Abstract: Herbal medicines Have been the basis of treatment and cure for various diseases and physiological conditions in traditional Methods of practice such as Unani, Ayurveda and Siddha. A large fraction of the world population, especially in The developing and underdeveloped countries still depends mainly on the traditional system of medicine. The use of plants and plant products in medicines is getting Popularized because the herbal medicines are cheap, easily available and have natural origin with higher safety Margins and lesser or no side effects. In Unani system of medicine Babool (Acacia Arabica) is considered as Plant having medicinal properties on various system of human body. Different parts of the plant including Bark, Root, gum, leaves, pod and seeds have medicinal properties. The present review is an attempt to highlight the Various ethnobotanical and Unani traditional uses as well as phytochemical and pharmacological reports on Acacia arabica to which commonly known as Babool.

Acacia nilotica Linn commonly known as Babul is a multipurpose tree. As the world is turning back towards the herbal drug, it is the need of the hour to re-evaluate the knowledge of traditional medicine through vast review. In the Unani traditional system of medicine, all parts of the plant have been used as a remedy for various diseases and are imputed for their medicinal properties. Hence, this review presents an overview of the medicinal properties of different parts of A. nilotica L. used in Unani medicine, its phytochemical constituents, and diverse pharmacological activities. The information related to this drug was retrieved using the classical Unani sources viz., Al-Qanun fi’l Tibb (Canon of Medicine), Iksir-i-A‘zam, Al Hawi fi’l Tibb (Continens Liber), Tarjuma Kamil al-Sana‘a al-Tibbiyya, Dhakhira Khawarizm Shahi, Biyaz-i-Kabir and Tibb-i-Akbar for medicinal properties used in Unani Medicine. Further for other traditional uses, phytoconstituents and pharmacological activities, different search engines like PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, Ovid, Science Direct and Scopus were also browsed. A. nilotica possesses various medicinal properties as per classical Unani texts such as astringent, tonic, wound healing, aphrodisiac, expectorant, resolvent, and antispasmodic. In vivo, in vitro, and clinical studies from the published articles validate the fact that A. nilotica is a potential source of various bioactive compounds having various pharmacological properties and therapeutic uses. The various pharmacological activities are anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, anticancerous, antidiabetic and antihypertensive properties. This review concludes that the Unani medicinal effects of A. nilotica are proven by scientific studies.

Background: Vitex negundo Linn. commonly known as five leave chase tree is an ethnobotanically important drug in traditional system of medicine. The plant is widely distributed in India, China and other Asian and American countries. Objective: The review aims at presenting comprehensive information with respect to ethnopharmacological rele-vance and recent findings on phytochemical and biological activities of Vitex negundo. Method: Literature was collected from various sources such as pubmed, scopus, science direct, and others. Results: Extracts and secondary metabolites of this plant, particularly those from roots and leaves, possess useful pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, antimicrobial, galactagogue, antigas-tric, antiflatulant, antiparasitic, analgesic, hepatoprotective and antihypertensive, some of which have been vali-dated scientifically. All parts of plant especially leave and roots contain a large number of bioactive phytoconstitu-ents including flavonoids, iridoids, lignans, volatile oil, terpenes, coumarins, phenolic and steroidal compounds which impart it multiple medicinal properties. Vitexin, isovitexin, viridifol, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and iso-chlorogenic acid are the main components. Conclusion: The review emphasises the medicinal importance of Vitex negundo and its bioactive constituents in traditional system of medicine.

