Significant progress has been achieved in the creation of novel drug delivery systems based on herbal bioactive in recent years. Herbal formulations for novel drug delivery systems are more efficient and have more benefits than other alternatives. Papaya (Carica papaya Linn) is very popular for its nutritious as well as therapeutic benefits all over the world. Carica papaya is a tropical and subtropical fruit that is used as a vegetable and in herbal medicine to treat a variety of ailments. The rising prevalence of diabetes, along with the harsh side effects of some synthetic drugs, has prompted an increase in the search for natural alternatives. Liposomes, phytosomes, ethosomes microspheres, nano-capsules, transferosomes, polymeric nanoparticles, nano-emulsions, and nano-emulsions have all been developed using bioactive and plant extracts. The primary motivation for the advancement of alternative drug delivery is to improve drug delivery quality and safety while also providing greater patient comfort.

: Phytocompounds isolated from plants are well appraised for their broad pharmacological propensities in several pathologies. One key benefit of phytoconstituents is their relatively low toxicity and adverse effects. Nonetheless, poor solubility, permeation, and poor specificity at the target site tend to hinder its therapeutic efficacy. Hence, novel technologies for drug delivery systems are being developed via the use of various nanoformulation strategies to overcome these challenges and give uniform medication focusing at the dynamic site in desired concentration and improved therapeutic efficacy. Such approaches comprise of novel drug delivery systems (NDDS). The utilisation of herbal formulations for NDDS is more beneficious and advantageous as opposed to others. The utilisation of ethosome, liposome, emulsion, phytosomes, microsphere, and strong lipid nanoparticles of herbal formulation have improved the remedial impacts of plant extricates. With the utilisation of all these, directed delivery of the formulation is accomplished, because of which the formulation exhibits impact on the site, and the bioavailability of the formulation is likewise expanded. With these novel medication conveyance frameworks, the actives and concentrates which are utilised as part of natural formulations exhibit sustained release of formulation, enhancement in stability, improved therapeutic efficacy, and protection from toxicity. The primary motivation behind creating alternative drug delivery technologies is to expand the effectiveness of drug conveyance and safety in the process of drug conveyance and give more comfort to the patient. In this review, the importance of various phytocompounds in the delivery of drugs are highlighted as well as their importance in reducing the risk or diseases.

In India, in ancient times, people used plant materials to make drug polyherbal formulations. Herbal drugs have enormous therapeutic potential which can be explored through various beneficial drug delivery systems and novel drug delivery systems. Great advancement has been made in the uses of plant therapeutics on the development of novel herbal formulations like polymeric nanoparticles, nanocapsules, liposomes, phytosomes, nanoemulsions, microsphere, transferosomes, and ethosomes. These formulations have reported having various advantages over the traditional formulations such as improved solubility and bioavailability, reduced toxicity, controlled drug delivery, protections of plant actives from degradation. Also, having the drug targeting properties with improved selectivity, drug delivery, and effectiveness with dose reduction not only increases the safety but also patient compliance.

In the recent years, herbal medicines have gained worldwide attention of peoples and researchers due to their esthetic value, more patient’s compliance and prominent therapeutic effects. Novel drug delivery systems for delivery of herbal drugs possesses several advantages over conventional formulations. It includes enhancement of solubility, bioavailability, and protection from toxicity, etc. The herbal drugs can be used in a more upright course with enhanced efficacy by incorporating them into suitable dosage forms. This can be achieved by designing novel drug delivery systems for such drugs. Such systems are polymeric nanoparticles, nanocapsules, phytosomes, animations, microsphere, etc. The present article highlights the current condition of the development of novel herbal formulations and summarizes their type of active components, biological activity, and applications of novel formulations.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common occurring progressive, autoimmune disease, affecting 1% of the population and the ratio of affected women is three times as compared to men in most developing countries. Clinical manifestations of RA are the presence of anti-citrullinated protein antibody (ACPA) and rheumatoid factor (RF) in blood, tendered joints and soreness of the muscles. Some other factors which may lead to chronic inflammation are genetic and environmental factors as well as adaptive immune response. Several conventional drugs are available for the treatment of RA but have their own drawbacks which can be overcome by the use of novel drug delivery systems. : The objective of the present review is to focus on the molecular pathogenesis of the disease and its current conventional treatment with special reference to the role of novel drug delivery systems encapsulating anti rheumatic drugs and herbal drugs in passive and receptor mediated active targeting against RA. On reviewing the conventional and current therapeutics agains RA, we conclude that, although the current therapy for the treatment of RA is capable enough, yet more advances in the field of targeted drug delivery will sanguinely result in effective and appropriate treatment of this autoimmune disease.

This review summarizes the epigenetic mechanisms of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation, histone modifications in cancer and the epigenetic modifications in cancer therapy. Due to their undesired side effects, the use of epigenetic drugs as chemo-drugs in cancer therapies is limited. The drug delivery system opens a door for minimizing these side effects and achieving greater therapeutic benefits. The limitations of current epigenetic therapies in clinical cancer treatment and the advantages of using drug delivery systems for epigenetic agents are also discussed. Combining drug delivery systems with epigenetic therapy is a promising approach to reaching a high therapeutic index and minimizing the side effects.

: The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has found its roots from Wuhan (China). COVID-19 is caused by a novel corona virus SARS-CoV2, previously named as 2019-nCoV. COVID-19 has spread across the globe and declared as pandemic by World health organization (WHO) on 11th March, 2020. Currently, there is no standard drug or vaccine available for the treatment, so repurposing of existing drugs is the only solution. Novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) will be boon for the repurposing of drugs. The role of various NDDS in repurposing of existing drugs for treatment of various viral diseases and their relevance in COVID-19 has discussed in this paper. It focuses on the currently ongoing research in the implementation of NDDS in COVID-19. Moreover it describes the role of NDDS in vaccine development for COVID-19. This paper also emphasizes how NDDS will help to develop the improved delivery systems (dosage forms) of existing therapeutic agents and also explore the new insights to find out the void spaces for a potential targeted delivery. So in these tough times, NDDS and nanotechnology can be a safeguard to humanity.
