Teaching subject of English is a compulsory. English as a subject in school immediately improved all four of the abilities. The four abilities are: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of students of 7th Grade in SMPN 1 Jabon Sidoarjo, especially at 7 E Class, who cannot reach minimum passing grade (KKM) caused by some lack in English lesson, specifically in writing ability of Descriptive text. Common obstacles students are facing are for example: Students cannot create their writing concept of descriptive about people, thing, places, and animals. This study attempted to answer the following research question (1) is there any significant effect of mind mapping technique on students’ writing of descriptive text at seventh grade of SMPN 1 Jabon Sidoarjo. In carrying this research, the researcher formulated the objectives of the study as follows: To find out the effect of mind mapping technique on students’ writing of descriptive text at 7th grade of SMPN 1 Jabon Sidoarjo. Research method: The research design is pre-experimental research with quantitative approach, The population of this research were all students of 7E SMPN 1 Jabon Sidoarjo, The sample was seventh E class consisting of 32 students, The research instrument used in this research was test and the data collected through test was analyzed using T-test formula. The result showed that different of mean score of students’ writing before being taught using mind mapping technique was 57. Meanwhile, the mean score of students’ writing after being taught using mind mapping technique was 86,59. The finding showed that the mind mapping technique was effective to use in teaching writing descriptive text for it could improve students’ writing ability. This research has benefit in English Education study, especially for further research to enrich the resource

This study concerns with improvement of students’ achievement in writing recount text through mind mapping technique in Junior High School. The subject of the study was the students in SMP Free Methodist 1 Medan, class VIII-1 which consisted of 37 students. This study was conducted by applying Classroom Action Research. The procedure of this research was done in two cycles in six meeting. The mean of students’ score in test I was 67.24. It was increased in test II to 72.78 and in test III, it became 78.79. The improvement was not only showed in the mean of the students’ score but also in the number of students who got point up to 75. In test I, the number of students who got point up to 75 was only 5.4%. In test II, the number was increased to 29.8% while in test III it became 81.1%. Based on the diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that the students gave good responds in the teaching and learning process. Based on the result of quantitative and qualitative data, it can be concluded that the application of mind mapping technique had improved the junior high school students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Writing, Recount Text, Mind Mapping, Junior High School

The purpose of the research is to find out the students’ ability in writing, especially writing recount text by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. In the classroom students set up their Cellphone to write and discuss a recount text. The research question is “Is there any significant effect on students writing recount text by using face book as medium for discussion on Senior High School students?” In the preliminary study it was found that the students’ writing ability was low. Hence, the writer is interested in trying to solve the students’ problem by using Facebook as a medium of discussion. The design of this research was an experimental research. The sample for this research consisted of 25 students. The result of this research found that Facebook as medium for discussion significantly affect the students writing ability. Teaching writing is one skill that is taught by English teacher in school. It became important skill that student have to master writing skill. The researcher chooses Descriptive Text, because it is one of type text to describe something such as place, animal, people and things. The researcher use social media of “Instagram” to teach student in writing descriptive text to improve students writing ability. The researcher use experimental research in quantitative method which two classes as experimental and control group. The sample of the data is taken from Barunawati Junior High School students.  The researcher use snowball sampling. The result has been calculated by using SPSS 20.0. The result showed that teaching writing descriptive text using social media“Instagram” to improve students writing ability is effective.

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of learning techniques and self confidence of students' speaking skills in Indonesian discussion. This research was conducted on the students of the 107th class of the 17th National Senior High School Palembang in 2017 by using factorial experimental design technique 2 x 2. Type of research conducted is experiment technique analysis which was used Analysis of variance (ANAVA) two ways at level of significance 0,05.The results of this study indicated that mind mapping techniques were more effective than problem-based learning techniques, and then there was an interaction effect betweenStudents' speaking skill in Indonesian discussions by using mind mapping technique and students learning by using problem-based techniques, probability values ​​M_learning (0.795) Ë‚0.05. The mean value of learning with mind mapping technique is greater than the average value of learning with problem-based technique (84.89) Ë‚ (80.89).

