Abstract Background A citation classic is a highly cited work in a field and regarded as an influential contribution to the field’s advancements and literature. Analyzing citation classics and top articles promotes the recognition of research trends within a field. We present the results of the first analysis to identify the 100 most frequently cited research studies on esophageal cancer or esophagogastric junction cancer using the bibliometric analysis method. Method We searched the Web of Science on September 24, 2020. Articles were listed in descending order by the total number of citations, and the top-100 most-cited original articles on esophageal cancer or esophagogastric junction cancer were extracted and evaluated. Results The top-100 citation classics in esophageal cancer were published from 1981 to 2018. A significant increase was found in the number of citation classics from the early 1990s to the late 2000s, which was paralleled by an increase in randomized controlled trials focusing on the clinical treatment of tumors. The medians of the total and annual citations in our analysis were 444.50 (interquartile range [IQR] 346.25-684.50) and 30.08 (IQR 19.10-56.60), respectively. The majority of articles were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (n=26), originated in the United States (n=38) and focused on clinical therapies (n=59). The median impact factor of the journals was 27.603 (IQR 9.727-32.956). Conclusion Our analysis provides a historical perspective on the scientific progress of esophageal cancer and contributes to the recognition of important advances in this specialty.

Aim: Despite a vast array of research in heart failure (HF), no bibliometric analysis has been conducted for HF. Therefore, we sought to identify in-depth characteristics of 100 most cited publications in HF. Materials & methods: Two independent reviewers searched the Scopus Library Database using a variety of keywords to extract the top 100 articles. Results: Majority (36%) of top 100 cited articles were published between 2001 and 2005. The total number of citations ranged from 6294 to 1003. Females had less than a quarter representation in both first and senior author position. More than three-fourths (86%) of the articles were funded. Conclusion: Our analysis highlights focal areas of research activity in order to guide HF specialists toward impactful research areas.

Background: Citation analysis reflects the scientific recognition and influential performance of a published article within its field. We aim to identify the top 100 most-cited articles on astrocytoma using this bibliometric analysis method. Methods: In May 2020, we performed a thorough search in the Scopus database using the word “Astrocytoma.” The top 100 most-cited articles were arranged based on citation count in descending order. The resultant articles were then analyzed with an assessment of pertinent factors. Results: The most-cited articles on astrocytoma had been cited 23,720 times. The top-cited article received a total of 682 citations, with an average of 34.1 citations annually. The list comprised eight clinical trials, in which the highest cited article received 625 citations. Articles were published from 1975 to 2015 with the 1995–2005 era as the most prolific period. Neuropathology studies were the most studied category, followed by clinical studies. The United States of America was the most significant contributor, with 49 published articles. The University of California San Francisco was the most contributing institution by producing 11 articles. Articles were published in 32 different journals led by the Cancer Research Journal, with a total of 12 publications. Approximately 160 authors contributed to the list in which Scheithauer, B.W. contributed the most with a total of eight articles. Conclusion: This report clustered the most impactful articles on astrocytoma. It serves as an adequate tool to identify publication trends and helps in achieving evidence-based clinical practice.

The article presents the results of the publications' analysis on the issue of sensory marketing. The study was conducted using bibliometric analysis, and the visualization method was used to visualize the results. In total, to achieve the goal of this study, 182 publications (articles) from the Scopus database for the period from 2004 to 2020 were processed. The search in the Scopus database was performed in the field "title, abstract, keywords". Visualization of the results was performed using VOSviewer programs. The analysis provides the following results. First, the study found that the problem of sensory marketing is quite new and in development. The total number of publications in the field of sensory marketing, as well as the number of citations, is gradually increasing since 2011. The peak of publishing activity was in 2020. Second, one-third of publications are related to such areas of knowledge as business, management, and accounting, while 10% of publications are related to economics, econometrics, and finance, and 10% of publications are related to psychological sciences. Third, scientists from different institutions, countries, and continents work on the issue of sensory marketing. The scientific cooperation becomes deeper. It contributes to the creation of geographical clusters. The three largest clusters are formed around the United States, Great Britain, and France. Fourth, six articles were cited more than 100 times. It indicates their high scientific level. Fifth, the main "critical" areas of research on sensory marketing include sensory marketing, marketing, consumer behavior, color, and music. Around these keywords powerful scientific clusters are formed. Moreover, the research topic of sensory marketing was significantly deepened, moving from the analysis of the relationship between sensory marketing and consumer behavior in articles published before 2015, to a comprehensive approach of the sensory marketing tools use, their impact on product sprinting, storage, etc., starting in 2019 p. The obtained results of the analysis and their graphical interpretation are relevant and form the basis for a better understanding of the issues of sensory marketing. They can help to find the gaps and offer useful guidance for further researches.

