Online Emotion Regulation Questionnaire for Adolescents: Development and Preliminary Validation

Emotion regulation when using the Internet is an increasingly important way to secure effective social functioning for adolescents. To develop a measure of emotion regulation for adolescents with reference to the network community and examine its reliability and validity, we recruited 535 young people as participants and performed item analysis, identification degree analysis, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. Our results showed that the online emotion regulation of adolescents comprised the following 4 dimensions: positive emotion seeking, negative emotion experience, interpersonal emotion support, and mood awareness. Cronbach's α coefficient and the test–retest reliability met the benchmark psychometric standards, and the confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the scale had a good fit. Our results indicated that the developed scale was a valid and reliable measure of adolescents' online emotion regulation.

The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) is an established self-reported measure of emotion regulation difficulties. Recently, a brief 16-item version of this scale—the DERS-16—was developed. The goal of the present study was to extend the research on the DERS-16 by evaluating the reliability and validity of the Persian version in a university sample ( N = 201). Results demonstrate that the Persian DERS-16 demonstrated excellent internal consistency, good test–retest reliability, and good concurrent validity. Furthermore, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) supported the proposed factor structure. Thus, the Persian DERS-16 may offer a valid method for the assessment of overall emotion regulation difficulties as well as for the different facets of the construct.

Objective: This study aimed to translate the Brief-Mindful Self-Care Scale (B-MSCS) into Chinese and validate its reliability and validity among hospice nurses.Methods: A total of 510 hospice nurses were recruited from three provinces in China. The reliability of the translated scale was measured by internal consistency, split-half reliability, and test-retest reliability. The validity of the translated scale was evaluated by expert consultation, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis.Results: The Cronbach's α value of the Chinese version of B-MSCS was 0.920, and the Cronbach's α value of the dimensions ranged from 0.850 to 0.933. The split-half reliability and test-retest reliability were 0.770 and 0.723, respectively. Furthermore, the content validity index of the scale (S-CVI) was 0.946. The 6-factor structure, supported by the eigenvalues, total variance explained, and scree plot were obtained by using exploratory factor analysis. Moreover, as a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, the model fitting indexes were all in the acceptable range.Conclusion: The Chinese version of B-MSCS had suitable reliability and validity among hospice nurses. The developed scale will evaluate the level of mindful self-care of Chinese hospice nurses, providing an opportunity for development of targeted educational plans. Each item is a direct guide for hospice nurses to develop their mindful self-care practice.

The aim of this study was to carry out the adaption of the Latvian version of the Emotion Regulation Skills Questionnaire (ERSQ-27)(SEK-27, Berking Znoj, 2008) for adults witch evaluates nine dimensions of emotion regulation skills. The questionnaire was completed by 376 adults (82% women and 18% men), aged 18 – 69 years (M = 31.2, SD = 12.99). The calculations for the adapted questionnaire were made for the Cronbach’s alpha, test-retest reliability and determination of the convergent and factorial validity. The five-factor solution proposed by the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was tested and compared with the theoretically postulated nine-factor solution using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The nine-factor model results in the Latvian version questionnaire explain 72% of varienace, but five-factors – 59.76%. The results for EFA and CFA were both higher in the nine-factor model. The internal consistency coefficients (Cronbach’s alpha) of the scales varied from 0.64 to 0.82, test-retest correlations ranged between 0.82 – 0.94. Similar results of the factor analysis were found in other research studies. Findings from this study showed significant evidence for the reliability and validity of the ERSQ-27 and it would be advisable to continue using it in scientific research.

Support has been found to be related to perinatal health, resulting in the development of the Postpartum Support Questionnaire based on the four categories of support (informational, material, emotional and comparison) identified by House (1981) and Cronenwett (1985). Data from four studies (N=207) provided evidence of the psychometric properties of the instrument. Internal consistency reliability was demonstrated (alpha = .90 to .94 for total instrument). Test-retest reliability ranged from .69 to .79 for total scores and .30 to .79 for categories of support. Measures of concurrent validity with the Personal Resource Questionnaire 85 were .42 and .48 at 6 and 8 weeks postpartum. Confirmatory factor analysis using LISREL 7 supported the four categories of support, but the use of these factors separately remains to be demonstrated.

