Problem and goal. Since we are going through a key moment in terms of technological advances and their effect on the labour field, the investigation of the on-the-job training processes gains a predominant role. Moreover, the need to research an approach that promotes a balance between the four spheres of development of learning - economic, sustainable, community and personal - is emerging. This study was conceived as a result of this urgency, aiming to respond to the following problem: to what extent does a training model, based on the VPL (Validation of Prior Learning) approach and supported by principles of the educational sciences, can contribute to individual empowerment and, consequently, to an improvement in the organizational quality of Portuguese SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises)? Methodology. The division of the research into two parts - Study 1 and Study 2 - allowed the collection and analysis of structural data (Study 1) that served as a basis for the definition of a dynamic strategy (Study 2). Although undertaken at different times, they have thus proved to be complementary. In fact, the design of the training model was based, firstly, on the results obtained through exploratory interviews with key informants and, secondly, on the data obtained throughout the training process that involved ninety-two employees from ten Portuguese SMEs from diverse categories and sectors. Results. The training model, which emerged from the interaction between the theoretical reflection and the practical context, comprises five components: distance learning, recognition of skills, language skills, intercultural skills and an individual action plan. Conclusion. This study, being an important contribution to the topic of on-the-job training in Portuguese SMEs, at the same time opens the way for the continuation of the research.

Special project cadets are exposed to various experiences as they embark onboardinternational vessels during their on the-Job Training for 12 months. With theaim of getting authentic information relative to their actual lived experiences awayfrom home, this descriptive study sought to determine the problems encountered by company scholars and their coping strategies particularly at work and in their social interaction with their fellow crew. A survey questionnaire and an interviewguide were employed in gathering data. Forty-seven (47) Engine cadets of a groupof shipowners and a particular shipping company who have returned from their12-month apprenticeship revealed that they learned appropriate work valuessuch as flexibility and adaptability, patience and self-control, humility, resilience, stronger sense of responsibility, discipline and perseverance. Vulnerability todifficult situations, homesickness, and mismatched task assignments wereprevailing problems among the cadets. It is recommended that clear measuresmust be done to address issues on discrimination, abuse by authority, emotionaland physical harassment, excessive workloads, and unpaid overtime which havebeen partially revealed in this study. A feedback mechanism is also suggestedfor shipping companies to allow returning cadets to reveal the quality of theirexperiences for the purpose of ensuring a fair and honest management of crewin their fleets. Keywords: Social sciences, seafaring industry, maritime students, On-the-Job Training, descriptive design, Philippines

A survey carried out from 1979–82 by the Policy Studies Institute at the request of Sir David McNee has just been published as a report. Some of the more disquieting aspects of their investigations, i.e. evidence of bullying, drunkenness and prejudice in the Metropolitan Police Force have been taken up by Sir Kenneth Newman in inverviews with press and television. He has been at pains to point out that the survey started in 1979 and that since he took office changes have been implemented in the Force which, in his view, have been designed to improve the quality of policing generally and the relations between police and the general public. This kind of on-the-job training was one of the recommendations of the report.

Like any process, training is movement, change, development. The examination of training as a focused, organized, conscious, guided, managed and cognitive process complements its intrinsic characteristic. It is a multifaceted process: the learner moves from ignorance to knowledge, from incomplete and inaccurate knowledge to more complete and accurate knowledge, in which profound qualitative changes occur in his personali. Since the objectives of the training determine the desired end result leading from the pre-specified requirement to the educational preparation of learners, they serve to formulate the components of professional competence as a complex of knowledge, skills, relationships and personal qualities that each learner needs to acquire and absorb to the end of their studies. On-the-job training as a form of continuing development of medical workers is an important factor in improving the quality of healthcare and the medical care offered. The training continues during the professional realization and facilitates the adaptation and growth of the profession.

This study extends prior study to include formal training as an additional component of experience. Three research hypotheses tested the quality of auditor performance. Results showed formal training as significant. The sample consisted of 96 auditors with approximately two to nineteen years of audit and accounting experience. Previous work on auditors’ experience and judgment produced mixed results. Those results do not consistently show that experience leads to better judgments. However, such work does not investigate the second component of experience included in this study. The study did not find on-the-job training to be effectively related to auditors’ performance.

But in reality, the teachers are less creative in planning, preparing, and make rich and innovative teaching contents which attract the students. Mostly, mathematics learning activities only present problems and formulas without regard to the inculcation of the concepts. Considering the number of prospective teachers in 2019, there is an opportunity to change the learning approach in schools to be more varied. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide an understanding and experience for prospective teachers about making teaching materials using the Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Approach (PMRI) in learning mathematics and producing teaching materials using the context of everyday life. This community service is carried out in the form of workshops that prioritizes practice, employing the on the job training method in which the training participants directly work under the guidance of experts. The results of this activity are teaching material in the form of student worksheets using the context of daily life which are then recorded and submitted for copyright so that they can be used by elementary school teachers widely. After the training, it was found that pre-service teachers had very good abilities and a variety of creative ideas in compiling teaching materials in the context of daily life.