Abstract BackgroundCrosstalk between the gut microbiota and the host immune system is related to multiple diseases, and in recent years, this crosstalk has gradually become a research hotspot. Because the research involves many diseases, the mechanisms are extremely complicated, so both the screening out of the high-quality articles from the massive amount of literature and the in-depth interpretation of their data are helpful in guiding the direction of research.MethodsIn this study, the top 100 most highly cited original articles were obtained from a total of 43,858 papers. According to the number of citations in the Web of Science database, the results are sorted in descending order. One may download the data obtained by Web of Science into tab-delimited (Win) format and import it into VOSviewer (Leiden University, Leiden, Netherlands) for subsequent bibliometric analysis. We summarized the country, institution, journal, author and other indicators for all publications. Through the online bibliometric platform, we analyzed the publication volume and growth trends for different countries/regions. VOSviewer was used to classify keywords into different clusters based on co-occurrence analysis and color them according to the time course. ResultsThe number of citations for each article ranged from 914 to 5,460, and the most cited manuscript was written by PJ Turnbaugh and RE Ley. Washington University, the University of Colorado and Harvard University performed well in terms of the quality and quantity of publications. Manuscripts in NATURE, PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and SCIENCE were the most influential. In addition, we identified six clusters of hotspots in the field of gut microbiota and immunity research.ConclusionsObesity and diabetes are the diseases most related to the gut microbiota, and their pathogenesis may be associated with a change in intestinal wall permeability and an imbalance of Bacteroides and Firmicutes. The balance of energy metabolism plays a key role in the crosstalk between host immunity and intestinal microbiota.

BackgroundCraniopharyngioma (CP) is a challenging intracranial tumor due to its special hypothalamus-pituitary location. Each patient with CP should be evaluated and treated separately. Exploring novel methods of automatized analysis of data for gaining knowledge on any medical field is an encouraging task, particularly in such an extremely challenging tumor as CP. We aim to summary the situations, investigate the research trends and evaluate research hotspots using bibliometric analysis for the CP research.MethodsWe extracted all the CP-related literatures from 2011 to 2020 from the Web of Science database. An Online analysis platform of literature metrology (Bibliometric), BICOMB, gCLUTO and CiteSpace softwares were used to do bibliometric analysis. As a supplement, we also analyzed the top 100 cited case reports with particular and certainly infrequent information to improve the analysis.ResultsAccording to our retrieval strategy, we found a total of 1262 CP-related literatures. The United States has maintained a leading position in global CP research, followed by China and Germany. Among institutions, Capital Med Univ, St Jude Childrens Res Hosp and Southern Med Univ rank in the top 3 in terms of the number of articles published. “WORLD NEUROSURGERY” is the most popular journal for CP-related research. Moreover, MULLER HL, MERCHANT TE, QI ST and others have made great achievements in the study of CP. Finally, we did biclustering analysis on keywords and identified 4 CP research hotspot clusters.ConclusionsOur research provides a comprehensive analysis of the scientific progress of CP in the past 10 years, and insight into the development of CP research field, highlight research trends over time, and help identify valuable future directions.

Bibliometric analysis is a popular method for exploring and analyzing large amounts of scientific data. This article is a bibliometric analysis using Scopus indexed journals on program coordination using VOSviewer application. The purpose of bibliometric analysis in this research is to identify the development of studies related to program coordination. Specifically, this article discusses citation developments, publications trends, authors’ collaboration, trending term titles, trend term author keywords, trend term abstracts, and country statistics with the topic of program coordination 1943-2021. The data was collected from Scopus database using keyword “coordination program.” Furthermore, the author uses VOSviewer software to analyze and visualize the database obtained. The results showed that the results of the citation analysis showed the number of citations per year from 1943-2021 was 4.304 citations. Irvine, M.K is a researcher who has the largest productivity, which is ten publications. In the analysis of the trend term author keywords, it can be seen that there are 676 author keys used in selected articles using a minimum of five events, resulting nine author keywords that have a strong connection. The term “care coordination” is the term most frequently used by the author with 23 entries. Moreover, the country that published the most program coordination articles was the United States with 246 articles.

