The length-weight relationship of Asian seabass Lates calcarifer (Bloch, 1790) reared in net cage hapa was studied for a period of 45 days. A total of 22,500 nos. of seabass fry (mean length 1.76 ± 0.39 cm; mean weight 0.132 ± 0.10 g) were stocked in fifteen hapas @ 1500 nos. per hapa (2x1x1m) and fed twice daily with farm made feed @ 10% of the body weight initially and reduced to 8% later on. Sampling was done at an interval of 15 days to assess the growth, survival, cannibalism and performance. On termination of the experiment, survival was 25%. Cannibalism contributed 11–51% to the total mortality. K value >1 indicated healthy condition of fish. During the entire culture period, growth was negatively allometric (b<3). Growth showed an increasing trend from 150.5±13.4 to 732.6±7.7. The study concludes that the hapa system is one of the best option for carrying out the nursery rearing of seabass.

Diet analysis revealed that Apocryptes bato is a carnivorous fish. It depends on shrimps and non-shrimp crustaceans mainly. Shrimps include Acetes, penaeid and metapenaeid juveniles, whereas non-shrimp crustaceans include copepods, crab larvae, mysids and amphipods predominantly. The total body lengths (TL) varied between 11.20 and 22.20 cm and weight 16.70 to 43.50 g in male fish. The form of the equation for TL and weight relationship was W = 0.44TL2.57 and for standard length (SL) it was W = 1.009SL2.66. Condition factor (K) ranged from 0.87 to 1.23. The TL was 15.00 to 26.00 cm and weight as 25.1 to 38.50 g in female. The equation was W = 1.001TL2.52 for TL and W = 1.003SL2.63 for SL and K value ranged from 0.95 to 1.106. The length-weight relationship of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer Bloch, Centropomidae) was estimated for the first time based on a wild population; specimens were collected from Pichavaram mangrove waters during October 2003 to September 2004. A highly significant correlation between length and weight, as a relative condition changing in the course of the year, were particularly observed. These data will be certainly useful for the Asian seabass aquaculture development and fisheries.

The study was carried out to determine length-weight relationship and sex ratio of a freshwater fish Amblypharyngodon mola (Hamilton 1822) collected from Dekar haor of Sunamganj district during the period of January to August 2017. A total of 2000 fishes were collected for the study and categorized these fishes into three groups namely males, females and combined sexes. Among 2000 mola 777 were male and 1223 were female. Length-weight equations and the correlation coefficients obtained for males, females and combined ones were: males Y = –1.97 + 3.00X, r = 0.883; females Y = –2.30 + 3.41X, r = 0.914 and combined Y = –2.11 + 3.16X, r = 0.904. Female’s A. mola attained more weight with the increases in length. Value of correlation coefficient ‘r’ was 0.883 for male and exhibited highly positive correlation between length and weight. On the contrary, ‘r’ value for female was 0.914 and it had also strongly positive correlation between length and weight relationships. Length-weight relationship of A. mola for male, female and combined sexes showed allometric pattern of growth. Condition factor ‘K’ for male, female and combined sexes was 1.09, 1.05 and 1.06, respectively and indicated better condition of fishes. The highest sex ratio (1 : 2.05) was found in May and the lowest (1 : 1.33) was in February. Dominance of females over males throughout the year was observed with an average ratio of male and female 1 : 1.57. Therefore, results of the study indicate that the existing hydrobiological conditions of the haor are conducive for food availability, free movement, feeding and better growth of the fish. Asiat. The present work reports the length–weight relationships (LWR) and condition factor and of Cirrhinus cirrhosus inhabiting in River Indus, Sindh-Pakistan. The Length-weight relationship is an important tool for fishery management. A total of 340 specimens (individual) of length–weight were measured. A maximum length of the groups was observed 20.7cm and minimum as 9.4cm. The maximum weight was recorded about 84gm and minimum as 6gm. The estimated values of length-weight relationship and condition factor were calculated by formula LeCren (1951), as Kn=0.547, and Fulton as K=0.724. Length-weight was found with a strong correlation of n= 3.101, C=0.0176 with r2=0.894. The results of this work would be beneficial for sustainable management as well as fishery managers.

Bilih (Mystacoleucus padangensis) is an endemic species of Lake Singkarak and has important economic value. Overfishing of Bilih fish using non-selective fishing gear has led to a decline in its population. High demand, resulting in decreased production and size of Bilih fish. This research aims to determine this endemic fish's length-weight relationship and condition factor as basic data to the effort conservation. The fish was captured with experimental gillnet mesh sized 5/8, ¾, and 1 inch in Sumani, Batu Taba, Paninggahan, and PLTA intake stations. The total length and the weight of Bilih fish ranged from 40 – 95 mm and 10 – 74 mg, respectively. The highest length and weight of Bilih were 80.3 mm, and 45.0 mg were found at the Sumani station. The growth pattern of male and female fish was a negative allometric characteristic. The length-weight relationship of male and female fish was W = 0.00137 L2.368 and W = 0.00179 L2.312, respectively. Condition factors of males and females are 1.02 and 1.004, respectively. The result of condition factor value for males is higher than the female. The water quality values are within the normal range that supports fish life.

