This study was to investigate the effect of productivity in the construction industry due to the un-ergonomic working atmosphere. The construction industry is a large number of workers concerning industry it leads to productivity loss or due risk factors in the working site. In the review, to improve analysis a drawback, we took ergonomic awareness questionnaire survey among the Engineers in Karur district. Based on the survey results, the awareness of term ergonomics is only 20% and Engineers accept to adopt the ergonomics principles. We extended our work to apply ergonomic principles in the site. The ergonomic deficiency was identified, and gradually new ergonomic principles were applied in plastering and brickwork. 1% increase in productivity measured at 7 days of implementation.

While tendering for jobs, a contractor is expected to analyse the various risks in each prospective project and price them appropriately. Contingencies are included in the tender price to cater for the various risks based on their impacts on the project targets and profit margin. Currently in New Zealand (NZ), there is little or no information on the various contractual risks and their mitigation measures. This has led to contractors over compensating or under compensating for risks with costly consequences. This study aimed to establish priority contractual risks in the NZ construction industry, and their mitigation measures. The research was based on a questionnaire survey of consultants and contractors. Descriptive statistics and multi-attribute techniques were used in the data analysis. Results showed 21 risk factors which were segregated into 6 broad categories in diminishing levels of significance as follows: Site conditions, main contractor, pricing, subcontractor, external and client-related risks. Putting tags and conditions to risky price items in the tender bids, and transferring the risks onto other parties were analysed as the 2 most effective out of the 5 key risk mitigation measures identified. Abstract Background Patient awareness surveys on polypharmacy have been reported previously, but no previous study has examined the effects of sending feedback to health professionals on reducing medication use. Our study aimed to conduct a patient survey to examine factors contributing to polypharmacy, feedback the results to health professionals, and analyze the resulting changes in the number of polypharmacy patients and prescribed medications. Methods After conducting a questionnaire survey of patients in Study 1, we provided its results to the healthcare professionals, and then surveyed the number of polypharmacy patients and oral medications using a before-after comparative study design in Study 2. In Study 1, we examined polypharmacy and its contributing factors by performing logistic regression analysis. In Study 2, we performed a t-test and a chi-square test. Results In the questionnaire survey, significant differences were found in the following 3 items: age (odds ratio (OR) = 3.14; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.01–4.91), number of medical institutions (OR = 2.34; 95%CI = 1.50–3.64), and patients’ difficulty with asking their doctors to deprescribe their medications (OR = 2.21; 95%CI = 1.25–3.90). After the feedback, the number of polypharmacy patients decreased from 175 to 159 individuals and the mean number of prescribed medications per patient decreased from 8.2 to 7.7 (p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusions Providing feedback to health professionals on polypharmacy survey results may lead to a decrease in the number of polypharmacy patients. Factors contributing to polypharmacy included age (75 years or older), the number of medical institutions (2 or more institutions), and patients’ difficulty with asking their physicians to deprescribe their medications. Feedback to health professionals reduced the percentage of polypharmacy patients and the number of prescribed medications. Trial registration UMIN. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyse project risks in Ghana’s real estate construction industry in terms of likelihood of occurrence, severity of impact and controllability. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative research approach was used in this study to address the research objective. The study population consisted project managers, architects, surveyors and contractors from 17 members of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association (GREDA) in Ghana. Random stratified sampling technique was used to select 97 participants from these firms. A structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data, whereas descriptive statistics were used to present findings. Findings All risks identified have some level of likelihood of occurrence, extent of severity of impact and controllability. Market risks, technical risks and environmental risks are more likely to occur. Market risks, technical risks and environmental risks had the highest severity of impact. Financial risks, market risks, managerial risks and technical risks are the most controllable. Among all risks, environmental risks are the direst because they have high likelihood of occurrence and severity of impact but very low controllability. Real estate construction firms (developers) are therefore expected to prioritize remedy of environmental risks. Research limitations/implications The study is based on self-reported perception of project parties on the likelihood, severity of impact and controllability of real estate project risk factors. Firms outside of GREDA were not included in the survey. Therefore, generalisation of these risk factors for the entire construction industry should be done with caution. Practical implications The research results show that Ghanaian real estate developers are aware of the existence of the risks which impact on the performance of the industry. To effectively and efficiently manage these risk factors, project parties must understand the likelihood of occurrence, severity of impact and controllability of the risk factors, as well as individual firm’s responsibilities and capabilities to manage them. Such knowledge helps project managers to prioritise risks in managing them in the face of scarce resources. From an academic research perspective, the paper contributes to a conceptual risk assessment framework for the real estate industry. Originality/value The paper’s main contributions relate to the introduction of real estate construction sector-specific factors to project risk management modelling.

Construction industry like other industries is subject to risks due to the unique and complexity of the construction industries. It shows the risk exposure at highest level during the tendering process. The objective of this paper is to evaluate risk variable on contractor’s tender figure in Malaysia. To achieve the objective, questionnaire survey was conducted on G7 contractor in Malaysia. A total of 120 usable postal questionnaires was received. The findings have shown quality expectation, price inflation of construction materials, the risk involved in the project and financial capability of the client are most significant factors to be considered by contractors when estimating the pricing risks. The study recommended that competent contractors should be allowed to tender project as to see the risk variable inherent during tendering process that will affect project performance.