Objectives. The bibliometric analysis uses the citation count of an article to measure its impact in the scientific community, yet there is still no comprehensive summary of gastric disease researches via bibliometric analysis. We aimed to evaluate the situations and trends of the most cited articles in gastric disease via bibliometric analysis and to provide physicians a practical guide in assessing the most influential articles written on this subject. Methods. The 100 top-cited articles in gastric disease were compiled using Web of Science. The articles selected were evaluated for their number of citations, year of publication, country of origin, type of study, and others. Results. The database had 484,281 articles published between 1965 and 2019. The most cited article received 4,017 citations and the least received 604, with a mean of 1,149 citations. We classified the articles into seven categories: gastric cancer (n=53), Helicobacter pylori (n=17), ulcer (n=7), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (n=6), gastritis (n=5), gastric bypass surgery (n=2), and others (n=10). Altogether, 69 of the articles were from the USA (n=41), the UK (n=17), and Japan (n=11). Among all the institutions, Royal Perth Hospital led the list with 5 articles. One-quarter of authors owned three or more of these top-cited articles. The 100 papers were published in 33 journals, and most of them were clinical researches (n=47). Conclusions. Our study provides a historical perspective for the scientific progress of gastric disease, and the articles of significant findings that contributed great impact on the prevention and treatment of gastric disease had been identified.

PurposeManagerial finance (MF) started publication in 1975 and celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2019. The purpose of this study is to provide a bibliometric analysis of MF between 1996 and 2019.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses the Scopus database to analyze the most frequent authors in MF along with their affiliated institutions and countries. It also identifies the most often cited MF articles. This study uses bibliometric indicators to analyze productivity and stature of MF. It also uses such tools as bibliographic coupling, keyword analysis and coauthorship analysis to analyze MF. Further, the study provides a temporal analysis of MF publishing across different ownership periods.FindingsMF publishes between 60 and 70 articles each year and its number of citations steadily grows. Although contributors to the journal come from around the globe, they most often are affiliated with the United States, the United Kingdom and Greece. Temporal analysis of journal's themes reveals that it has expanded its scope from accounting research to a much wider array of finance topics. Bibliographic coupling network analysis shows that major themes published in MF involve stock markets, corporate governance, banking, financial decision-making and initial public offerings.Research limitations/implicationsDue to the unavailability of bibliometric data, the analysis excludes an analysis of MF between 1975 and 1995.Originality/valueThis study provides the first overview of the MF's publication and citation trends as well as its thematic structure. It also suggests future directions that the journal might take.

Obesity represents a major global public health problem. In the past few decades the prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide. In 2016, an estimated 1.9 billion adults were overweight; of these more than 650 million were obese. There is an urgent need for potential solutions and deeper understanding of the risk factors responsible for obesity. A bibliometric analysis study was designed to provide a comprehensive overview of top 100 most cited studies on obesity indexed in Web of Science database. The online search was conducted on June 6, 2021 using the keywords “Obesity” OR “Obese” OR “Overweight” in title filed with no limitations on document types or languages. The top 100 cited studies were selected in descending order based on number of citations. The obtained data were imported in to Microsoft Excel 2019 to extract the basic information such as title, authors name, journal name, year of publication and total citations. In addition, the data were also imported in to HistCite™ for further citation analysis, and VOSviewer software for windows to plot the data for network visualization mapping. The initial search retrieved a total of 167,553 documents on obesity. Of the total retrieved documents, only top 100 most cited studies on obesity were included for further analysis. These studies were published from 1982 to 2017 in English language. Most of the studies were published as an article (n = 84). The highly cited study on obesity was “Establishing a standard definition for child overweight and obesity worldwide: international survey” published in BMJ-British Medical Journal (Impact Factor 39.890, Incites Journal Citation Reports, 2021) in 2000 cited 10,543 times. The average number of citations per study was 2,947.22 (ranging from 1,566 to 10,543 citations). Two studies had more than 10,000 citations. A total of 2,272 authors from 111 countries were involved. The most prolific author was Flegal KM authored 14 studies with 53,558 citations. The highly active country in obesity research was United States of America. The included studies were published in 33 journals. The most attractive journal was JAMA-Journal of the American Medical Association (Impact Factor 56.272) published 17 studies and cited globally 51,853 times. The most frequently used keywords were obesity (n = 87) and overweight (n = 22). The countries with highest total link strength was United States of America (n = 155), followed by England (n = 140), and Scotland (n = 130). Our results show that most number of highly cited studies were published in developed countries. The findings of this study can serve as a standard benchmark for researchers to provide the quality bibliographic references and insights into the future research trends and scientific cooperation in obesity research.

Abstract The purpose of this research is to assess the universal scientific trends and examine the patterns in the intellectual research published on trade liberalization over a period of 35 years (1980-2015). The data were collected from a leading indexing and abstracting database Thomson Reuters Web of Science. The Kruskal-Walis test, ANOVA and Pearson’s correlation were employed in analyzing the retrieved data. Based on the citation trend of first 100 highly cited published articles with the least number of authors are found to have received the highest number of citations. Our result shows that there is actual statistical significance (p˂ 0.001) between the total citations attracted by articles published by 1 author and those published by 3 and 4 authors. The word trade liberalization has become dominant and consistent in the field of the study. These research trend and interest could provide focus to researchers for future research.
