Purpose: The present work sought to analyze the level of compliance of the Brazilian companies in the telecommunications sector listed in B3 to accounting pronouncement CPC 47. Methodology: A checklist was elaborated containing 8 (eight) criteria in which companies should disclose in order to obtain a high level of compliance with CPC 47. It’s characterized as a documentary research with analysis of content over the consolidated financial statements (balance sheet and income statement), explanatory notes and management reports published by the companies in the years 2017 and 2018. Results: The results show that no company presented adherence to the new standard. The company Telefonica Vivo Brazil was the one with the highest level, 56.25%, while Telebras presented the lowest, 29.16%. In addition, it was checked whether the companies already disclosed their information in accordance with the standard before it became mandatory, as a voluntary disclosure. The companies OI S.A., Telebras and Algar Telecom did not mention CPC 47 in the first three quarters of 2017. On the other hand, Telefonica Vivo Brazil and TIM Holdings alluded to the norm since the first period analyzed. Contributions of the Study: It’s a current topic in accounting research because it’s the year of implementation of CPC 47, and relevant, as it will bring significant changes in the recognition and disclosure criteria of revenues. From the literature review, few studies have been done dealing with the topic. From this, this research sought to contribute to expand the list of works produced on the new CPC, with a quantitative approach, in the lines of accounting disclosure and regulation.

Consolidated financial statements purport to report income, financial position, and cash flows of a parent company and its subsidiaries as if the group were a single company with one or more branches or divisions. Under the parent company theory, the consolidated entity perspective assumed in the consolidated income statement, the consolidated balance sheet, and the consolidated retained earnings statement differs from the consolidated entity perspective assumed in the consolidated cash flow statement. Even under extant expositions of the entity theory, the consolidated entity perspective assumed in the consolidated income statement, the consolidated balance sheet, and the consolidated cash flow statement differs from the consolidated entity perspective assumed in the consolidated retained earnings statement. This paper develops a consistent consolidated entity perspective for all four consolidated financial statements. It demonstrates that under the entity theory, consolidated retained earnings includes the separate equities of both the parent company stockholders and the minority interest. As such, both elements of retained earnings should be reported in the consolidated retained earnings statement to make it comparable to the consolidated retained earnings statement of companies without subsidiaries or with only wholly owned subsidiaries. The effect on certain financial ratios of public companies may be substantial. The paper also demonstrates that for purchased subsidiaries, minority interest in consolidated retained earnings includes unamortized write-ups of identifiable net assets and goodwill arising from purchase-type business combinations.

The financial statements serve as a benchmark in assessing the financial performance of the company as the basis for making business decisions. The motivation in conducting this research is to support previous research to see the development condition of one of the oil palm plantation companies. The purpose of this study is to assess the financial performance by using financial ratio analysis and horizontal analysis. The method used in this research is Quantitative Descriptive with analysis design using Term series Analysis. The result of the research based on financial ratio analysis shows the liquidity ratio and solvency ratio in good condition, while the activity ratio and profitability ratio are not good because it is below the industry average of similar companies. Based on horizontal analysis, financial performance fluctuated and influenced internal and external factors such as operational performance and the average price of world palm oil. The limitations of this study are using only two analytical tools and financial statements analyzed only the balance sheet and income statement.

The study presented several recommendations such as the necessity of embedding social information in the basic financial statements and revealing the amounts of Zakat and donations in separate items in the income statement, the granted goodwill loans statement and due Zakat amounts.

The act of classifying information created by accounting practices is ubiquitous in the accounting process; from recording to reporting, it has almost become second nature. The classification has to correspond to the requirements and demands of the changing environment in which it is practised. Evidence suggests that the current classification of items in financial statements is not keeping pace with the needs of users and the new financial constructs generated by the industry. This study addresses the issue of classification in two ways: by means of a critical analysis of classification theory and practices and by means of a questionnaire that was developed and sent to compilers and users of financial statements. A new classification framework for accounting information in the balance sheet and income statement is proposed.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the characteristics of firms that voluntary disclose generally accepted accounting principals (GAAP)-compliant statements of income, statement of cash flows (SCF) and balance sheet (BS) concurrently with quarterly earnings releases. Cardinal motivation of the paper stems from the increasing demand over the past decade by professional analysts and the Securities and Exchange Commission for concurrent disclosure of GAAP-compliant financial statements with earnings’ announcements. Design/methodology/approach Using hand-collected archival data, a random sample was identified as disclosing GAAP-compliant SCF and BS with their quarterly earnings releases compared to a control sample identified as non-GAAP-compliant disclosing firms during the 36-month period of 2009-2011, and several hypotheses are tested to determine managements’ incentives to disclose GAAP-compliant versus non-GAAP financials with their earnings releases. Findings The results in this paper suggest that debt financing, corporate governance, operating performance, earnings volatility, industry membership (such as technology and more research and development-intensive) and complexity of operations (number of segments) are significant characteristics of firms electing to concurrently disclose GAAP-compliant SCF and BS with earnings releases. Practical implications The findings discussed in this paper are of special interest to financial reporting policymakers, financial analysts, firm managers and stakeholders and academics. Originality/value The voluntary disclosure literature on quarterly earnings releases is extended by differentiating between GAAP-compliant and non-GAAP-compliant voluntary disclosers. The specific findings of this study may provide valuable input to policymakers as they study prevailing voluntary disclosure rules and practices.

85E JAARGANG NOVEMBER 535 Thema The history of accountancy establishes that changes to reporting standards and practices occurred as a result of global events or crises. It was said that one of the causes of the Great Depression of the 1930s was the value of assets on the basis of mark to market. This type of valuation was consequently abandoned in some jurisdictions, but was retained in others. The great depression also resulted in the implementation of generally accepted standards of accounting in the United States. It also led to stock issues as a leading method of financing expansion. As stockholders, rather than bankers, became the primary audience of financial statements, the income statement began to take centre stage over the balance sheet. Other factors, such as income taxation and cost accounting, shifted the focus to revenue and profit.

Judging from the income statement, it shows that the marketing strategy of the company is not good, as seen from the increase in cost of goods sold and making the gross profit margin decrease. For the company's ability to generate profits, the company's net profit margin from year to year has decreased to a loss in 2016-2017. This shows that financial performance has deteriorated because the company's profitability has always declined to the point of loss. The main purpose of this article is to determine the impact of changes in the fair value of assets and liabilities on the overall net result of selected banks listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The research covered the consolidated financial statements of five banks, for the years 2014-2018. Methods of analyzing the literature on the subject, financial statements, and legal acts, including selected IFRS, were used. It has been shown that, on the one hand, fair value revaluations have a significant impact on the financial result of the described entities; on the other hand, the fair value in these entities is determined mainly at the 1st level of the hierarchy. This means that the basis for determining the fair value is observable prices on the market, and that the impact of subjective estimates on the financial result is small.
