Large quantity and high-quality salt are demanded in Indonesia, yet the quality of salt produced by farmers is still low. Increasing salt quantity and quality is possibly done through the implementation of geoisolator technology. This study aimed to investigate factors affecting the decision of salt farmers to adopt geoisolator technology. The study was conducted at the salt production center in Madura Island. A survey on salt farmer was carried out during August-September 2018. A total of 190 respondents consisted of 131 salt farmers who adopted geoisolator technology and 59 traditional salt farmers were selected as a sample in this study. Factors affecting farmer decision to adopt geoisolator technology was analyzed using logit (logistic regression) model. The result of this study showed that the decision of salt farmer to adopt geoisolator technology was affected by the number of productive-age family members and the number of dependent family members, land area, farmer participation in the group, farmer participation in extension. Enhancement in the adoption of geoisolator technology needs synergy between extension agent and salt farmer group so that the mentoring process and knowledge transfer will be achieved.

Colonoscopy is an effective method for screening colorectal cancer and adenoma, but the adenoma detection rate depends on the quality of bowel preparation. Our study investigates the influencing factors of the quality of bowel preparation before colonoscopy in outpatients and the influence of the number of walking steps on the quality of bowel preparation. We prospectively collected the clinical data of 150 outpatients undergoing colonoscopy in our department in 2019. Ordinal logistic regression shows that the overweight, not drinking, the number of walking steps before colonoscopy, and the time interval between start PEG and colonoscopy (4–6 hours) were independent factors affecting bowel preparation quality. There was a curving relationship between the reciprocal of Ottawa score and the number of walking steps before colonoscopy, and the regression equation is 1/ Ottawa score = −0.198 + 0.062 × ln steps ( p = .035), a minimum of 5,270 walking steps before a colonoscopy is required for a high quality of bowel preparation.

The productivity of white pepper plants and the low quality of yields are the main problems that should be corrected in the management of smallholder plantations in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. This study aims to determine the factors affecting farmer participation in implementing GAP, as well as how the GAP was implemented.  The study was conducted in 3 districts namely West Bangka, Central Bangka, and South Bangka as a center of white pepper production. The respondents consisting of 142 farmers who applied GAP and 82 non-GAP farmers. By using the logit model, it is found that older farmers, more educated, have more family members, have larger planting areas and farmers who are more active in participating in GAP socialization will have more chances of deciding to implement GAP. The implementation of white pepper GAP for each component, on average ranged from 67 to 95 percent.

Abstract Potato (Solanum tuberosum L) is one of the horticultural commodities with excellent opportunities for agribusiness and agroindustry development. The use of high-quality seeds and appropriate technology is still far from the reach of farmers. Generally, potato farmers in the Bener Meriah District use potato seeds from the previous production, but some consistently use superior seeds in every cultivation activity. This study analyses the factors that made farmers adopt superior seeds for potatoes in Bener Meriah. Based on the study results, the variables of age, education level, length of farming, land area, and the number of dependents had no significant effect on adopting superior potato seeds in Bener Meriah. At the same time, the variables of access to capital and farmer participation have a significant effect on farmers’ decisions to adopt superior potato seeds in Bener Meriah.

Introduction: The End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is one of the leading causes of mortality in Mexico. The quality of care these patients receive remains uncertain. Methods: This is a descriptive, single-center and cross-sectional cohort study. The KDOQI performance measures, hemoglobin level >11 g/dL, blood pressure <140/90 mmHg, serum albumin >4 g/dL and use of arteriovenous fistula of patients with ESRD on hemodialysis were analyzed in a period of a year. The association between mortality and the KDOQI objectives was evaluated with a logistic regression model. A linear regression model was also performed with the number of readmissions. Results: A total of 124 participants were included. Participants were categorized by the number of measures completed. Fourteen (11.3%) of the participants did not meet any of the goals, 51 (41.1%) met one, 43 (34.7%) met two, 11 (8.9%) met three, and 5 (4%) met the four clinical goals analyzed. A mortality of 11.2% was registered. In the logistic regression model, the number of goals met had an OR for mortality of 1.1 (95% CI 0.5-2.8). In the linear regression model, for the number of readmissions, a beta correlation with the number of KDOQI goals met was 0.246 (95% CI -0.872-1.365). Conclusion: The attainment of clinical goals and the mortality rate in our center is similar to that reported in the world literature. Our study did not find a significant association between compliance with clinical guidelines and mortality or the number of hospital admissions in CKD patients on hemodialysis.

