Essential oils of plants with insecticidal properties have been considered as replacements for synthetic chemical pesticides to combat and control insect pests. The chemical composition of the essential oil from dried seeds of Zanthoxylum limonella Alston was determined by the Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometry technique. Insecticidal activity was investigated on Tribolium castaneum Herbst using impregnated filter paper with six concentrations of essential oil at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5% for adults and larvae mortality tests, and 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% for egg mortality. All experiments were performed under completely randomized design (CRD) with four replications at 30±5°C and 70±5% relative humidity in 16:8 hours light/dark cycle. A total of 83 components were identified. The principal compounds in the essential oil of Z. limonella were beta-pinene (19.65%), 9-octadecanone (18.80%), D-limonene (9.76%), alpha-fenchene (8.48%), p-mentha-1,5,8-triene (7.16%), 1,8-cineole (6.88%), gamma-terpinene (5.46%), terpinen-4-ol (3.81%), linalool (2.73%), alpha-thujene (1.34%), decanal (1.32%), alpha-phellandrene (1.20%) and linalyl propionate (1.13%). Insecticidal activity presented that 5% of essential oil had the highest effect against T. castaneum at 120 h for adults and 48 h for larvae, while 10% of essential oil at 14 days obtained 100% mortality against eggs of T. castaneum. Results indicated that the essential oil of Z. limonella from dried seeds showed potential for use in the control of T. castaneum

Chemical pesticides used against insect pests of stored food have adverse effects on both health and the environment. So, the present study aims to evaluate the insect repulsive and insecticidal power of Ruta chalepensis L. essential oil (EO) from the region of Oulmes (Central plateau of Morocco); the ultimate objective is to develop a biological and ecological control strategy against pests. Thus, the EO obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Ruta chalepensis L. was identified by GC-MS; its repellent and fumigant toxicity effects on adults of Tribolium castaneum Herbst were, respectively, investigated by the preferential area method on a filter paper and the inhalation test. The insecticide power was estimated by determining the percentage of mortality as a function of the duration of exposure and concentration of the EO. The essential oil obtained is characterized by the dominance of 2-undecanone (64.35%), piperonyl piperazine (11.9%), 2-decanaone (5.12%), 2-dodecanone (4.52%), decipidone (3.9%,) and 2-tridecanone (2.36%). This EO is endowed with a very repulsive power belonging to class V, which is strongly due to its majority compound 2-undecanone. The dose 0.038 μl/ml gave a repellent power of 100% after 15 min. The tests also revealed a considerable insecticidal effect, which reached 100% after 48 hours at a dose of 0.62 μl/ml. The calculation of the lethal dose causing 50% mortality (LD50) and the lethal times after which there is 50% mortality (LT50) allowed deducing that the insecticidal effect of Ruta chalepensis L. is time- and dose-dependent. Hence, the effectiveness of Ruta chalepensis L. EO attests that it can constitute a healthy alternative to fight against Tribolium castaneum Herbst.

Grayak caterpillar is insect pests that become pests of various food crops. Grayak caterpillars cause a decrease in crop productivity and even crop failure if they are not controlled. Pest control using chemical pesticides has many adverse effects on the environment. To minimize the occurrence of environmental damage, then it is used pest control using vegetable insecticides. Bintaro Leaf (Cerbera odollam Gaertn.) is potential as a vegetable insecticide. The purpose of this study was to examine the toxicity of granule from Bintaro leaf extract (C. odollam Gaertn.) on armyworms (S. litura Fab.). This research was a laboratory experimental research using Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Serial concentrations used in this study were 0% (control), 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5%. The results of this study showed that the granules of Bintaro leaf extract (C. odollam Gaertn.) were effective in causing mortality of armyworms (S. litura Fab.) at 1.5% concentration by 60% and included in toxic category. The value of LC50-48 hour granule from Bintaro leaf extract (C. odollam Gaertn) was 1.41%. Keywords: Spodoptera litura Fab. , Granula extract of Cerbera odollam Gaertn., Vegetable Insecticide.

