PurposeThis paper aims to develop supply chain strategies for the fashion retail supply chain (FRSC), likely to be disrupted by the current pandemic (COVID-19) under physical and online retail stores. The resilient retail supply chain design is proposed under budget allocation and merchandise capacity constraints.Design/methodology/approachThis paper utilises the theory of constraint (ToC) and goal programming (GP) to address the COVID-19 impact on FRSC. The budgetary and capacity constraints are formulated with a constraint optimisation model and tested with six different priorities to deal with the physical and online stores. Next, all priorities are developed under different FRSC business scenarios. The ToC-GP-based optimisation model is validated with one of the Indian fashion retail supply chains.FindingsThe proposed optimisation model presents the optimal retailing strategies for selling fashion goods over physical and online platforms. The multiple scenarios are presented for developing trade-offs among different strategies to maximise the retailer's merchandise performance. This paper also highlighted the strategic movement from high merchandise density stores to low merchandise density stores. This implies a reduction of sales targets and aspiration levels of both online and physical fashion stores.Research limitations/implicationsThe proposed model is validated with one of the fashion retailers in India. Other nations or multiple fashion retailers might be considered for more generalisation of findings in the future.Practical implicationsThis research helps fashion retail supply chain managers deal with consumer demand uncertainty over physical and online stores in pandemic times. Limitation: Other nations or multiple fashion retailers might be considered for more generalisation of findings in the future.Originality/valueThis is the first study that considered the impact of COVID-19 on the retail fashion supply chain. The effect of physical and online platforms is mainly discussed from consumer marketing perspectives, but an inventory and resilience perspective is missing in earlier studies. The role of merchandise planning is highlighted in this study.

Real estate marketing has changed fundamentally over the past twenty years, mainly due to digital technologies. Due to the availability of online platforms as intermediary websites, the complexity of interaction relationships between providers, demanders, and real estate agents has increased. The study takes the perspective of real estate agents and uses the example market of Cologne/Bergisch-Gladbach to show what new potential digital channels offer for the reach and intensity of real estate marketing. Real estate agencies are challenged to evolve technologically, but then have a wider inventory of marketing channels and presentation options at their disposal. In the future, social media and video streaming platforms could further revolutionize property marketing, offering further potential to proactive providers, especially in terms of property branding and international sales.

Web dramas, which are original serialized dramas that are released primarily on online platforms, are a recent development of digital content in South Korea. As web dramas are intended for mobile viewing environments, this study examines how distribution influenced this emerging form. Particularly, it argues for the consideration of the power of distribution, which does not happen as an afterthought or separate from other areas, but can wield influence on the production, finances, and other business practices of web dramas. Audiences are envisioned as viewing web dramas on the go, so web dramas were only several minutes per episode with simple storylines to maintain the audiences’ attention. The insufficient revenue policy of the existing platforms have led web dramas to seek other alternatives within traditional media structures, where they are positioned primarily as another platform for television industries to explore or rely on the branded entertainment strategy, catering to the business sponsors’ demands. In the recent times, newer platforms and production companies specializing in web dramas have appeared, and this article concludes that there is still the potential for web dramas to independently establish themselves as a new digital form in the future.

This article describes how Blockchain is a technology that has a great potential to change the way business is done in the future, exactly like the internet did in the early nineties. Blockchain offers new opportunities to develop new types of digital services to overcome business problems, and improve business practices by making transaction information a public resource. While research on the topic is still emerging, it has mostly focused on crypto-currencies instead of taking advantage of this novel concept to create new advanced services. This article discusses blockchain and the technology behind it, some of its possible applications, as well as threats targeting the new poorly understood technology.

Globally, health systems face challenges in the delivery of assistive technology (AT) and only 10% of people are currently able to access the assistive products they need. The COVID-19 pandemic presented an uncharted path for AT providers to navigate, placing them under pressure to be agile and rapidly adapt. This article, part of a series, explores the experiences and impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on AT providers and aims to inform how AT providers can be better prepared and supported in the future. A mixed methods approach was used to gather service data and perspectives from AT providers via a survey. A total of 37 responses were received from 18 countries. Service data showed extensive service disruption throughout 2020. Thematic analysis suggested significant changes to routine AT service delivery including rapid momentum towards home-based, decentralised, and digital services for which many AT providers were not prepared. Providers were required to make difficult decisions and deliver services in new ways to balance meeting demands, complying with government restrictions, and ensuring the safety of staff and clients. Few but important positives were expressed including the belief that expanded capacity to use remote and digital AT service delivery would remain useful in the future.

Preparing academically rich collections for access by scholars and students is challenging, costly and time consuming.   Concerns for maintenance, preservation, and access are paramount.  Typical of 20th century archival collections, one is likely to encounter deteriorating and brittle documents, photographic prints and negatives, and obsolete formats such as open reel audio tapes, audio cassettes and video tapes.  More recent collections may also contain computer media; the proliferation of formats and media types impacts the complexity of the work in providing access, as well as the costs. Without sizeable resources, it would take years to process these collections fully, especially those rich with audio and visual materials.  Taking all of this into consideration, the Archives Research Center (ARC) and Digital Services Unit (DSU) of the AUC Woodruff Library decided to investigate options for grant funding to expedite the processing and digitization of these underutilized archival collections.  This essay concerns the pursuit of a Humanities Collections and Reference Resources (HCRR) grants offered by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Envisioning the future is always challenging, and the multi-channel environment is no exception to that rule. The objective of this study was to hypothesize upon the kind of digital services that will likely develop by the year 2020 in a networked, multi-channel business environment. Our starting point was to approach the analysis from a business perspective; in other words, we tried to avoid the typical technology-focused e-business forecasting, which charts the development of new technologies and devices. Instead, we tried to survey for services that would be available across different electronic channels and meet customer needs in the future, as well as what types of businesses would develop around these services. Consequently, this study gives answers to questions like, what will be the future of e-services, who needs and uses them, how will the customer want to buy such services, who will produce e-services and what will the earnings logic be based upon?
