The aim of the study was to find out the changes in the labor market situation, the use of sick leave, quality of life, and work ability and functioning of the outpatient clinic of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (N=238) during one-year follow-up. Participation in the labor market and vocational rehabilitation of those who participated in rehabilitation increased, and at the same time the use of sickness benefits decreased. Patients’ quality of life, perceived health and work ability, and self-care improved. Correspondingly, cognitive and physical functioning as well as inclusion were impaired. Abstract Background People with disadvantages are a high-risk group of unemployment or underemployment. Disadvantages include disability, under-education, or being a member of a minority, etc. Effective labor market programs could be a key in raising employment and quality of life among this high-risk group of society. The TOP 6.8.2.-15-NA1 project is one of the main Hungarian labor market programs. The project’s primary aims are increasing the employability of disadvantaged unemployed and supporting the efficiency of job-seeking. Methods Our goal was to analyze the effects and methodology of the TOP 6.8.2.-15-NA1 project in Hungary. The sample of our study contains participants of the project (n = 300), based in Zala County, Hungary. Results After 28 days, 53.3% of participants had a job. At the 180th day status, the rate of employed people was 47.3%. We could identify low-educated participants and older participants as higher-risk groups of long-term unemployment. Conclusions We emphasize the role of these services (job-seeking clubs, organization of job fairs, and mentorship) in the long-term individual success of participants. Improving the employment rate for people with disadvantages is a critical factor for enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disadvantages.

Conducting research on the quality of life of young people and the impact on it of such a significant factor as the youth labor market, as well as related research on the problems of state support for young people, require the use of simulation methods due to the incompleteness of information and poorly structured problems of such complex systems as the quality of life of young people and the labor market. The article gives a brief overview of the categories “labor market”, “quality of life”, “youth”, which is necessary to determine the content of cognitive modeling of the complex system “youth, labor market, quality of life”. The technology of cognitive modeling is briefly presented. The results of the application of cognitive simulation modeling to the study of the quality of life of young people in relation to the labor market are presented. An example of modeling is presented in the form of a corresponding cognitive map and a number of scenarios for the possible development of situations on it, which may arise under the assumed influence of various social and economic factors, as well as under the influence of regulatory and control systems.

The technological change is constantly progressing. Digitalization opens up great opportunities for a higher quality of life. It enables more efficient business models and it also has a significant impact on the labor market. More and more tasks, which could be done only by humans so far, will be taken over by computers or robots in the future. It is controversial whether digitalization will lead to a higher unemployment or to a growth in employment because digitalization also creates new kind of jobs. While the impact on labor markets can not be clearly predicted, the fear of digitalization is huge. Many employees in Germany have jobs with a high potential of substitutability. The proportion of employees affected by severe effects of digitalization is estimated to range from 8.1% to 20.4% - depending on the federal-state. In Baden-Wuerttemberg, a very high substitution potential is assumed. Will unemployment significantly rise in the southwest part of Germany?
