Epilepsy is a gathering of ongoing neurological problems described by intermittent, unconstrained, and unusual seizures. It is one of the most widely recognized neurological messes, influencing a huge number of individuals around the world. A biomarker is characterized as a dispassionately estimated normal for an ordinary or obsessive natural interaction. Recognizable proof and legitimate approval of biomarkers of epileptogenesis, the improvement of epilepsy, and ictogenesis, the affinity to create unconstrained seizures, may foresee the improvement of an epilepsy condition; recognize the presence and seriousness of tissue equipped for producing unconstrained seizures; measure movement after the condition is set up; furthermore, decide pharmacoresistant. Such biomarkers could be utilized to make creature models for more savvy screening of potential antiepileptogenic and antiseizure medications and gadgets and to lessen the expense of clinical preliminaries by enhancing the preliminary populace and going about as proxy markers to abbreviate the preliminary span. The destinations of the biomarker subgroup for the London Studio were to characterize approaches for distinguishing conceivable biomarkers for these reasons. Examination to recognize dependable biomarkers may likewise uncover basic instruments that could serve as helpful focuses for the improvement of new antiepileptogenic and antiseizure compounds.

We all take the ubiquity of the Internet for granted: anyone, anywhere, anytime, any device, any connection, any app…but for how long? Is the future of the Internet really at stake? Discussions about control of the Internet, its architecture and of the applications running on it started more than a decade ago (Blumenthal & Clark, 2001). This topic is becoming more and more important for citizens, businesses, and governments across the world. In its original set-up, the architecture of the Internet did not favor one application over another and was based on the net neutrality principle (Wu, 2003). However, architectures should be understood an “alternative way of influencing economic systems” (Van Schewick, 2010), but they should not be a substitute for politics (Agre, 2003). The architecture is laid down in standards and therefore discussions about the future of the Internet should also address the role of standards. This is what this chapter aims to do.

This article attempts to analyse the famous ‘Nestorian Monument’ from Xi'an, set up in 781 by Syriac Christians, as a document of cultural translation and integration. Previous scholarship on the monument has tended to privilege either the Syriac or the Chinese sections of the inscription. By combining the two, and by making use of recent advances in the study of Syriac Christians along the Silk Road, this article argues that the Syriac Christians who set up the monument were using their long history, extending from Persia to China, as a means of establishing their community publicly in new political circumstances of China in the 780s. The role of Syriac on this monument was twofold: it signalled to the local Syriac-speaking community their fundamental ties to the world of Persian and central Asian Christianity, while it also allowed, through ideological and linguistic interaction with Chinese, the maintenance of a Syriac Christian identity through the process of translation. The language of Syriac therefore provides the background of a community looking both backward and forward in a foreign, changing cultural environment.

Abstract Romania is the EU Member State with the highest numbers of emigrants, according to Eurostat. The annual growth of the Romanian diaspora is one of the fastest in the world, and quite recent (over the past 20 years). In light of these developments, the institutional network for engagement with Romanians abroad, first established in the mid-1990s, has recently increased in an attempt to respond to the fast-growing Romanian diaspora. A Ministry entirely dedicated to maintaining the relations with the Romanian diaspora was formally institutionalized 10 years after Romania officially joined the EU in 2017, replacing scattered departments and institutional bodies. However, the role of the recently set up diaspora institutions still needs to be clarified and firmly determined. Policies were developed with the goal of ensuring the integration of Romanian citizens in their countries of residence, but also to encourage return to Romania. In particular, as few other European diaspora populations, the Romanian diaspora is represented in the Romanian Parliament by two Senators and four Deputies who represent the interests of three to five million Romanians abroad.

It is a wellknown fact in history that strong bias in the writers and a wishful thinking radically prevent the analysis of any event or religious activity. For this reason Catholic ecclesiastical writers of the old school distorted the role of Martin Luther and his movement; likewise the Radical Reformation fared badly in old handbooks, whether they were composed by Catholics or Lutherans. Again the same principle applies to many of the modern "sects" in America and in Europe. Millerism is an excellent case for illustrating this unfelicitious type of writing. The layman-evangelist William Miller (1782-1849) claimed that the world would never be converted; only the second coming of Christ could usher in the millennium. In order to obtain a better understanding of Millerism, the movement should be divided into three main periods, which differed in character. At first, Miller's own development needs to be ascertained. Though he lacked any thorough intellectual training and remained an autodidact, he nevertheless belonged to the wide range of middle class Yankees. To be sure, Miller lived not too far from the famous frontier in his youth, but despite preconceived ideas in some writers, Miller had his cultural roots in the built-up areas of a New England society. The second important stratum in his personality was the warm Baptist revivalism, which prevailed in his home. Deism and revivalism thus contended for the supremacy of his soul; admitting the later dominance of evangelical revivalism, reason and order continued to hold a place in his mental set-up.