Background. Emergency physicians (EPs) face critical admission decisions, and their judgments are questioned in some developing systems. This study aims to define the factors affecting mortality in patients admitted to the hospital by EPs against in-service departments’ decision and evaluate EPs’ admission diagnosis with final discharge diagnosis. Methods. This is a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data of ten consecutive years (2008–2017) of an emergency department of a university medical center. Adult patients (≥18 years-old) who were admitted to the hospital by EPs against in-service departments’ decision were enrolled in the study. Significant factors affecting mortality were defined by the backward logistic regression model. Results. 369 consecutive patients were studied, and 195 (52.8%) were males. The mean (SD) age was 65.5 (17.3) years. The logistic regression model showed that significant factors affecting mortality were intubation (p<0.0001), low systolic blood pressure (p=0.006), increased age (p=0.013), and having a comorbidity (p=0.024). There was no significant difference between EPs’ primary admission diagnosis and patient’s final primary diagnosis at the time of disposition from the admitted departments (McNemar–Bowker test, p=0.45). 96% of the primary admission diagnoses of EPs were correct. Conclusions. Intubation, low systolic blood pressure on presentation, increased age, and having a comorbidity increased the mortality. EPs admission diagnoses were highly correlated with the final diagnosis. EPs make difficult admission decisions with high accuracy, if needed.

Abstract The nature of urban and rural accidents has been different from each other in some of the factors and even the severity of damage rate, mayhem, and death. In this research, using statistical methods and binary logistic regression model, we have addressed to analyze important parameters such as age, gender, education level, the color of the pedestrian dress, season of accident, time of accident, the speed of the vehicle colliding with pedestrians and road surface conditions at the time of accident on the way of death (at the scene of the incident or in the hospital) pedestrians who have been traumatized. After the creation of the binary logistic regression model, it was determined that only the parameters of speed and the accident time have been significant in the level less than 5%. And other parameters such as age, gender, the season of accident occurrence, the color of the pedestrian dress, road surface conditions and education level had no significant effect in terms of statistical on the incidence of mortality arising from a pedestrian accident with the motor vehicle. The results revealed that by adopting decisions related to the traffic calming, attention to passages lighting and brightness the mortality rate of a pedestrian due to the urban accidents can be reduced.

This study was initiated to evaluate the effects of agri-environment program implemented in the Sultan reeds area of Kayseri province, Turkey. The specific objectives of the study were to compare the farmers who enrolled in the program with those who didn’t enroll regarding their application of different sustainable agricultural practices, and to determine factors affecting their enrolment in the program. The main comparative indicators were selected from different sustainable agricultural practices either promoted by the agri-environmental program or not promoted but considered very useful for the locality. Two stratified samples of farmers (enrolled and not enrolled) were selected based on their farm size. Chi-square tests of independence were used to compare farmers on the selected sustainable agricultural practices. Logistic regression model was used to determine factors affecting the enrolment of the agri-environment program. The findings of the chi-square test showed that enrolled farmers use grow more forage legumes, are more conscious about pesticides use and chemical applications, and they use more pressurized irrigation systems. Findings of the logistic regression model sowed that using rental land negatively, but contacts with extension personnel, and using long term loans for farming investments positively influenced the enrolment of the agri-environment program. Governmental effort must concentrate on these issues when promoting agri-environmental programs in the region.
