Communication is the most important thing in life. Communication is an interaction between one person and one or more people. This study will focus on interpersonal communication that occurs between mother and child in building self-confidence. The character of a child is determined by a mother, because of the closeness of a mother while at home. Child time with mother at home is much more than father. Therefore, the nature of a child is completely passed on by the mother. A mother's love and concern greatly affect a child's self-confidence. The mother communicates with her child so that the child feels happy and comfortable. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques by means of semi-structured interviews with mothers and children who are high school students. This research shows that the closeness between the child and the mother is not determined by gender. Mothers have a crucial role in making children appear confident. You do this by reminding children to be themselves, supporting children's hobbies, inviting intensive communication, reprimanding without violence, and creating a comfortable atmosphere at home.

The analyzes reflexivity as the basis of self-knowledge and understanding of oneself as a subject in future professional activity. The psychological features of the professional formation of a personality in the youth age were analyzed, the specifics of the manifestation of reflexivity were considered, the levels of its development were singled out and the role in the professional self-determination of high school students was defined. An empirical study was carried out on a sample of 244 students (136 girls and 108 boys, average age - 16 years). In the empirical study, the following were used: the test to identify the professional type of personality of J. Holand in a modification (G.V. Rezapkina); the method «Motives for Choosing a Profession» by G. Ovcharova; Karpov's method to determine the levels of development of reflexivity; the technique «Differential Type of Reflexion» by D.A. Leontiev and the essay «The Role of the Past, Present, and Future in My Life». In the course of the empirical study, three groups of respondents with different indicators of reflexivity were identified. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the indexes of reflexivity and professional self-determination of high school students allowed us to establish a specific correlation of these characteristics. The results of the research can become the basis both for the development of the reflexivity of high school students and for the creation of programs to actualize their professional self-determination.

Abstract Background: Alcohol problems in parents have been revealed to affect adolescent alcohol misuse. However, few studies examine the effects of parental drinking on adolescent risky drinking (including binge drinking) in the general population. In particular, previous study findings are inconsistent regarding the influence of parental drinking according to parental composition. In this study, we aimed to examine the relationship between parental drinking, according to parental composition, and binge drinking among high school students in Japan. Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of the Nationwide High School Survey on Drug Use and Lifestyle 2018, Japan. A total of 46,848 valid surveys from high school students of 78 schools were included for analysis. Logistic regression analysis with a generalized linear mixed model was conducted with binge drinking as the dependent variable and “parental drinking according to parental composition” (e.g., father’s drinking, mother’s drinking, father’s absence, mother’s absence, both parents drinking, and neither parent at home) as the independent variable, after adjusting with covariates. Binge drinking was defined as five or more alcoholic drinks for male adolescents or four or more alcoholic drinks for females on the same occasion within two hours. Results: In the fully adjusted models, adolescents whose mothers drink (adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 1.50, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.06–2.12) were significantly associated with adolescent binge drinking. This risk was significantly higher among students with neither parent living at home (AOR: 4.35, 95% CI: 2.10–9.02). Conclusion: Parental drinking and absence do affect adolescent binge drinking; our findings show that adolescents are more likely to engage in binge drinking if their mothers drink or if they are not living with either parent. Therefore, it is important to engage parents and non-parental family members in future programs and interventions to prevent adolescent binge drinking.

This cross-sectional, descriptive correlational research study describes the breakfast-eating habits of 846 inner-city high school students. Fifty-seven percent of students reported skipping breakfast on the day of the survey, despite the free hot-breakfast program at their high school. Significantly more girls than boys skipped breakfast, and 10th grade students had the highest rate of skipping breakfast. Sixty-four percent of breakfast-skippers cited a lack of time, and 28% stated they could not eat early in the morning. More breakfast eaters reported eating at home (48%); only 14% reported eating at school, with 3% reportedly eating both at home and school. Milk, orange juice, cereal, and foods in the bread group were the most frequently eaten foods. Patterns of eating by gender and by grade level are discussed in this article, as are implications for school nursing, including assessment, teaching, and research. It is important to educate students and parents about the importance of eating breakfast, because it provides an important part of a student’s daily intake of nutrients needed for energy, growth, and learning.

