Kata kunci: bahan ajar, model of educational reconstruction, socio-scientific issues (SSI), zat aditif makanan, literasi sains Reconstruction of Learning Materials with Socio-Scientific Issues Context on Food Additives Content to Improving Student’s Scientific Literacy AbstractTo improved scientific literacy of Indonesian students, needed innovations especially for science education. One of innovation that can be done is the development of learning materials. In this research, learning materials were developed through reconstruction process, structure of content for learning was built with attention educational aims, described carefully and linked to context in the real life. One of science content that very close with context in the real life is food additives. The use of food additives were not reasonably emerged as controversial socio-scientific issues (SSI) that lively discussed. The use of SSI as context in learning materials expected to be used as link real problem in society. This research was conducted with R&D method and the design is model of educational recontruction modified. Learning materials with SSI context on food additives content has been developed consist of eight sub chapter. Each sub chapter contains material description, extra reading list and prctices. Assessment of learning materials is done in two ways, validation based on the general criterias and assessment based on Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP) criterias. The resultindicated the learning materials already worthy and qualified for use in science learning process in 8th junior high school. The implementation result shows that learning materials have great influence and improve student’s scientific literacy at both competencies and attitude aspects. The student’s response suggest that learning materials with SSI context on food additives content already understood and fulfilled students learning expectation. Keywords: learning materials, model of educational reconstruction, socio-scientific issues (SSI), food additives, scientific literacy

In the November 1970 issue of the Arithmetic Teacher there appeared my article, “Mathematical Systems and Their Relationship to the Real World.” One point I made is that mathematics provides us with a vast array of symbols and concepts to use in solving real-life problems. When we use mathematics to solve a real problem, we make certa in mental associations between mathematical symbols and real objects. I suggested that arguments sometimes arise because two persons may make different associations, mathematical symbols to real objects, and each thinks his associations are correct while the other person's are incorrect.

Nyirih tradition is one of popular traditions in Indonesia, a country with a diverse ethnic groups, cultures, and languages. The traditions are potential to be explored and used as contextual learning materials. This research aims to analyze the relationship between science (physics, biology, and chemistry) on the use of Betel leaf in the Nyirih tradition. This research used an ethnoscience approach, an approach which raises various cultures in a society to become a science learning topic, so that it would be easier for students to integrate various material in science learning with the real-life  contexts. It was a qualitative research using the study literature type which consists of several steps, namely: (1) determining the topic, (2) gathering materials as references, (3) making an introduction, (4) determining the method, (5) discussing the findings, and (6) making a conclusion. The results suggest that the use of Betel leaf in Nyirih tradition could become an interesting topic in explaining several concepts in science.

Most curriculum components of archival graduate programmes consist of contextual knowledge, archival knowledge, complementary knowledge, practicum, and scholarly research. The practicum, now commonly known as experiential learning in the global hub, is now widely accepted in library and information studies (LIS) education as necessary and important. It is through experiential learning that, over and above the theoretical aspects of a profession, students are provided with the opportunity to learn by doing in a workplace environment. The University of Botswana’s Master’s in Archives and Records Management (MARM) programme has a six weeks experiential learning programme whose purpose is to expose prospective archivists and/or records managers to the real archival world in terms of practice as informed by archival theory. The main objective of the study was to determine the extent to which the University of Botswana’s experiential learning component exposes students to real-life archival work to put into practice theoretical aspects learnt in the classroom as intended by the university guidelines. This study adopted a qualitative research design and collected data through interviews from participants selected through purposive and snowball sampling strategies. Documentary review supplemented the interviews. The data collected were analysed thematically in line with research objectives. The study determined that experiential learning does indeed expose students to the real world of work. It thus helps to bridge the gap between archival theory and practice for students without archives and records management work experience. For those with prior archival experience, experiential learning does not add value. This study recommends that students with prior archives and records management experience should rather, as an alternative to experiential learning, undertake supervised research, and write a research essay in a chosen thematic area in archives and records management.