The cardiac activity of students who have been born and live in the territory equated to regions of Far North was assessed. In total, 132 students of Nizhnevartovsk State University were examined using the CardioVisor-06c analyser that helps to diagnose dysfunctions of the cardiovascular system at preclinical level. The authors conducted a questionnaire survey to identify risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases in students and analyzed the results of ECG dispersion mapping. The deterioration of the functional state of the myocardium was more pronounced among students with a high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. The young men and women with pre-pathological characteristics of electrophysiological indicators were referred for additional examination and cardiology consultation.

The problem of delay in construction industry is a regular phenomenon worldwide, and construction industry of Pakistan has no exception, particularly in highways projects. Delay can be described as the extension of time to complete the construction project. The aim of this paper is to identify main causes of delays in highway projects of Pakistan, and to determine mitigating measures for the identified causes. The research method of this study is based on literature review, questionnaire survey and semi structured interview. From in-depth literature review, twenty-six common causes of delay were found. A questionnaire survey was carried out among construction professionals of highway projects. The causes of delay in highways projects were ranked referring to their Mean values. A semi structured interview was carried out to determine mitigation measures for the top ten causes of delays. The data gathered from questionnaire survey was analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) while, data collected through semi structured interviews was analyzed using Nvivo software. The findings of this study are expected to be useful for construction parties, to mitigate the delays in highway construction projects of Pakistan.

Hall's conceptualisation of professionalism, among other studies, was considered the most representative modern concept; his scale has been studied widely. This study aimed to evaluate empirically the Snizek modified version of Hall's Professionalism Scale for building professionals. The scale was tested in a cross-section of 510 qualified building professionals selected from four countries. Using a cross-national electronic questionnaire survey, a series of statistical analyses were conducted to evaluate the Snizek's modification. Analysis suggested that data for scale validation are consistent in confirming it is a five-factor scale; however, the scale should be subjected to a further refinement before it can be used in research.

Background According to Washington State workers’ compensation data, construction as an industry ranked first in its compensable claims rate of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) injuries (Anderson, Adams, Bonauto, Howard, & Silverstein, 2015). Many current physical job assessment tools available for ergonomics practitioners to evaluate work-related musculoskeletal disorder risks of the back, shoulder, hand/wrist and knee are mostly of general purposes. This project sought to identify risk factors pertinent to given industries. The construction industry is used as an example in this demonstration. Approach Four hundred thirty-six construction employees from sixteen companies in the State of Washington were observed and evaluated using commonly used exposure assessment tools: Washington State Checklists (Washington State Department of Labor and Industries, 2004a, b), Strain Index (Moore & Garg, 1995), American Congress of Governmental Industrial Hygienists Lifting Threshold Limit Values (ACGIH, 2005), Liberty Mutual Manual Materials Handling Guidelines (Snook & Ciriello, 1991), Quick Ergonomics Checklist (David et al, 2005; David et al, 2008), and the European Union Vibration Directives (EU, 2002). The physical risk factors that were evaluated are those that have been associated with WMSDs. These risk factors included: awkward postures of the back, shoulder, hand/wrist; lifting; pushing, pulling, carrying; high hand forces (pinching, griping); highly repetitive motions of the hand/wrist; repeated impacts of the hand or knee; vibration (whole body, hand); and any specific tasks with potential WMSD risks but were otherwise not covered in any of the common assessment tools. Following the results of the exposure assessments, a comprehensive physical job evaluation checklist was created by retaining items sensitive to differentiate levels of risks within jobs in the construction industry. From our job evaluations, WMSD risk factors may not be the same between industry groups and as such, industry-specific tools may simplify the evaluation process by focusing on unique exposures. The final Physical Job Evaluation Checklist is currently presented in the form of a spreadsheet available for download and use ( www.lni.wa.gov/Safety/Research/Wmsd/WMSD2010.asp ). Accompanying reference guide is also available to provide instructions how data fields can be obtained or measured. The user can print out a paper form first, record the assessment at a job site, then enter the necessary data into the spreadsheet. The algorithm then generates all the evaluation reports and highlight areas that should receive attention. The goals are to raise general awareness of industry-specific physical factors that contribute to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), and help identify specific aspects of the job that pose a risk for back, shoulder, hand/wrist and knee injury common in the construction industry. Using the Physical Job Evaluation Checklists can help prioritize injury prevention efforts by identifying the jobs, or the aspects of the job that pose the greatest risk of injury. It is also possible to evaluate the impact that proposed jobsite changes have on WMSD risk (before and after exposures). And finally, it is possible to compare exposures between workers performing the same or different tasks. Limitation Due to the study design, the Physical Job Evaluation Checklist IS NOT intended to predict the occurrence of WMSDs or to provide guidance or suggestions on how to mitigate exposure to risk factors of WMSDs.