The use of a computer and internet connection allows high school and university students to access more relevant information. However, there is no consensus on the effects of the use of these tools on academic results. This work evaluates the impact of computer and internet at home on the results of the Saber 11 test, a national exam taken by all students finishing their secondary education in Colombia, between 2017 and 2019. This impact was estimated from a pooled two-stage least squares (pooled 2SLS) model, applied to data from 1.578.460 Colombian high school students. We found that computer and internet at home had a positive impact on English language performance in the Saber 11 test in Colombia. This work allows a better understanding of the technological effects on educational achievement and provides information for the design of public policies for education in developing countries.

This research focuses on sex-specific differences in motivational, meaning- and value-based attitudes to learning in high school students. The sample included students of 9-11 grades (aged 15-17 years) of two Moscow schools with traditional paradigm in education. Motivational attitudes were measured with factor analysis of the subjects’ responses to 70 statements (different sets for male and female groups; the total number of respondents was 162, 82 males and 80 females). The structure of value orientations was studied with cluster analysis of ranking of 10 terminal human values (Rokeach) and 12 learning values (109 respondents, 60 females and 49 males). The correlation between the character of motivation and value orientations was also explored in the study (39 males and 48 females were presented with both surveys). The outcomes of the study show that young girls find opportunities for self-actualisation in knowledge and experience, in personal growth and overcoming difficulties in life, whereas young boys mostly associate self-actualisation with affiliative sphere. The character of motivation in young girls clearly corresponds with the values they choose, while in boys the relationship between motivations and values seems ambiguous. Taking into account sex specifics in adolescents may help raise the effectiveness of learning activity

Due to the current pandemic of COVID-19 which rendered many public and crowded places closed for safety measures and preventing further spreading of the mentioned disease. One of the places closed as a safety precaution is schools. And because of this, many high school students’ education is put on pause as they are encouraged to stay at home. Moreover, citizens other than students are obliged to stay at home and engage in minimal contact with the outside world. From this, we are introduced to the word quarantine which is an official term describing the act of imposing isolation on individuals or a group of individuals; consequently, most adults and parents fear that this will affect their children’s productivity especially that they are in high school and very close to transitioning to universities and adulthood. As thai highschoolers, we wanted to put this belief to the test by conducting this research which focuses mainly on assessing the effects of quarantine on thai high school students’ productivity in terms of self care, education, and contribution to others. Our goal is to disprove the assumption held by many that quarantine would lead to decrement of high school students’ productivity. Interestingly, our thesis was proven true and our thought processes and procedures will be further elaborated in this research paper.

Abstract Introduction. Alcohol abuse among the youth is a pressing social issue. It is not only related to one’s individual susceptibility to risky or harmful drinking but also the issue of one’s family living with the individual that abuses alcohol. It needs emphasizing that alcohol consumption is on the rise and the age at which young people have their first alcoholic drink is declining as well. Also, girls tend to drink as much as boys. Aim. The aim of this work was to investigate the issue of alcohol abuse among young people of school age and the relationship between the following variables: school educational level, sex, satisfaction with home life and drinking patterns. Material and methods. The authors interviewed some 1444 students of 32 schools (12 elementary schools, 10 junior high schools and 10 high schools) chosen at random, using an anonymous questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed statistically, taking the following factors into consideration: sex, school level, atmosphere at home. Results and conclusions. One’s sex, school level and satisfaction with home life had influence over the respondents’ answers concerning alcohol consumption. The research study shows that students of schools at all levels drink alcohol - high school students drink vodka, junior high school students (gimnazjum in Polish) prefer beer, while elementary school students, who tend to drink the least, prefer wine. Interestingly enough, boys are drinking more than girls, yet girls are more likely to try all types of alcohol. Children who reported good atmosphere at home are less likely to drink, while in case of troubled homes, only every eighth respondent does not drink. The atmosphere at home also affects one’s drinking habits. Most of the respondents have no idea about ways of helping people addicted to alcohol.