The toxic effect of essential oil from waste  cinnamon leaf (Cinnamomum burmanii)  against pests of cocoa fruit Helopeltis antonii (Hemiptera; Miridae),  has been done in Green House, Research Station Spice and Medicinal Plants, Laing Solok, West Sumatra in April to May 2016. The experiment aimed to determine repellant and lethal  concentrations of essential oil from waste s cinnamon leaf (C. burmanii) for H. antonii. There were 5  treatments  arranged in Complately Randomized Design with 4 replications. The treatments tested were essentialoil concentration f  (0.05 ml/tube, 0.1 ml/tube, 0.2 ml/tube and 0.5 ml/tube) and control. The results showed that the effective repellent concentration were 0,05 ml/tube and 0,1 ml/tube which repelled  H. antonii  0,03 % . The effecive lethal concentration was  0,05 ml/tube which killed  H. antonii  57,50 %. Concentration used was  highly  toxic which killed l H. Antonii within  six hours so of the repellent nature was notobserved.

Indonesia has seen an increase and widespread reports of resistance among stored-product insect pests to phosphine. The use of Syzigium aromaticum (clove oil) as an alternative fumigant may be a useful strategy to control infestation by phosphine-resistant varieties of stored-product insects. The objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness of whole (unfractionated) clove oil as well as its component fractions as a fumigant and repellent against the red flour beetle (Tribolium castaneum (Herbst)), and to develop a simple fumigant formulation for this purpose. The experimental design used to test the effectiveness of clove oil and its fractionation was a completely randomized design (CRD). Meanwhile, testing the effectiveness of tablet formulations was carried out by factorial CRD. Fumigation test results gave LD50 and LD95 values of 0.234 and 1.142 ml/l respectively, for crude clove oil used in a fumigation chamber against T. castaneum. An n-hexane fraction of clove oil tested under the same conditions was more lethal, causing 95% mortality of T. castaneum at the dose of 0.801 ml/l during fumigation. Finally, tablets containing a set proportion of clove oil and naphthalene (1:1) reached LD91 against T. castaneum after 7 days’ fumigation.

<p>The lesser grain borer [<em>Rhyzopertha dominica</em> (Fabricius, 1792)] and the red flour beetle [<em>Tribolium castaneum</em> (Herbst, 1797)] are among the cosmopolitan damaging pests on several stored-products. The overuse of chemical pesticides in the control of such pests caused several side-effects including environmental contaminations, human health problems, and insect pests' resistance. In this circumstance, researchers have focused on safe and effective alternatives to chemical pesticides. In the present study, the insecticidal efficiency of essential oil extracted from the summer savory (<em>Satureja hortensis</em> L.) was assessed on the <em>R. dominica </em>and<em> T. castaneum</em> adults. The chemical profile of essential oil was evaluated through a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, in which estragole, β-ocimene and d-limonene were the main components. The essential oil had considerable fumigant toxicity on insect pests. The mortality of insects was dependent on the essential oil concentration and exposure time. Probit analysis indicated that <em>R. dominica</em> with low LC<sub>50</sub> values (Lethal Concentration to kill 50 % of tested insects) was more susceptible than <em>T. castaneum</em>. Accordingly, <em>S. hortensis</em> essential oil with a high level of phenylpropanoid and terpenic compounds can be recommended as an efficient and natural alternative to the detrimental chemicals in the management of<em> R. dominica </em>and<em> T. castaneum</em>.</p>

The essential oil from the aerial parts of Blumea perrottetiana was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS. The volatile oil is dominated by 2,5-dimethoxy- p-cymene (30.0%) and 1,8-cineole (11.0%) with lesser amounts of sabinene (8.1%), δ-cadinene (5.3%) and ( E)-caryophyllene (3.9%). The essential oil demonstrated notable insecticidal activity against the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum, consistent with traditional uses of the plant as an insecticide and anthelmintic.