Objective: The objective of present study was the development, characterization and evaluation of poly-herbal ointment and gel formulations of Nerium Indicum Mill, Artocarpus Heterophyllus Lam, Murraya Koenigii Linn, Punica Granatum Linn extract. Plant derived substances and herbal medicines have recently attracted the great interest towards their versatile application. Medicinal plants are the richest source of bioactive compounds used in traditional and modern medicine. The ointment and gel formulation of plant extract has a sound approach, The poly-herbal ointment and gel formulation were evaluated for its physicochemical parameters like color, odour, pH, spreadability, extrudability, consistency, diffusibility, solubility, washability, non-irritancy and stability. Materials and methods: Extract of all four plants has been separated by the soxhlet extraction by 70% ethanol. Poly-herbal ointment and gel formulation has been prepared by mixing the extract of Nerium Indicum Mill, Artocarpus Heterophyllus Lam, Murraya Koenigii Linn, Punica Granatum Linn with carbapol 940 for Gel formulation and PEG 2000 & PEG 600 for ointment formulation. Results and conclusion: Physicochemical evaluation shows that the poly-herbal ointment and gel formulations fulfilled the criteria as herbal formulation and irritancy test also performed to indicate the effectiveness and efficacy of prepared ointment and gel formulations. The poly-herbal ointment and gel formulations were also evaluated for its stability at various temperature conditions which shows no change in the irritancy, spreadability and diffusion study. Thus it could become a medium to use the medicinal properties of extracts effectively and easily as a simple dosage form. Herbal medicines are in practice since time immortal. India has probably the oldest, richest and most diverse cul- tural traditions within the use of medicinal plants. Indians 3500 BC, Chinese 3000 BC and Egyptians 2500 BC knew the properties of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants' use is still a living tradition. This is supported by the fact that there exists around a million traditional, village-based carriers of herbal medicine traditions in the form of traditional birth attendants, visha voids, bonesetters, herbal healers and wandering monks. Tribal people who live in harmony with nature and the environment share an intimate relationship with the plants. Beneficial medicinal properties of plants have been used in some forms or the other by these tribal people and cures were effective without any harmful side effects. The medicinal plants come from categories of shrubs, herbs and trees. Various parts of these plants which are used include fruits, roots, leaves, flowers, seeds, extract etc. and are of immense use to mankind; they are a part of our daily lives, making us wealthy with the world's greatest treasure- Health. Medic- inal plants have served humankind, for hundreds of years and still, these plants are used traditionally to cure vari- ous diseases. Some of the selected plants of district Solan were analyzed for their medicinal use with the help of information gathered from local people. Siddha medicine is an ancient and traditional system of medicine.. When the three humors (Vatham, Pitham, Kabam) are in proper balance then the person experiences good health; any imbalance of three humors leads to disease. Acute Nasopharyngitis defines an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the naso pharynx. It is characterized by rhinorrhea, nasal obstruction, sneezing, malaise, fever, headache, & myalgia. It may be correlated with Neerkana maantham, one of the 31 types of Maantham in children mentioned in Siddha literature Balavagadam. The symptoms of Neerkana mantham can be managed by Siddha herbal formulation Utthamani kudineer. The main ingredients of the Utthamani kudineer are Chukku, Milagu, Thippili, Omam, Sutta Vasambu, Utthamani leaf, Velai ver, Nochi thulir, Murungai eerku, Nuna eerku. The ingredients of this formulation possess anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti microbial, antipyretic activities. All the ingredients of trial drug are purely herbals only. It is easily prepared, palatable, assimilates quickly and also safe for pediatric usage in the treatment of Neerkana maantham. Hence, this article gives an insight on the efficacy of Utthamani kudineer for Neerkana maantham (Acute Nasopharyngitis) based on review of various literatures and scientific studies. This review further focuses to improve the research on Siddha herbal medicines.

There are several medicinal plants having various medicinal properties is being widely used in Ayurveda which contain phytoconstituents. These phytoconstituents are beneficial to manage allied symptoms in psychosis andto treat abnormal condition of the mindthereby promoting mental well being. Argyreia nervosa (L.f) the ancient traditional medicinal plant belonging to the convolvulaceae family having prominent, psychedelic and neuro-pharmacological actions on our body. Argyreia nervosa seeds contain hallucinogens including ergot alkaloids such as ergine and Argoclavine and a naturally occurring lysergic acid amide. The current study describes pharmacognostic and phytochemical screening on Seeds of Argyreia nervosa. Argoclavine was extracted from the seeds and then characterised by different spectroscopic techniques like UV, IR, LC-MS. The results of the present study will create a way for the invention of novel herbal medicines for several ailments by using Argyreia nervosa seeds.

AbstractHerbal medicines as the major remedy in traditional system of medicine have been used in medical practices since antiquity. In addition to its ancient historical uses, pomegranate is used in several systems of medicine for a variety of ailments. The objective of the present study was to investigate the presence of various phytochemicals from the ethanolic, aqueous and chloroform extracts of Punica granatum peel, whole fruit and seeds. The three different extracts from peel were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Flavonoids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C. The three different extracts from whole fruit were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Saponins, Alkaloids, Flavonoids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C. The three different extracts from seeds were found to contain Triterpenoids, Steroids, Glycosides, Saponins, Alkaloids, Tannins, Carbohydrate & Vitamin C.The generated data from the three different extracts of Punica granatum peel, whole fruit & seeds provided the basis for its wide uses in the traditional & folk medicines.
