Library liaison services have been shown to be a valuable component of higher education in the US. Despite this established value, however, liaison services specific to community colleges are rarely discussed in the scholarly literature, while such services from universities and research institutions are well researched. Though it is understandable that liaison services at universities and community colleges would have similarities such as collaboration and outreach with students and faculty, it is only logical that they would also have differences due to the differences in user groups they serve. However, performing any reasonable comparison is difficult due to the absence of scholarly discourse regarding liaison services at community colleges. This article fills this gap by presenting survey data on the state of liaison services in community college libraries in the US. The data shows that a range of liaison work is being performed by community college librarians; A number of opportunities for further inquiry are also identified.

Community colleges are under persistent pressure to spend more on technology. In lieu of bolting technology onto essential academic and administrative process at additional net cost, savvy community college leaders are planning and implementing academic service redesign strategies to achieve measurable outcomes constituting gains in academic productivity. This paper presents case studies of four higher education institutions that contracted with Collegis for a range of planning, marketing, student recruiting, academic, and technology management and support services. To be able to accomplish more with less, three strategies are discussed: (1) redesigning individual course sections to increase learning and convenience, (2) redesigning common courses to decrease costs and increase learning outcomes, and (3) redesigning program delivery to participate in flex markets.

The idea of community colleges serves to disrupt elitism in higher education by countering social stratification that is created and maintained by conventional models of education around the world. At a time when countries seek to redefine their education policies towards stabilization, prosperity, and democratization of opportunities, the idea of community college offers a powerful connective solution to community, industry, and national economies. The powerful but flexible idea of community college infrastructure is open for adaptations through a wide range of unique economic contexts around the world.

American higher education is currently experiencing a convergence of three trends: a rise in adult learners as the largest population of students on college campuses, an increased focus on academic STEM degree programs and credentials, and the proliferation of promise programs that provide financial assistance to students. Community colleges as open access institutions are at the nexus of where these three trends converge and thrive. This chapter provides an overview of these three trends with recommendations for practice to guide community college leaders and faculty who are charged with management of these three trends during this unique time in higher education.

With rising and wide spread expectations that commu-nity colleges will become stronger forces throughout the nation, the stage is now set for these institutions to become even bigger players in the landscape of higher education, economic development and social justice by helping to create a more inclusive, well-educated and engaged citizenry. This article looks inward at what com-munity college leaders, faculty and student services pro-fessionals need to do to transform their institutions into colleges that are truly ready to meet these rapidly grow-ing expectations and to be able to take full advantage of these new opportunities. Four key areas at the institution-al level are discussed that must be addressed in order for community colleges to make substantial and necessary improvements in student learning and development. These include: (1) expanding the definition and under-standing of what leads to student learning and success; (2) realigning and tightly coupling every function and activity at the college to better support student learning and success; (3) confronting the myth that community colleges are innovative and flexible institutions; and (4) instituting a new kind of leadership that is focused firmly on improving student learning and success. There are enormous opportunities waiting for community colleges that will require dramatic transformation and change throughout the organization.

The Community College is a kind of higher education. It focuses on diploma degree (the Two Year College). The objectives of Community College are to educate and to train students for getting working skills for jobs. The Community College has competencies that are suitable with the working area and the local needs. To run the Community College goodly and truly, values is needed. Those values influence the mission of Community College. The question was why Indonesian Higher Education accepts the Community College as a model of higher education. The problem was related to some models of higher education that do not fulfill the demands of companies yet. Therefore the Community College becomes a choice to answer the demands of industries and etrepreneurship. The right references to learn about Community College are American Community Colleges such as Highline Community College (Seattle, WA) and Kapi’olani Community Collere (Honolulu, HI). Each of those Community Colleges has the best program for example Highline Community College in Business Management, then Kapi’olani Community College in Culinary Arts. This article used descriptive and argumentative method to show the importance of Commuity College in Indonesia.

Since 1986, with the creation of the Renovation (Doi moi) policy, Vietnam has demonstrated a strong commitment to the improvement of its higher education system. After 25 years of opening its doors to the global educational environment, Vietnam has achieved some notable accomplishments. The country's higher educational system has become more diversified, more accessible, and more open to international cooperation. However, the management structure and quality assurance aspects of higher education still need significant improvement. One of the new and exciting opportunities for Vietnamese higher education is the development of community colleges. The emergence of community colleges, which resemble the U.S. community college model, is a fairly new phenomenon in Vietnam. This chapter analyzes the literature and the Vietnamese government's policies regarding the direction of higher education in general and community colleges in particular. Predictions and recommendations for the future of Vietnamese community colleges are also provided.

The authors provide background on the history and development of community colleges in the United States in the last half century and survey available evidence on the impacts of community colleges on educational attainment and earnings. They also weigh the evidence on the impact of public subsidies on enrollment at community colleges and explore some weaknesses in the current higher-education financing structure. Finally, the authors reflect on how students who have been responding to the rise in payoff to education are to be absorbed by our postsecondary training institutions.

<p>Community colleges have been in existence for over 100 years in the United States. They began by offering the first two years of undergraduate education for students in local communities. Over the decades they evolved into comprehensive institutions of higher education with a multi-faceted mission. Today, in an era of accountability and mistrust of governmental institutions, they are under siege. There are external and internal forces that are causing their troubles. Perhaps, the unthinkable could happen and they might cease to exist if bold steps aren’t taken to save them. There appears to be little time to waste.</p>

This paper is concerned with the attempts that have been made in Canada during the 1960's and 1970's to define and develop systems of post-secondary education to include the various forms of institutions at that level (i.e., the universities, community colleges, technical institutes, etc.). Particular emphasis is placed on the attempts to define the appropriate relationships between the universities and the relatively new community college sector. Attention is given to the quite different nature of that latter sector in the various provincial jurisdictions, and to the more general issues that must be addressed in any attempt to co-ordinate institutions based on quite different goals and natures. The paper concludes that there are very clear limits that must be observed in any efforts to produce efficient and coordinated systems of higher education, if violence is not to be done to the basic nature and purposes of the constituent institutions.
