Background: Sexual function is affected by various physiological and psychological factors. Individual differences and various personality types are effective in response to sexual function. Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the correlation between sexual function and personality types among the women referred to healthcare centers in Shiraz in 2014-2015. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 514 women referred to healthcare centers in Shiraz. The study data were collected using a demographic information form, Female Sexual Function Index, and NEO Personality Inventory. Written informed consent forms were also obtained from the participants. After all, the data were analysed through the SPSS software, version 19, using t-test, chi-square test, and Fisher’s exact test. Results: The results showed that sexual desire disorder in 39% of the participants, sexual arousal disorder in 38.6%, orgasm disorder in 25.5%, and sexual pain in 33%. The results also indicated that sexual desire, arousal, and pain were significantly associated with extroversion and reversely related to neuroticism. Conclusions: The score of extroversion was higher in the individuals without sexual dysfunction, while the score of neuroticism was higher among those with sexual dysfunction. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the women’s personality types as a technique for assessment of sexual dysfunction.

Introduction: In both high and low income countries, life span in sickle cell disease (SCD) is increasing and quality of life is improving. Recent research activities have focused on decreasing SCD-related morbidities. However, limited research has been done on clinical epidemiology of priapism, sexual dysfunction and libido in men with SCD. As part of our ongoing Priapism in Nigeria (PIN) cohort to assess knowledge gap in clinical epidemiology of priapism and sexual dysfunction in men with SCD, we tested the hypothesis that sexual dysfunction is high in men with SCD compared to age/race matched men without SCD. Methods: We utilized a mixed method study design (cross-sectional survey and focus group discussions) in men, aged 18-40 years, with confirmed SCD and men without SCD as comparators for the survey. Participants were recruited from the adult sickle cell clinic and general outpatients department of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital (MMSH) in Kano, Nigeria from February to July 2019. Priapism is defined as a purposeless painful erection, unrelated to sexual desire; and mostly occurs in the stuttering or recurrent ischemic form, which lasts less than 4 hours. We used the validated International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire to assess erectile dysfunction in this population. Additionally, we conducted 6 focus group discussions in Nigeria (3 sessions) and United States (3 sessions), respectively; in which we asked open ended questions about symptoms, experiences, beliefs and life impacts of priapism. Data were presented as means ± standard deviation or proportions with 95% Confidence Intervals. The t-test and Chi square test were used to compare demographic data. Similarly, domain-specific scores, which included: 1) erectile function, 2) sexual desire, 3) orgasmic function, 4) overall satisfaction with sex life, and 5) intercourse satisfaction- were compared between the two groups using t-test; where higher scores indicate better sexual function. Erectile domain was further sub-classified into normal (26-30), mild ED (22-25), mild-moderate ED (17-21), moderate ED (11-16) and severe ED (0-10). We considered alpha level of significance to be <0.05. The focus group data was analyzed using an iterative inductive/deductive approach. Results: A total of 353 men with SCD and 250 men without SCD were evaluated; for the demographic features the only significant difference was in monthly income (p 0.007) with SCD being higher, table 1. The prevalence of any priapism episode (major or stuttering) in men with and without SCD was 31.72% (112 of 353) and 2% (5 of 250). Among men with SCD, 25.9% (29 of 112) and 74.1% (83 of 112) had major and stuttering priapism episodes, respectively. Based on the IIEF, the men with SCD when compared to men without SCD had significantly lower total mean scores (24.9 vs 29.6, p 0.0002), erectile function (9.9 vs 11.5, p 0.005), sexual desire (5.8 vs 7.1, p<0.0001), and overall satisfaction with sex life (2.3 vs 3.5, p<0.0001). No significant difference in orgasmic function (p=0.29) and intercourse satisfaction (p=0.12) was observed. Among the married men with and without SCD, 55% (21 of 38) and 84% (22 of 26) had normal erectile function, and 26.3% (10 of 38) and 11.5% (3 of 26) had severe erectile dysfunction, respectively. Based on the data from our focus groups with a total of 28 and 7 participants (n=35), in Nigeria and United States respectively, we were guided by biopsychosocial and socio-ecological models to develop a conceptual framework (not shown). We identified themes on cultural context, priapism (triggers, schema, episodes and coping strategies), emotional and sexual function impacts, with respective quotes (results not shown). Conclusions: In the largest cross-sectional and qualitative study of priapism in men with SCD to date, we demonstrated that priapism and sexual dysfunction are significant cause of morbidity when compared to men without SCD. Married participants with SCD have 2-fold greater proportion of severe erectile dysfunction than those without SCD. Our qualitative results revealed tremendous impact of priapism and sexual dysfunction in men with SCD. Participants with priapism experience shame, anxiety and depression, and declined sexual function. There was diversity in causal attribution and coping strategies of priapism. Objective: To study the comparison of encouragement, stimuli, orgasm, pain and satisfaction of female sexual function at 3 months postpartum between spontaneous delivery and cesarean section in Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta. Method: This was an observational research, sexual function was measured at three months post-delivery with Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. The study design used was cross sectional with consecutive sampling. Analysis for comparative nonpaired categorical variables was done using Chi square or Fisher analysis. Analysis for confounding variables was carried out using multivariate logistic regression. Result: From 150 respondents, 43.3% had sexual dysfunction, with 52% of the spontaneous labor group and 34% of the cesarean section group. Bivariate analysis showed that occurrence of sexual dysfunction at three months post-spontaneous labor was 1.5 times higher (95% CI 1.02-3.19) compared with cesarean section. Sexual encouragement shows a two-fold difference (95% CI 1.17-3.40) compared to cesarean section. However, orgasm disturbance was 8 times higher (95% CI 1.90-3.58) in the spontaneous labor group, with confounding variable of perineal rupture. Disturbance of sexual stimuli, satisfaction, and pain were not significantly different between spontaneous labor and cesarean section. Multivariate analysis found that spontaneous labor was statistically significant for sexual dysfunction at three months post-delivery in patients with sexual encouragement (RR=2.716, p=0.008) and orgasm accession dysfunction (RR= 6.952, p=0.031). However, the more than 30 years old of age variable was statistically significant in sexual dysfunction variable with RR= 2.60 and p=0.021. Conclusion: Spontaneous labor is statistically significant for sexual dysfunction at three months post-delivery, especially for sexual encouragement and orgasm accession. Meanwhile, the variables with the age of 30 years old or older of age were influential on sexual dysfunction, especially to the sexual stimuli variable. Keywords: labor method, sexual dysfunction, three months postdelivery

