Various agencies have begun to research and introduce performance-related specifications (PRS) for the design of modern asphalt paving mixtures. The focus of most recent studies has been directed toward simplified cracking test development and evaluation. In some cases, development and validation of PRS has been performed, building on these new tests, often by comparison of test values to accelerated pavement test studies and/or to limited field data. This study describes the findings of a comprehensive research project conducted at Illinois Tollway, leading to a PRS for the design of mainline and shoulder asphalt mixtures. A novel approach was developed, involving the systematic establishment of specification requirements based on: 1) selection of baseline values based on minimally acceptable field performance thresholds; 2) elevation of thresholds to account for differences between short-term lab aging and expected long-term field aging; 3) further elevation of thresholds to account for variability in lab testing, plus variability in the testing of field cores; and 4) final adjustment and rounding of thresholds based on a consensus process. After a thorough evaluation of different candidate cracking tests in the course of the project, the Disk-shaped Compact Tension—DC(T)—test was chosen to be retained in the Illinois Tollway PRS and to be presented in this study for the design of crack-resistant mixtures. The DC(T) test was selected because of its high degree of correlation with field results and its excellent repeatability. Tailored Hamburg rut depth and stripping inflection point thresholds were also established for mainline and shoulder mixes.

AbstractIn 2016, the WHO included haemoglobin values within normal ranges as a diagnostic criterion for Polycythaemia Vera (PV). Since then, concerns have arisen that a large number of patients are undergoing unnecessary screening for PV. To address this issue, we estimated the prevalence of JAK2 p.V617F in individuals with elevated haemoglobin or haematocrit and developed and validated a screening algorithm for PV. A total of 15,366 blood counts performed in seven non-consecutive days were reviewed, of which 1001 were selected for subsequent JAK2 p.V617F mutation screening. Eight (0.8%) new JAK2 p.V617F-mutated cases were detected. From ROC curves, a two-step algorithm was developed based on the optimal cut-off for the detection of the JAK2 p.V617F mutation. The algorithm was prospectively validated in an independent cohort of 15,298 blood counts. A total of 1595 (10.4%) cases met the criterion for haemoglobin or haematocrit, of whom 581 passed to step 2 (3.8% of the total). The JAK2 p.V617F mutation was detected in 7 of the 501 patients tested, which accounts for 0.04% of the total cohort and 0.4% of patients with erythrocytosis. In conclusion, this data show that our two-step algorithm improves the selection of candidates for JAK2 p.V617F testing.

Objectives: to develop a novel religious orientation scale based on the Quran and validate it with pre-university students of secondary education Method: All the Quranic ayat which addressed its believers directly regarding their religious orientation were scrutinized in terms of pre-university students’ characteristics, resulting in the selection of 57 upon which a 60-item Quranic Orientation Scale (QOS) was developed. The scale was administered to 1123 students and their responses were subjected to Principal Axis Factoring and Promax with Kaiser Normalization (PKN). Results: Out of 60 items comprising the QOS, 48 loaded acceptably and exclusively on seven rotated factors called believing in holy scriptures,, remembering and seeking Allah, fulfilling Quranic obligations, following Allah confidently, following Quranic instructions, not befriending disbelievers, and informed Quranic struggle. Both the scale and its underlying factors had internal consistency and correlated significantly with each other. Conclusion: The Quran teaches the domain of religious orientation directly to its readers as a hierarchically and culturally independent schema consisting of specific species and genera. Pre-university student, however, not only reduce the domain as regards the number of its constituting species and genera but also develop their own religious families. Going through this process consciously they render their religious orientation a hierarchically and culturally organized schema.

Special attention is devoted to a job description and job analysis as a basis for identifying the critical attributes and training requirements involved. The development and validation of a battery for the selection of computer systems analysts and students of computer science are discussed.

<b><i>Aims:</i></b> The aim of the current study was to develop and validate a short-form of the internet overuse screening questionnaire (IOS-Qs). <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A total of 571 adults were recruited from a representative, stratified, and multistage cluster sample. Among participants, 188 and 383 were used in the development and validation of the IOS-Qs, respectively. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Experts’ ratings and Rasch model analyses led to the selection of 8 items from the IOS-Qs; latent-class analysis using these 8 items revealed an estimated prevalence of 8.6% (33 out of 383) of problematic internet over-users. Problematic internet over-users were positively associated with a 1-year prevalence rate of any mental disorder (OR 3.08, <i>p</i> = 0.008), mood disorder (OR 7.11, <i>p</i> = 0.003), and depressive disorder (OR 5.22, <i>p</i> = 0.016). The receiver operating characteristic curves identified an optimal cutoff score of 9.5 for differentiating problematic internet over-users from unproblematic internet users with 94% sensitivity and 94% specificity. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> The results suggest that the IOS-Qs was valid, and items including social isolation were crucial to the brief distinction of at-risk internet users. Because of its brevity, the questionnaire can be effectively administered as a large-scale survey.

Sequence analysis of the chromosome region harboring the sequence-tagged site (STS) markers YES3-3A and YES3-3B for Rysto, a gene responsible for extreme resistance to Potato virus Y (PVY) in potato, was performed in tetraploid potato ‘Barbara’ (Rrrr) and ‘AC Chaleur’ (rrrr) as well as their progeny selections. Three and two sequence variants were identified in Barbara resistant (R) selections and AC Chaleur susceptible (S) selections, respectively. Further analysis indicates that the variant with a 21-nucleotide (nt) deletion is likely the chromosome copy harboring the STS markers. Two primer pairs, one targeting the region containing a 20-nt deletion and the other targeting the region anchoring the YES3-3A reverse primer, were designed. As anticipated, pair one produced two visible fragments in Barbara-R bulk and one visible fragment in AC Chaleur-S bulk; pair two produced one visible fragment in all samples. When subjected to high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis, two distinct melting profiles for R and S samples were observed. Analysis of 147 progeny of Barbara × AC Chaleur revealed 72 and 75 progeny with R and S melting profiles, respectively, which was consistent with YES3-3A and YES3-3B assays and phenotyping analysis, thus demonstrating the potential of HRM profiles as novel molecular markers for Rysto. The efficacy of the newly developed HRM markers for high-throughput marker-assisted selection for Rysto-conferred resistance to PVY was validated further with three populations involving Barbara as the R parent.

<em>The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between teaching aptitude and level of aspiration of prospective teachers. Hundred prospective teachers were taken from two teacher training colleges of district Mohali and teaching aptitude test battery by Psy-chom Services and level of Aspiration Scale by Bhargava and Shah were administered on them. It was found that teaching aptitude and its variable are significantly related to level of Aspiration which shows the importance of these variables in the selection of teaching profession.</em>

The creation of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire facilitated many studies on the impact of skin diseases on patients’ quality of life (QoL). Many national and international guidelines recommend QoL assessment in dermatology, and some of them contain detailed recommendations on treatment goals and changes of treatment approaches based on DLQI score banding and minimal clinically important difference. The methodology of QoL in strument development and validation is constantly becoming more rigorous. Initiatives on selection of core outcome sets for skin diseases are focused on clinical trials but may also be beneficial for clinicians. There are various benefits of using QoL information in clinical practice, but experience of this is very limited at the moment. QoL assessment in dermatology is a rapidly developing field with a gradual shift from theory to practice.