The purpose of this study was to explore validity and reliability of the Lifespan Sibling Relationship Scale (LSRS) which was developed by Riggio (2000)  in a sample of young adults. The research has been conducted on 510 (339 female, 171 male) university students who attended pedagogical formation training at Dokuz Eylül University and fourth grade students who attended various departments of Faculty of Education. The six factor structure of the LSRS was tested by means of confirmatory factor analysis method. The findings indicated that the six-factor model is supported by using the confirmatory factor analysis. The reliability of LSRS was examined with test-retest reliability and internal consistency methods. Results showed that the scale can be used for measuring sibling relationships in young adults. ÖzetBu araştırmanın amacı Riggio (2000) tarafından geliştirilen Yaşam Boyu Kardeş İlişkileri Ölçeği’nin (YBKİÖ) genç yetişkinlerden oluşan bir örneklemde geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasını yapmaktır. Araştırma, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi’nde pedagojik formasyon eğitimi alan ve Eğitim Fakültesi’nin çeşitli bölümlerine devam eden dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri olan toplam 510 (339 kız, 171 erkek) öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. YBKİÖ’nün altı faktörlü yapısı doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yöntemi ile test edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar, YBKİÖ’nün altı faktörlü yapısının doğrulandığını göstermiştir. Ölçeğin güvenirlik çalışması, test-tekrar test güvenirlik katsayısı ve iç tutarlılık katsayısı ile hesaplanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, YBKİÖ’nün genç yetişkinlerde kardeş ilişkilerinin değerlendirmek üzere geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olarak kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.

Rumors are often shared in the marketplace about products, services, brands or organizations; both in the online as well as in the offline scenarios. These rumors get communicated from consumer to consumer in the form of Word of Mouth (WOM). An exhaustive review of literature identified four motivations for consumers to share rumors in the marketplace; which included anxiety management motivation, information sharing motivation, relationship management motivation and self enhancement motivation. The review was not conclusive in identifying any scales for the measurement of these motivations. The article develops a scale for measuring these four motivations. Structured interviews were initially conducted to identify 33 items that motivate a consumer to share rumors. Based on an exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis four factors were identified and the final scale retained 21 items. The scale displayed good scores of reliability and validity.

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of a Chinese version of the 24-item Social Environment Questionnaire (SEQ-C). Confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the factor validity and measurement invariance (Purpose 1) of the SEQ-C in 453 older adults in Hong Kong. Convergent validity (Purpose 2) and test–retest reliability (Purpose 3) were also measured. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis and measurement invariance supported the four-factor structure (representing companionship, encouragement, neighborhood social cohesion, and role models) of the SEQ-C, in a 15-item model that closely fitted the data. The SEQ-C was also found to have acceptable to satisfactory internal consistency, test–retest reliability, composite reliability, and moderate convergent validity in correlating perceived social support. This study showed that the SEQ-C is a suitable means of measuring the social environments of older adults in Hong Kong.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the psychometric properties of a brief version of the AF5 questionnaire (García & Musitu, 2001) using exploratory and confirmatory techniques on a preadolescent population in the Valencian community (Spain). The sample was made up of 541 participants between 10 and 12 years old, 55.1% (298) boys and 44.9% (243) girls. After observing the results of different reliability and validity analyses (exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)), it was found that the reduced scale consisting of 20 items showed a similar reliability and validity to the original scale. The factorial structure also fits that of the original model established a priori. According to the results of the study, the use of this diagnostic tool with Spanish children seems justified.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the psychometric properties of the Beliefs About Appearance Scale (BAAS) in terms of its factorial structure and invariance, reliability, and validity when applied to adults from the community. Methods Participants consisted of 810 heterosexual Portuguese individuals in a committed relationship. As a confirmatory factor analysis did not support the original structure of the BAAS, an exploratory factor analysis was performed. Results A 12-item version was extracted comprising two dimensions: one personal and the other social. The factorial model depicting this bidimensional structure revealed an adequate fit following confirmatory factor analysis. Multigroup confirmatory factor analyses indicated invariance across gender. Concurrent and discriminant validities and internal consistency were estimated and observed to be adequate. Conclusions This shorter measure of the BAAS can accurately assess body appearance beliefs and may be used in different research settings and contexts.

The aim of this study is to develop a scale to measure Turkish reading, listening, speaking and writing self-efficacy of foreign students in Turkey. The sample group of this study consists of 412 foreign students studying in TOMER. At the first phase, four sets of items consisting of 200 items were prepared as a data collecting tool. Eliminating 90 of the items upon expert evaluations, a draft scale consisting of 110 items was applied to mentioned foreign students. The data obtained from the study were analysed by item analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis methods. At the end of the study, the self-efficacy scale of Turkish reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, which consists of 94 items and targets foreigners who learn Turkish as a foreign language, was found to be a reliable and valid scale.