Twenty specimens of triploid with weight and length ranging from 207-300g and 29-32cm; diploid 150-200g and 23-28cm Heterobranchus bidorsalis (Geoffroy St. Hilaire 1809) were subjected to morphometric and meristic characterization, length-weight relationship and condition factor evaluation. Triploid specimens had the higher values in all the parameters examined and were significantly different (P<0.005). Regression analysis of diploid and triploid show the ranges of values (K) of 0.802 1.453 and 0.838 0.906 respectively, for condition factor (k) while the relative condition factor values (Kn) ranged between 0.869 1.087 and 0.968 1.038 respectively. Weight increases directly as the total length increases for both diploid and triploid indicating isometric growth. The R2 in triploid was higher (96.8%) than in diploids (42.4%). In diploid progenies, the length by weight was significantly different (P<0.05) in triploid. Triploid progenies need no special adaptive environment or technique for rearing. Therefore, diploid and triploid progenies can be successfully cultured simultaneously under the same environmental condition.

The population structure and dynamics of Leporinus acutidens (Valenciennes, 1837), upstream from Yacyretá Dam (Upper Paraná River, Argentina) were analyzed for their relation to age, condition factor, growth, mortality and fishery yield. The pre- (1990-94) and post- (1995-98) filling phases of the reservoir were compared with regard to age structure, condition factor, and the length/weight relationship of fish. Fish sampling was carried out at four sampling sites following a longitudinal gradient along the river. The catches took place monthly using eight monofilament gillnets (mesh 40 to 160 mm). The growth marks on the scales were annual (9-year maximum). The study of the variation in the monthly averages of the scale marginal increments revealed that the period of the growth ring formation shifted from winter to spring in the post-filling phase. The length/weight relationship coefficient (b) was higher after dam closing. The condition factor increased before the reproduction period and during late summer, reaching maximum values in the post-filling phase, and especially at the sampling site placed within the reservoir region. The von Bertalanffy growth coefficient k for both sexes was 0.16, and the asymptotic length L" reached 338 mm. Natural mortality during the whole study period, according to Pauly's equation, was 0.25 years -1 and total mortality was 0.37 years -1. The Beverton-Holt yield per recruit (Y/R) model attained 57.23 g, with a maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of 70.75 g. Low total mortality was associated with the lack of commercial exploitation of the species.

A study was carried out on the size distribution, length-weight relationship and condition factor of a deep-water population of the commercially important tropical sea cucumber Holothuria scabra in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Samples were collected from fishers and supplementary information gathered. The deep water (15-20 m) population of H. scabra is dominated by large sized individuals that have already attained maturity. There was no significant difference in size between male and female individuals (p>0.05). The sex ratio in this population significantly differed from 1:1 in favour of male individuals (p=0.01). The results showed significant correlation between length and weight for male, female, indeterminate individuals, and pooled data, with r values of 0.681, 0.794, 0.821 and 0.680, respectively. Moreover, the b-value for male, female, indeterminate individuals and pooled data was 1.288, 1.439, 1.686 and 1.407 respectively, which revealed that individuals of deep-water H. scabra exhibit negative allometric growth. The mean condition factor (K) value when all data were pooled together was 4.213±0.106 indicating that individuals were in good condition and came from a healthy environment. This study fills a key information gap that is relevant to the management of the H. scabra fishery in the country.

The size-weight relationship of a species allows for estimating the expected weight based on size. The present contribution aims at evaluating the body weight vs. carapace width relationship and the condition factor of the blue swimming crab Portunus segnis. These characteristics were analyzed for each sex using specimens collected monthly from April 2012 through to March 2013, at the Persian Gulf (Hormozgan Province, Iran). The size of each specimen was measured (carapace width) and weighed (total body wet weight). A total of 302 individuals of P. segnis were analyzed. The body weight-carapace width relationship indicated positive allometric growth in males and isometric growth in females. Body weight was higher in males than females of equivalent carapace width, and the means for condition factors were always higher in females than in males, due to the heavier gonads in the former, an expected pattern for many crabs. In both sexes, the lowest condition factor was detected in winter with an ascending trend in the next seasons. The oscillation in condition factor throughout the sampling year was more prominent in females and related to the reproductive cycle. The information reinforces data to define fishing closed seasons for this portunid that is used in many places in the world.