This study aims to analyze whether the application of Group Investigation (GI) learning model Based on Mind Mapping media can improve   creativities of the student of SMP Wisata Sanur.  The research type is Pre-Exprimental Design with One-group Pretest-Postest Designs research design conducted at SMP Wisata Sanur from April to May. Data collection using creativity assessment rubrics with 7 aspects. The result showed that there was an increase of creativity score from 75,3 to 169,2 with significance level of each aspect of creativity, ie Design aspect (p = 0,017), Color (p = 0,017), Idea and Context (p = 0,017), Kata Key (p = 0.018), Combining ideas (p = 0.018), Hierarchy Level (p = 0.017), Presentation Concept (p = 0.017). Based on the data obtained after being tested with Wilcoxon Match Pairs there was a significant difference (p = 0,018> 0,05) on student creativity in making Mind Mapping before and after apply the learning model. The conclusion of this research is the application of cooperative learning model of Group Investigation based on Mind Mapping has an effect on to the creativity of junior high school students of Sanur Tourism. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis apakah penerapan model pembelajaran Group Investigation (GI) Berbasis media Mind Mapping dapat meningkatkan kreativitas siswa SMP Kerta Wisata Sanur. Jenis penelitian adalah Pre-Exprimental Design dengan rancangan penelitian One-group Pretest-Postest Designs yang dilaksanakan di SMP Wisata Sanur . Data didapatkan menggunakan rubrik penilaian kreativitas dengan 7 aspek. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan jumlah skor kreativitas dari 75,3 menjadi 169,2 dengan taraf signifikansi masing-masing aspek kreativitas yaitu aspek Rancangan (p=0,017), Warna (p=0,017), Ide dan Konteks (p=0,017), Kata Kunci (p=0,018), Menggabungkan ide-ide (p=0,018), Tingkat Hirarki (p=0,017), Konsep Presentasi (p=0,017).  Hasil uji dengan Wilcoxon Match Pairs terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p= 0,018 > 0,05) pada kreativitas siswa dalam membuat Mind Mapping sebelum dan sesudah menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif  tipe Group Investigation. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif  tipe Group Investigation berbasis Mind Mapping  mampu meningkatkan kreativitas siswa SMP Wisata Sanur.    Kata kunci : Group Investigation, Kreativitas, Mind Mapping

<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> Language transfer always becomes an interesting topic to discuss in SLA. From the two types of language transfer take place in the process of language learning, this research aims to investigate the positive transfer occurs in junior high school students’ writing skill. The two languages to be involved in this research, Indonesian as L1 and English as L2. The analysis of the positive transfer within writing skill in this research is carried out under the theory of ‘Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis’ proposed by Cummins. Correlational research design is employed to analyze the correlation between the students’ L1 (Indonesian) writing ability and L2 (English) writing ability. The analysis result shows that the positive transfer in students’ writing does not exist. This happens due to the lack of exposure that the students have in practicing L2 (English) writing.</p><strong>Abstrak:<em> </em></strong>Transfer bahasa selalu menjadi topik yang menarik untuk dibicarakan dalam pemerolehan bahasa kedua. Dari dua jenis transfer bahasa yang terjadi dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi transfer positif yang terjadi dalam keterampilan menulis siswa SMP. Ada dua bahasa yang dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu bahasa bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris. Analisis transfer positif dalam keterampilan menulis pada penelitian ini mengacu pada teori ‘<em>Linguistic Interdependence Hypothesis</em>’ yang digagas oleh Cummins. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode korelasional untuk menganalisis korelasi kemampuan menulis siswa dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada transfer positif yang terjadi dalam tulisan siswa. Hal ini terjadi karena kurangnya pajanan yang diterima siswa untuk mengasah keterampilan menulis dalam bahasa Inggris.

The problems of writing are found at MTs Almuna Samarinda; the students are reluctant to write English, they are difficult to express their ideas and thought to the paragraph writing, they made many grammatical mistakes in their writing, and they are also lack of vocabulary in their writing so that it made their writing monoton. This is a classroom action research which aimed at improving the students’ writing ability of madrasah students. The setting of the research is the second grade students of MTs Almuna Samarinda. The instruments of the study are observation and writing test. The result of study shows that Guided writing can overcome the problems in the teaching of writing found at MTs Almuna Samarinda. It was found that in preliminary study, there were 14 students (50%) who achieved minimum passing grade and there were 14 students (50%) of the students who did not pass the minimum passing grade, the highest score was 80 and the lowest score was 50. In Cycle 1, there were 18 students (64%) who achieved minimum passing grade and there were 10 students (36%) of the students who did not pass the minimum passing grade, the highest score was 80 and the lowest score was 55. This cycle was not successful because it did not reach the criteria of success, 70. In Cycle 2, there were 22 students (79%) who achieved minimum passing grade and there were 6 students (21%) of the students who did not pass the minimum passing grade, the highest score was 90 and the lowest score was 60. This cycle was successful because it reached the criteria of success