This paper presents a review of research in Portugal on entheseal changes (EC), widely used to record activity-patterns. This is explored chronologically and thematically, from the development of research initially testing of methods on identified collections, to a workshop in 2009, dedicated to EC, through to the recently published outputs of the working groups set up at that meeting. The role of individuals and the world class identified skeletal collections is also discussed. Key trends include the systematic development of recording methods, their testing and the interrogation of the interplay of biology and society in occupation. The recent outputs of all the working groups will inform current and future research, meaning that the Portuguese role in the study of entheses will be long-lived and continue to be of international significance.

Muslims, or at least the vast majority of them, have been very vocalabout the necessity of establishingan Islamic state in the world, or, if it isnot possible, to set up a unitary Islamic state, at least, several Islamicstates. The idea of an Islamic state has many implications touching boththe form and the substance of the state and raising questions like unityand multiplicity of such states, the nature of legislation and source ofpower and whether or not it ought to be a democracy. In this paper, Ishall discuss only this last question which immediately concerns only theform of the state but which has obvious far-reaching consequences forsubstantive issues as well-for example, the source of power and thenature of legislation. But, although Muslims have been very anxiously expressing the needfor an Islamic state, there is little consensus on any of the basic mattersmentioned above, the least on the issue to be discussed in this paper, viz.,the form of an Islamic state. Yet, the absolutely fundamental importanceof the issue cannot be denied since it centrally involves the question of theMuslim Umma and the nature of its role in an Islamic state. We will firsttry to delineate the bearing that the teaching of the Qur’an has on thesubject, then briefly characterize both the views of the classical Muslimjurists and the practice of the historic community. Then, we will give theessentials of the current positions and, finally, indicate our conclusion. The Qur’an formally announced the establishment of the Muslimcommunity in Madina in connection with three events: the declaration ofthe incumbency of the Hajiof the Ka’ba upon Muslims, the declaration ofthe duty of Jihad and the change of the Qibla from Jerusalem to theKa‘ba. We will not go here into the question of the timing of these eventsbecause it has no direct bearing on our present problem. It is sutficient topoint out that the pilgrimage was the first to be announced, thenprobably came Jihad and then the change in the Qibla. Be that as it may,the Haji and Jihad are treated in close approximity to each other in Sura22 (al-Haji), while the Haji and the Qibla change appear close to eachother in Sura 2 (al-Baqara), the two Suras being contemporary or closely ...

12th Interdisciplinary Co lloquium on Proverbs, 4–11 November 2018, Tavira, PortugalThe city of Tavira Portugal, possessing the proud title of the world capital of proverbs, in 2018 hosted the 12th Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Proverbs of the International Association of Paremiology AIP-IAP. The high level of the Colloquium is guaranteed by the multiannual participation of such renowned academics as Wolfgang Mieder USA and František Čermák Czech Republic. The thematic set-up of the 2018 Colloquium moved from “interdisciplinary” to paremiological. Most of the papers analyzed strictly paremiological subjects e.g. the role of grammatic gender in proverbs, the Matti Kuusi International type system, basic English proverbs, and a smaller but no less valuable part was dedicated to the general role of proverbs in literature and society legal application of proverbs, proverbs and education, etc.. Traditionally, the Portuguese linguistic and cultural input was significant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are about 62 million visually impaired people in India. Going by this statistic this is quite a huge number which equals to the population of countries like Australia, New Zealand and few other European Countries. This draws to the fact that it is the responsibility of the state and all stake holders of the society to contribute towards the empowerment of the visually impaired.

The human body, like any other, is an intermediate component of the nitrogen cycle in nature. Consuming nitrogen from the external environment in the form of various compounds, the body processes it into ammonia - one of the final products of exchange of nitrogen-containing substances [1], which is removed from the body in the form of urea. The most active ammonia producers are organs with high exchange of amino acids and biogenic amines - nerve tissue, liver, intestine, and muscles. In a state of nitrogen equilibrium, the adult body consumes and releases about 15 g of nitrogen per day, temporary or permanent disruption of nitrogen balance results in a great number of physiological conditions and diseases, and the need to stabilize it is well known. However, despite a huge number of studies on the role of nitrogen metabolism and its compounds in the clinic, to date we have not been able to find any conciliation document in the world literature on the classification of ammonia-ammonium levels in human blood and approaches to the correction of hyperammonemia, which was the basis for the emergence of this consensus.