Introduction. Research in recent years has shown that sexual dysfunction is now common in post-menopausal women and that it has a significant impact on their quality of life.Aim: to identify the major causes of sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women and their treatment options, by analysing different literature sources.Materials and methods. During the study of this problem, 25 sources of literature, both Russian and foreign, dating from 2007 to 2020 were analysed. Results and discussion. The main etiological aspects of sexual dysfunction in postmenopausal women, such as disorders of sexual desire, sexual pain disorders, orgasmic disorders are considered in this article. The role of physiological processes occurring in a woman’s organism during this age period in the formation of sexual dysfunction is presented, namely, the influence of insufficiency of sex hormones (In particular, estrogens) and genitourinary syndrome on disorders of the sexual sphere. The main methods of treatment are described, including hormone replacement therapy, the use of non-invasive laser technology, and surgical correction of the dysfunction and atrophy of the pelvic floor muscles. Particular attention is paid to the use of the synthetic steroid tibolone and flibanserin, a drug used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder, and the data concerning their high efficacy are presented.Conclusions. The predominant manifestation of sexual dysfunction are disorders of sexual desire and sexual pain disorders. Thus it is important to pay attention to this problem and to treat sexual dysfunction by treating its causes.Conclusion. The treatment of sexual dysfunction must address the causes. In many cases, psychotherapy is necessary. MHT has a positive effect on the sexual function of patients. Testosterone therapy is justified in this case, but is rarely used, as it has a number of side effects and contraindications. Synthetic steroids (Tibolone) have shown good results in the treatment of sexual dysfunction.

