Determining the likelihood that groundwater contains faecal coliforms can aid water resource management in facilitating the protection of drinking water supplies. This study assesses the incidence of the faecal indicator organism Escherichia coli in 125 private water supplies (PWSs) serving individual houses in the Mid-West Region of Ireland. Two factors, aquifer type and rainfall (mm), were chosen as independent variables that can affect the vulnerability of a groundwater body. Using a geographical information system, the relative hydrogeological and climatological features unique to each sampling location were derived. Utilising this information, a logistic regression (LR) model was used to predict the probability of contamination of PWSs with E. coli. The model contained two independent variables: rainfall (mm; p < 0.001) and aquifer characteristics (p = 0.001). The full model, containing both predictors, was statistically significant at p < 0.001, indicating that the model distinguished between the independent variables' relationship to the incidence of contamination. The likelihood of E. coli contamination is greater with increased rainfall and in areas where a bedrock aquifer is dominant. The LR model explained between 27.4% (Cox and Snell R squared) and 36.8% (Nagelkerke R squared) of the variance in contamination and correctly classified 75.2% of cases.

Emotion and power have been studied very deeply especially during the last decade; however, the common effects of these two factors on individuals' optional behaviors (organizational citizenship, anti-productivity, unethical behaviors) have been less focused. In the present paper, the role of individuals' emotionality, their interest in power, and their tendency to unethical behaviors will be discussed according to the model of Levine. Three questionnaires were distributed and the collected data were analyzed using Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, Multiple Regression, and T- test. Findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between the two independent variables of emotionality and power and tendency to unethical behaviors. Moreover, according to the results of the tests, men are more emotion-oriented and power seekers than women. Keywords: Power, Emotion, Ethical Behaviors

ABSTRACTBackground: The south-east Asia region had contributed the highest cases of diphtheria in the worldwide, and Indonesia had the second highest insidence of diphtheria in the worldwide after India. In East Java, there were 348 diphtheria cases had been reported with case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.72. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the influence of immunization and population density on the prevalence of diphtheria in East Java Province in 2016. Methods: The design of this observational study was cross-sectional. The population of this study was all patients diagnosed with diphtheria from 29 districts in 9 cities of East Java. Data were obtained from the health profile of East Java in 2016. The independent variables were complete primary immunization and population density, while the dependent variable was the prevalence of diphtheria. Data were analyzed through multiple linear regression. Results: The prevalence of diphtheria in East Java was low or 8.91 per 1000,000 in 2016. Two factors determined the prevalence of diphtheria, namely complete primary immunization and population density (p=0.01). Conclusion: Both complete primary immunization and population density had a significant influence on the prevalence of diphtheria. Keywords: diphtheria; immunization; east java; population density

The prevalence of surface contaminants, such as potentially harmful bacteria, within building environments in the State of Kuwait is not known. To the authors’ knowledge, this article is the frst of such a report. A total of 342 stool samples were collected from 46 secondary schools to evaluate indoor occurrences of E. coli bacteria within selected lavatory surfaces. After microbiological testing, the results for the spread of the E. coli bacteria were categorized by total count, sampling location dependency, contamination level comparison between genders, and lavatory fxtures (i.e. seat and squat toilets). The results revealed that 7 schools have a bacterial contamination problem, there is cross-contamination between surfaces in the lavatory stalls, the boys’ lavatories were less sanitary than the girls’, and that the squat-style toilets are more contaminated than the seat-style. The results suggest that there is signifcant risk of spread of bacterial infection among students via contaminated hands and surfaces in the lavatory area in some schools. Thus, this study emphasizes the need to improve environmental hygiene and enhanced sanitation in these schools. In addition, conclusions can be drawn as to the effectiveness of the janitorial staff employed by the schools and the effcacy of the cleaning regime used in the lavatories. Furthermore, based on the fndings, there are architectural design consequences as squat-style toilets might be excluded in lavatories designed for schools to be constructed in the future.

The purpose of this study was to describe selected college students’ (N = 252) perceptions of and future intentions (FI) to engage in public-sphere water conservation behaviors, and to determine if FI could be predicted by a single or linear combination of student demographic characteristics  and latent variables. A majority of respondents agreed a growing population will negatively affect water quantity (90.5%) and there is a need for water resource management (85.6%). A majority disagreed or strongly disagreed that they (53.4%), their family (57.1%), or their friends (67.5%) practiced water conservation, or that people in their hometowns were concerned about local water availability (78.1%). A majority agreed they would engage in four of five public-sphere water conservation behaviors in the future: support water conservation programs (86.4%), care more deeply about water conservation (81.2%), join a water conservation organization (79.2%), and vote for stricter water use laws (55.0%). Fewer than one-half agreed or strongly agreed they would donate money to support water conservation (45.8%). Responses to statements concerning water conservation were factor analyzed and two factors were extracted: lack of agency (LA) and subjective norms (SN). A linear combination of gender, LA, and SN explained 36.7% of the variance in FI.

Previous work has suggested that decrement in both processing speed and working memory span plays a role in the memory impairment observed in patients with schizophrenia. We undertook a study to examine simultaneously the effect of these two factors. A sample of 49 patients with schizophrenia and 43 healthy controls underwent a battery of verbal and visual memory tasks. Superficial and deep encoding memory measures were tallied. We conducted regression analyses on the various memory measures, using processing speed and working memory span as independent variables. In the patient group, processing speed was a significant predictor of superficial and deep memory measures in verbal and visual memory. Working memory span was an additional significant predictor of the deep memory measures only. Regression analyses involving all participants revealed that the effect of diagnosis on all the deep encoding memory measures was reduced to non-significance when processing speed was entered in the regression. Decreased processing speed is involved in verbal and visual memory deficit in patients, whether the task require superficial or deep encoding. Working memory is involved only insofar as the task requires a certain amount of effort. (JINS, 2011, 17, 485–493)

The objective of this study is to identify the factors that determine the competitiveness of garment industry in Ethiopia. To achieve this, Porter's diamond model of national competitiveness was detected as a model to assess the competitiveness of the garment industry in Ethiopia. Based on conceptual framework, the study's six hypotheses were developed and tested. Six independent variables considered are: factor conditions; demand conditions; related and supporting industries; industry's strategy, structure and rivalry; role of government; and chance factors and dependent variable is competiveness. Primary data are collected by self-administered structured questionnaire from owners/general managers of industry. Totally 37 out of the targeted 38 respondents duly filled and returned the questionnaires for analysis giving response rate of 97.36 per cent. The results were presented in forms of mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation, ANOVA and regression analysis. This study finds that the composite the five independent variables accounted for 73 per cent variance for the competitiveness of garment industry in Ethiopia. The independent variables show the positive effect on predicting the dependent variable (except the demand conditions). Two factors --factor conditions and chance factors --were found to be statically significant determinants for the competitiveness of the garment industry in Ethiopia.

The study examined the effects of employee motivation on organization performance of crews in Ethio telecom South West Region Jimma. The data were collected through self-administered questionnaire from 229 respondents and 219 were returned.  Both primary and secondary sources of data were consumed in this study. The quantitative research approach was implemented and simple random sampling technics were adopted to provide equal chances for respondents. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 20.0 using an exploratory research design and data was analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. The correlation analysis indicates that there was a positive relationship between the independent variables (employee motivation) and dependent variables (organization performance). The result of the regression implies that the independent variables (employee benefit, promotion, teamwork, training and working environment) have accounted for 78.1% of variance in the dependent variable. Based on the outcome of the study, the researchers recommend that, it is better if the company focuses on employee motivation factors, mostly Promotion, employee benefit, teamwork and training so as to improve its performance.
