The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between university students free time management, social media addiction and life satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample group of the study consists of 114 female and 291 male university students. Free Time Management Scale, Social Media Addiction Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale were used as data collection instruments in the research. SPSS 25 package program was used in the analysis of the data; In their statistical representations, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and frequency values are presented. For analysis to the data set; T-Test for Independent Samples, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA), One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Correlation Test were applied. When the T-Test results for Independent Samples are examined; In terms of gender variable, a significant difference was found in favor of women in the “goal setting and method” sub-dimension of the Free Time Management Scale. When the results of Multivariate Analysis of Variance MANOVA test were examined; In terms of daily social media usage times, a significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions of preoccupation, mood regulation, repetition and conflict of the Social Media Addiction Scale. As a result, it is seen that there is a relationship between university student participants’ free time management and social media addiction. However, no relationship was found between life satisfaction and social media addiction. While a low negative correlation was found between the total score of life satisfaction and the free time management programming sub-dimension, no correlation was found between the sub-dimensions of goal determination and method, assessment and free time attitude.

This study examines free time management and communication skills as the predictors of university students’ motivation. The study sample includes 610 undergraduate students in a variety of programs. Of the 610 students, 441 are female, 169 are male, and the mean age is 20.1 years. Their GPA averages range from 1.83 to 3.96 on a 4.0 scale. Data collection tools included three instruments. The relationship between university students' communication skills, free time management, and motivation levels are determined using correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The findings show that there are positive and meaningful relationships between students' motivation and the subscales of communication skills and free time management. These subscales include goal setting and technique, free time attitude, scheduling, evaluating, respect, ability of expression, desire, democratic attitude, value, and obstacles. In addition, a regression analysis shows that students’ motivation is predicted by their free time management and communication skills.

Abstract This exploratory study examined the relationship between second language (L2) English speakers’ comprehensibility and their interactional behaviors as they engaged in a conversation with fellow L2 speakers. Thirty-six pairs of L2 English university students completed a 10-minute academic discussion task and subsequently rated each other’s comprehensibility. Transcripts of their conversation were coded for eight measures of task engagement, including cognitive/behavioral engagement (idea units, language-related episodes), social engagement (encouragement, responsiveness, task and time management, backchanneling, nodding), and emotional engagement (positive affect). Speakers who showed more encouragement and nodding were perceived as easier to understand, whereas those who produced more frequent language-focused episodes and demonstrated more responsiveness were rated as harder to understand. These findings provide initial evidence for an association between L2 speakers’ interactional behaviors and peer-ratings of comprehensibility, highlighting L2 comprehensibility as a multifaceted and interaction-driven construct.

The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between the factors that prevent university students from attending to the recreational activities and the life satisfaction of the participants with the demographic variance. In accordance with this purpose, totally 263 students that are 140 (53.2%) “women” and 123 (46.8%) “men” who have been chosen with random sampling method attended to the study voluntarily. In this investigation, “Free Time Obstacles” ,which has been developed by Gürbüz and Karaküçük to determine the factors that might obstruct the attendance of the participants to the recreational activities and evaluates the factors that might prevent the university students from attending to recreational activities, was used. LSS (Life Satisfaction Scale) ,which has been created by Diener and his colleagues (1985) and adapted to Turkish by Yetim(1993), was used to evaluate the life satisfaction of the participants.Percentage (%) and frequency (f) methods were used to determine the distributions personal information of the participants; Shapiro Wilks normality test was used to determine whether data have normal distribution or not and as a result of these, after it is understood that the data are appropriate to the conditions of non-parametric test; Mann- Whitney U and Kruskall Wallis tests were used to determine the significant differences; and Spearman Correlation Test was carried out to determine the relationship between Free Time Obstacles Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale. As a result; it is observed that there is no significant relationship between Free Time Obstacles Scale and Life Satisfaction Scale; there is no significant difference between Life Satisfaction and gender variance considering gender variance; according to the Free Time Obstacles, there is only significant difference at the time sub-dimension; according to the doing sport, there is only significant difference at the Lack of Interest among the Free Time Obstacles; according to the Life Satisfaction, there is significant difference because of the people that don’t participate to the sportive activities. While according to the wealth level, a significant difference was determined at Life Satisfaction level, it is was determined that there is no significant difference at Free Time Obstacles and wealth level. Also, it is determined that there is a significant difference between Life Satisfaction and having difficulty in taking advantage of free time; there is a significant difference between having difficulty in taking advantage of free time and Free Time Obstacles at facility-service and time sub-dimension.Extended English abstract is in the end of PDF (TURKISH) file.

Much research has focused on massive open online courses (MOOCs) but little of it has focused on university students in China who can only participate in MOOCs in their free time. To address this gap, this research adopted unified theories of acceptance and a usage of technology model, and added three new moderating variables, which are the network learning channel of MOOC, free time management, and leisure-study conflict. Seven hundred seventy-one valid questionnaires were collected from 11 universities in China. LISREL and AMOS were used to conduct confirmatory factor analysis, model fit analysis, and path coefficients analysis and to analyze the moderating roles of the three moderating factors. Most hypotheses concerning the three moderating variables were valid, indicating that the three moderating variables did exhibit some moderating effects. Some suggestions are put forward for regulating and promoting the development of MOOCs from the perspectives of government, universities, and developers of network learning platforms.

The aim of this research is to adapt the Free time management scale (Wei-Ching Wang, Chin-Hsung Kao, Tzung-Cheng Huan, Chung-Chi Wu, 2011) to Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. The research was conducted on 447 university students from various faculties of Gazi University, Turkey. First of all, lingual equivalence of the scale was applied. Explanatory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used for validity analysis of the scale. In the result of the EFA, Being in English originally, this scale consisted of 15 items and 4 dimensions. While the number of the items were exactly the same in the ‘leisure attitude’ and ‘scheduling’, ‘goal setting and technique’ was 6 items and ‘evaluating’ was 3 items. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to test the four factor construct of the scale. Internal consistency coefficient of the whole scale was found to be .83 and test retest reliability of the scale was found to be .86. To this end, According to the validity and reliability analyses, it was found that this scale is a reliable and valid scale to be used to determine free time management of university students in Turkey.