Background:Sexual dysfunction is the alteration in one or several phases of sexual activity (desire, excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution), which can culminate in frustration, pain and a decrease in the frequency of sexual intercourse. There are few studies that associate sexual dysfunction with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) due to the difficulty in assessing it and its multifactorial cause. Objectives:Determine the frequency of sexual dysfunction and analyze associated factors in patients with SLE.Methods:A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. We included patients who attended the Rheumatology unit between May and July 2019; over 18 years of age, with a diagnosis of SLE according to the ACR 1997 and / or SLICC 2012 criteria, and healthy patients matched by age as control. Demographic and disease-related variables were studied. The DASS-21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale) scale that evaluates depression, anxiety and stress, and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) that assesses 6 domains (desire, excitement, lubrication, orgasms, satisfaction and pain) were applied with a cut-off point ≤ 26.5 to define sexual dysfunction. Women over 50 years old, with secondary Sjogren’s syndrome, menopause, severe depression and illiterate patients were excluded. Results:One hundred and twenty three women were included (60 with SLE and 63 controls), with a mean age of 34.3 ± 8.3 and 31.7 ± 4.4 years respectively. The prevalence of sexual dysfunction in the SLE group was 71.7%; 95% CI = [58.5 – 82.5], and 23.8%, 95% CI = [13.9 – 36.2] in healthy patients. There were significant differences in all domains of sexual function between women with SLE and healthy group. In the desire, excitement and pain domains the differences were notable. The total FSFI score in patients with SLE was 18.2 ± 11.2 and in healthy women 28.3 ± 6.9 (p=0.001). Stress, anxiety and depression were observed in 58.4%, 58.3% and 50% of women with SLE and 19%, 20.6% and 28.5% of healthy women respectively (p=0.001). No association was found between sexual dysfunction and age, age at diagnosis, disease activity or treatment (pNS). No association was found in patients with SLE when analyzing the effect of sexual dysfunction in stress, depression and anxiety variables, in opposition to the healthy group (p<0.05).Conclusion:The prevalence of sexual dysfunction in patients with SLE was high (71.7%). Depression, Anxiety, and Stress were not decisive variables in Sexual Dysfunction.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

Objectives:Relation of demographics of hepatocellular-carcinoma with the aetiology.Tumour characteristics in relation to anti-viral therapy and presence of viral-DNA/RNATreatment modalities offeredMethods: This cross-sectional study enrolled all the patients aged 18-70 years with diagnosed hepatocellular carcinoma either through Triphasic Contrast-Enhanced-CT scan and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging or biopsy presenting to the Outpatient-Department or multi-disciplinary-team meetings for the year 2019. Demographic variables, biochemical analysis including liver profile and stage of cirrhosis, viral-status, tumour staging and the treatment modalities offered were all noted. ANOVA (normal) and Kruskal-Wallis (non-normal) tests were used to compare quantitative data whereas chi-square-test and fisher-exact-test were used to compare qualitative-data.Results: Out of 195 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, 76% were males in their fifth to sixth decades of life, 96% had cirrhosis, 94% corresponded to viral hepatocellular-carcinoma (82% Hepatitis-C-Virus, 9% Hepatitis-B-Virus and 3% coinfection), 60% of the cirrhotics landed in Child-Pugh A category with tumour staging BCLC-B being the predominant one (43.6%) and single and multiple bilateral nodules were the commonest lesions encountered. Platelets and Alanine-Transaminase had a significant relation across aetiological groups. Lymph-nodes were the most common extra-hepatic organs for metastasis and the presence of viral PCR had a significant impact on the tumour aggressiveness. Thirty-two percent of the patients were amenable to curative treatment. Conclusion: Viral infection is the main cause of rising prevalence of this tumour in Pakistan. Treatment modalities are expensive and expertise are lacking. A nationwide cancer registry is required for the exact disease burden and tumour behaviour for our population. Continuous....

Background: The child feed in the first two years of life is of fundamental importance for a healthy growth and development. Aims: To verify the association between food consumption indicators and overweight in children under the age of two, followed up by primary care health professionals. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 232 children assisted by primary care. A structured questionnaire was used with questions on sociodemographic data of mothers or guardians and food intake and anthropometric data of children. The analysis of the association between excess weight and food intake indicators was performed using the Pearson’s chi-square test (χ2) and Fisher’s exact test (f ˂ 5). Results: Regarding food intake in children under 6 months of age, 35.1% of the children were exclusively breastfed. Among children at the age of 6 to 23 months: 66.3% were on continued breastfeeding; 16.7% consumed adequate foods at the age of 6 to 8 months; 90.4% consumed foods that belonged to the six food groups; 76.3% consumed food at the minimum frequency and with adequate consistency; 88.9% consumed iron-rich and vitamin A-rich foods, and 59.3% consumed ultra-processed foods. Regarding nutritional status, 24.5% of the children were overweight. Conclusion: There was no statistically significant association between overweight and food consumption indicators among the surveyed children. However, exclusive breastfeeding was below the recommended level, a low percentage of the introduction of complementary foods at the appropriate age and high consumption of ultra-processed foods reveal the need to improve the assistance provided by primary care to this group.
