrix were evaluated by histopathologic and morphometric analyses. In the propolis-treated group at Days 4 and 7 the inflammatory process in the sponge was reduced in comparison with control. A progressive increase in cell influx and collagen deposition was observed in control and propolis-treated groups during the whole period. However, these effects were attenuated in the propolis-treated group at Days 4 and 7, indicating that key factors of the wound healing process are modulated by propolis constituents.

Background: In the wound healing process there are a variety of processes, including the most important are fibroplasia process that has a very important role in the wound healing process. Red ginger (Zingiber officinale) contains active ingredients include a mixture of components of essential oils and resins that oleoresin which has anti-inflammatory effects. The aim is determine the effect of red ginger extract against the number of fibroblasts in healing ulcers on the oral mucosa white male rats (Rattus norvegicus)Method: Samples using 24 male rats 2-3 months of age and body weight of 120-200 grams. Mandibular labial mucosa injured mice using H2O2 solution for 2x1 days. The samples were divided into 4 groups, where each group each of 4individuals: group 1 without any treatment, group 2 was treated application ginger gel extract 4%, group 3 was given treatment application ginger gel extract 8% and group 4 treated with applications aloclair gel. On the fourth day after the injury,the rats were decapitated, then do making preparations for histology to count the number of fibroblast cells.Result: The results Oneway ANOVA p value <0.05 and post Hoc Test LSD p value <0.05 which means that the extract of red ginger significantly affects the number of fibroblast cells and between groups have significant differencesConclusion: Extract red ginger gel is effective against the number of fibroblasts in healing ulcers on the oral mucosa white male rats.
