Safety, speed, and capacity should be taken into account for designing intersection (AASHTO, 2001). Therefore, it is necessary to know the conflicts at the intersection. This experimental research aims (1) to find out the performance of Malang Sulfate Canal intersection, (2) to know the conflicts in it, and (3) to find the best recommendation. MKJI, PTV Vissim 10, and Surrogate Safety Assessment (SSAM) were used for data analysis. The result shows that the delay value at the peak hour was 54.4 seconds with an E service level category. The conflicts at the highest peak hours were 2782 conflicts (2035 crossing conflicts and 747 lane-change conflicts). At the end, widening the road reduced the number of traffic conflict by 26% and the delay value by 2%.

For the past 50 years, Traffic Conflict Technique (TCT) has been growing rapidly as Surrogate Safety Measure (SSM). Unfortunately, the study of TCT as a road safety analysis tool in Indonesia is still limited. This article aims to describe the developments of TCT, regarding to the use of manual observation, automated video analysis and simulations with the Surrogate Safety Assessment Model (SSAM). This article also aims to identify the challenges of TCT implementation in improving road safety in Indonesia. Thus, it is expected to inspire researchers in Indonesia to develop TCT, for example by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and microsimulation in TCT studies.

As a product of urban motorized traffic, sharing roads between pedestrians and non-motor vehicles has been widely used in the world. In order to improve the service quality of slow traffic, it is necessary to evaluate the service level of the shared-use path to determine whether the road is suitable for setting up shared forms. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide an analytical framework to quantify and accurately express the service level of shared-use paths. Considering the direct impact of traffic conflicts on service quality, fuzzy clustering analysis is used to analyze traffic conflicts. Then, the corresponding relationship between traffic conflict events and service levels is established, and the classification criteria of the service levels at all levels and the corresponding range of conflict events are determined. By judging the interval in which the number of conflict events belongs, we can determine the service level of the shared-use path, and then determine whether the slow-moving road is suitable for sharing between pedestrians and non-motor vehicles. The research results can provide a reference for traffic management departments to determine the service level and applicability of shared roads.

Jalan Temanggung Tilung is a 2/2 UD type road (two undirected two-way lanes) with a road width of 5.5 meters, which is a connecting road between two major roads, namely the RTA road. Milono and the path of G. Obos. Over time, the volume of traffic through these roads increases every year, plus roadside activities that also increase cause congestion at several points of the way. To overcome this problem, the local government carried out road widening to increase the capacity and level of road services. The study was conducted to determine the amount of traffic volume, performance, service level of the Temanggung Tilung road section at peak traffic hours before and after road widening. Data retrieval is done by the direct survey to the field to obtain primary data in the form of geometric road data, two-way traffic volume data, and side obstacle data. Performance analysis refers to the 1997 Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) for urban roads. From the results of data processing, before increasing the road (Type 2/2 UD), the traffic volume that passes through the path is 842 pcs/hour and after road widening (Type 4/2 UD) the traffic volume for two directions is 973 pcs/hour, with route A equaling 528 pcs/hour and direction B equaling 445 pcs/hour. Based on the analysis of road performance before road enhancement, the capacity = 2551 pcs/hour, saturation degree = 0.331, and the service level of the two-way road are level B. Based on the analysis of the performance of the way after increasing the way, the direction capacity A = 2686 pcs/hour and direction B = 2674 pcs /hour, saturation degree for direction A = 0.196 and direction B = 0.166, service level for road direction A and direction B increase to level A

In order to overcome the drawbacks that occur when traditional safety assessment methods do not consider the certain and uncertain characteristics of information and in order to enhance the calculation efficiency, a new Identical Discrepancy Contrary (IDC) system is safety comprehensive assessment model based on Set Pair Analysis is established. Incorporating the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to obtain the index weight, this model analyses the uncertainties in the degree of connection acquired by assessment, and then makes the identical discrepancy contrary system research on the certainty and uncertainty of information in the engineering system.

We are interested in evaluating the state of drivers to determine whether they are attentive to the road or not by using motion sensor data collected from car driving experiments. That is, our goal is to design a predictive model that can estimate the state of drivers given the data collected from motion sensors. For that purpose, we leverage recent developments in topological data analysis (TDA) to analyze and transform the data coming from sensor time series and build a machine learning model based on the topological features extracted with the TDA. We provide some experiments showing that our model proves to be accurate in the identification of the state of the user, predicting whether they are relaxed or tense.

Abstract Gårdmark, A., Nielsen, A., Floeter, J., and Möllmann, C. 2011. Depleted marine fish stocks and ecosystem-based management: on the road to recovery, we need to be precautionary. – ICES Journal of Marine Science, 68: 212–220. Precautionary management for fish stocks in need of recovery requires that likely stock increases can be distinguished from model artefacts and that the uncertainty of stock status can be handled. Yet, ICES stock assessments are predominantly deterministic and many EC management plans are designed for deterministic advice. Using the eastern Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) stock as an example, we show how deterministic scientific advice can lead to illusive certainty of a rapid stock recovery and management decisions taken in unawareness of large uncertainties in stock status. By (i) performing sensitivity analyses of key assessment model assumptions, (ii) quantifying the uncertainty of the estimates due to data uncertainty, and (iii) developing alternative stock and ecosystem indicators, we demonstrate that estimates of recent fishing mortality and recruitment of this stock were highly uncertain and show that these uncertainties are crucial when combined with management plans based on fixed reference points of fishing mortality. We therefore call for fisheries management that does not neglect uncertainty. To this end, we outline a four-step approach to handle uncertainty of stock status in advice and management. We argue that it is time to use these four steps towards an ecosystem-based approach to fisheries management.

Thermal mapping has been implemented since the late eighties to establish the susceptibility of road networks to ice occurrence with measurements from a radiometer and some atmospheric parameters. They are usually done before dawn during wintertime when the road energy is dissipated. The objective of this study was to establish if an infrared camera could improve the determination of ice road susceptibility, to build a new winter risk index, to improve the measurements rate, and to analyze its consistency with seasons and infrastructures environment. Data analysis obtained from the conventional approved radiometer sensing technique and the infrared camera has shown great similarities. A comparison was made with promising perspectives. The measurement rate to analyse a given road network could be increased by a factor two.
