Rapid advances in the computer industry and the concomitant knowledge explosion have created a revolution in the information handling electronics industry. The continued proliferation of computer technology in the educational environment appears inevitable. There seems to be little doubt that recent advances in educational technology will have important consequences for educational institutions at all levels during the coming decades. Students, teachers, and administrators alike have already come to rely on bibliographic and statistical data bases, automated dictionaries, micrographic storage and retrieval systems, and specialized interactive cable and videotext systems for information access. Despite the impact of computer technology in the school environment, guidelines for planning and developing useable software for assessing cognitive abilities has warranted little attention in educational literature. This article suggests that computer-based support systems are now available which could be instrumental in solving the problems associated with cognitive assessment.

Online catalogs are types of interactive computer systems; they can also be called “interactive catalogs” because a user interacts with the computer to find relevant information. The interaction is the main difference between Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs) and other types of library catalogs (Hildreth, 1982; Matthews, 1985). Online catalogs are regarded as real-time interactive retrieval systems for libraries (Fayen, 1983). According to Peters (1991), the development of online catalogs can be characterized by three decades of development. In the 1960s, the development of online catalogs was led by the development of computer technology and the library community’s desire to increase efficiency in finding library materials. In the 1970s, commercial vendors started to replace large university libraries as the principal developers of computer-based library systems. In the 1980s, local libraries expand their control of the library catalog systems.

In June 1998, the Bruce T. Halle Library opened on Eastern Michigan University’s campus and began using an automated storage and retrieval system for low‐use books and periodicals. Approximately one third of the library’s total collection was placed into this storage system, freeing floor space for many new activities in the library. This system, linked to the library’s online catalog, could retrieve items requested by a patron in less than ten minutes. While the Automated storage/retrieval systems (AS/RS) performed well, other start‐up problems of a new building and public perceptions of the AS/RS made its introduction a challenge. Planning, implementation, and public reaction and acceptance are discussed.

The objective of the current research was to evaluate the impact of age on the performance of computer-based work in order to develop design interventions that enhance the ability of older adults to perform these tasks. Specifically, two computer tasks, data entry, and a complex problem solving were investigated. Participants ranged in age from 20–75 years. Overall, the results indicted age differences in performance of both tasks. The younger participants had higher levels of performance Further, the results indicated that age-related differences in component cognitive abilities were related to performance. These data were used to develop design interventions such as modifying the layout of screen information. This paper presents data from the intervention studies. Overall the findings indicate that the interventions improved performance for all participants. For example, there were fewer keystroke errors for the data entry task and problem solving time was reduced for the problem solving task. These data are discussed in terms of understanding the extent to which fundamental interface design interventions can benefit older adults.

Bullying behavior from time to time continues to be a thing that haunts Indonesian children. Bullying cases are rampant at the age of children and mostly occur in the school environment. Cases of bullying in Indonesia often occur in educational institutions.  This study aimed to identify the behavior of bullying both perpetrators and victims of abuse (bully) on students of SMPN 2 Tarogong Kidul District, Garut Regency. The research method was a descriptive quantitative study. The number of samples of 249 students was taken by proportional systematic random sampling of students in grades 7 and 8. The instrument for collecting data used an inventory questionnaire from CDC. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study were 17.7 % of students had been bullied every day, verbal bullying was 76.7%, relational 51% and physical 61.4%. The impact of bully felt by the students: 33% felt sad, 26% hurt. The reason for bullying was 17.67%  considered it a coward. 65.1% of the students had experienced cyberbullying. These results are expected to be input for the school in the form of counseling for bully victims and sanctions for bully perpetrators, as well as efforts to prevent bullying behavior in the form of familiarizing mutual respect, anti-bullying culture.

This study aims at determining bully phenomenon among teenagers who bring impacts of violence in educational institutions, and how to eliminate it among teens when the existence of educational institution away from all forms of violence in North Aceh. Qualitative research methodology was used. Data was collected through observation and interview techniques. A descriptive qualitative analysis were used. Data checking was done by triangulation of sources, techniques, and timing. The results showed that bullying phenomenon among teens had the impact on violence in educational institutions, especially in a school environment where oppression and squash be a familiar sight. Initially, it was only at the level of ridicule, and then it developed into acts of repression, threats, and physical violence. To eliminate these, it should give guidance, advice, examples from the school, and enrich Islamic knowledge agains bullying.

AbstractEvaluating the impact of computer-based medical information systems requires not only an understanding of computer technology but also an understanding of complex social and behavioral processes. This essay discusses the need for evaluation of health care information systems, a set of evaluation questions based on assumptions about the impact of technology on organizations, and recommendations for reducing barriers to the implementation of health care information systems.

The aim: To determine that nature of perception of an educational institution has on degree of risk as to development of bad habits in eating and daily routine. Materials and methods: We have conducted surveys among 1015 students of educational institutions, residing in a large industrial center through special questionnaire was developed by SI «ICAHC NAMS». According to answer to the question about their attitude towards school, schoolchildren have been divided into 6 groups. Results: Studying the health-shaping behavior of children has shown the greatest regularity of engagement in sports activities among students of the 1st group. Schoolchildren of the 4th group were characterized by the risk of development of obesity, due to the highest (among the other groups) level of consumption of chips, crackers, street food, sparkling water, against insufficient acquirement of key sources of protein and vitamins. The same groups also differed in self-esteem of their own health and perception of school environment. Conclusions: The most safe group as to development of obesity and other diseases has been the 1st group, students of which attended an educational institution with pleasure and had a high level of physical activity and had certain eating habits. Children of the 4th group with indifferent attitude towards any occupation should be included into the risk group. Outstanding remains the issue in-depth study of prevalence of healthy lifestyle skills and bad habits among various gender groups of adolescents.

Students are accessed using paper and pen on cognitive abilities in Nigeria. This method of assessment encourages different forms of examination malpractices. The threat of examination malpractices on the validity of examination outcomes has resulted in some examination bodies adopting different methods of examination. One of such methods is the computer based test (CBT). Using survey research method, this study investigated the levels of competency in computer literacy skills possessed by senior secondary school students. Three research questions and one hypothesis guided the study. Problems encountered by the students and prospective methods of enhancing computer based test (CBT) acceptance in Nigeria were also documented. A total of 310 copies of the questionnaire were administered to students who participated in the 2015 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at Afrihub Information and Communication Technology (CBT) centre, Institution of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu and 237 representing 76% were adequately completed and found usable. The findings revealed among others that majority of the respondents confirmed that CBT can curb examination malpractice. Majority of candidates were also found to prefer CBT to the paper and pencil test (PPT). The mean, standard deviation and Pearson‟s Correlation Analysis showed that the respondent is preference for CBT were sensitive across gender. While improving electricity was identified as critical in enhancing CBT examinations, poor ICT skills on the part of students and the invigilators were also identified as the major problems facing the implementation of JAMB CBT examination in Nigeria.
