Human blood groups ABO (BG) represent an important system in blood transfusion medicine and transplantation, and have a role in the development of heart disease. The current study was conducted with the aim of comparing the types of blood groups and knowing the most affected by atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes. Our study was consisted of total (n192) population with age range (45-70) years old and overweight in terms of their BMI. The first group included (n64) under Precautinous coronary intervention (PCI) catheterization with atherosclerosis and diabetes type 2. The second group (n64) underwent Diagnostic (DIG) catheterization with diabetes type 2 and without atherosclerosis. The association between blood group types with diabetes type 2 disease and atherosclerosis was investigated. The most prevalent blood group was O+(93.74%) in DIG, (80.84%) in PCI closely followed by group B(49.99%), (44.62%) in DIG and PCI respectively, and group A (43.75%)In both group. Least prevalent blood group was AB (35.25%) in PCI and (12.5%) in DIG group. In conclusion the patients with type O are more likely to have diabetes and atherosclerosis, and those with type B are more likely to develop diabetes. Type A and AB are less likely to develop sclerosis.

ABO and Rh blood group systems have been associated with a number of diseases including type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Epidemiological studies have inconsistently associated ABO and Rhesus (Rh) blood groups with T2DM risk. To assess the distribution of ABO and Rh blood groups among type-2 diabetic subjects and to check the potential association between ABO and Rh blood groups with T2DM. This small retrospective case-control study was conducted at DM WIMS Hospital, Wayanad. One-year data (from Jan-18 to Jan-19) of fasting, postprandial or random plasma/serum glucose, HbA1c, ABO and Rh blood groups of Non- diabetic and type -2 diabetic subjects were collected from the Hospital Clinical Laboratory Medicine department. Among 280 randomly selected data, 147 are non-diabetic subjects, and 133 are confirmed and known cases of type 2 diabetic mellitus. Subjects with Blood group B has the highest distribution percentage among group-2 (59.39%) in comparison with group-1 (34.02%), followed by A (19.55%), O (18.79%), AB (2.27%). Statistical analysis using Chi-square test among ABO and Rh blood groups between group-1 and group-2 showed a significant (p< 0.001) association of blood group “B +ve” and least association of blood group “O +ve” with T2DM. However, the Rh Blood groups evaluation for T2DM showed no clear association, as both Rh +ve and Rh -ve were uniformly distributed in the groups. The ABO and Rh blood groups may have a possible role to play in the development of T2DM. The subjects with B + ve blood group are at greater risk for T2DM and O + ve blood group individuals are at lower risk for T2DM. Background. ABO and Rh blood group antigens are thought to be among genetic determinants of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Identification of blood group phenotypes are more associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It will be helpful for individuals who are susceptible blood groups to take care of themselves by avoiding other predisposing factors and taking preventive measures. Methods. Hospital-based comparative cross-sectional study was carried out from February to April 2019 at Felege Hiwot Comprehensive Referral Hospital. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected with a semistructured pretested questionnaire. ABO and Rh Blood group were determined by slide and test tube methods. Biochemical parameters were determined with Mindray BS-200E fully automated clinical chemistry analyzer. Data were analyzed by IBM SPSS version 20 statistical software. Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were employed for data analysis. A P value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results. From a total of 424 participants included for this study, blood group O was found higher in frequency with 74 (34.9%) and 97 (45.75%) for cases and healthy controls, respectively. ABO blood groups showed significant association with T2DM, a chi-square value of 12.163 and P value of 0.007. However, the Rh blood group was not associated with T2DM. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that blood group B had a higher risk (OR: 2.12, 95% CI: 1.33-3.32) and blood group O had decreased risk (OR: 0.636, 95% CI: 0.43-0.94) of T2DM as compared to other blood groups. Conclusion. ABO blood group antigens showed significant association with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Blood group B was associated with an increased risk and O blood group with decreased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Background: Globally stroke is leading cause of death and disability. According to WHO every year 15 million people get stroke and one third of these subjects die and about 5 million become permanently disabled. In SA smoking, diabetes, and hypertension are highly prevalent and since these factors are among ten major risk factors for stroke it puts Saudi population at higher risk of stroke. In current study we studied prevalence of hemorrhagic (HS) stroke and analyzed if there is any correlation between incidences of HS and ABO blood groups in Saudi population. Methods: Blood groups and other relevant data were collected for 2304 stroke patients registered at King Khaled hospital between 1/1/2008 to 1/6/2018. Statistical analysis was performed using Z calculator. Results: We saw 5.4-fold increase in prevalence of diabetes type 2 and 8.7 fold increase in prevalence of hypertension among HS patients as compared to control subjects. Prevalence of smoking was higher in both control and HS patients. 21.7% of stroke patients were HS patients. Distribution of A blood group was significantly higher in male HS patients. AB blood group showed statistically significant reduction in HS patients as compared to control group. Results were statistically significant at (p˂0.01). However, blood group B and O showed no significant differences between two groups. Conclusions: Results of our studies show a correlation between ABO and the incidences of hemorrhagic stroke in Saudi adult male population. Larger studies are needed to confirm these results.

Introduction: Hyperuricemia is common Type 2 diabetes at very high cardiovascular risk. Objective: Evaluate the relationship between hyperuricemia and diabetes type 2, and determine its predictive factors in this population. Patients and Methods: Retrospective study cross including 190 patients with diabetes type 2 hospitalized Service of Endocrinology of CHU Ibn Rushd Casablanca from January 2015 to December 2017. Hyperuricemia was defined as a serum uric acid concentration> 70 mg/L (men) and> 60 mg/L (women). The variables studied were the anthropometric measurements), cardiovascular factors (tobacco, hypertension, dyslipidemia), and degenerative complications (retinopathy, neuropathy, kidney failure, ischemic heart disease). The analyzes were performed by SPSS software. Results: Hyperuricemia was found in 26.5% of patients with a female predominance (76%), an average age of 55.9 years, and an average age of 12.4ans diabetes. The glycemic control was found in 84.6% of cases with mean glycated hemoglobin 8.6%. Factors associated al hyperuricemia were the blood pressure in 86% (p <0.05), dyslipidemia in 76.3% of cases (p <0.001) with hypertriglyceridemia in 48.3% of cases (p <0.02), and a hypoHDLémie 28% (p <0.001). The age, obesity, smoking, and glycemic control were associated significantly n al hyperuricemia. The research of degenerative complications of hyperuricemia has objectified renal impairment (GFR between 15 and 60ml / min) chez47% (p <0.001), it was kind of moderate in 35.8% (p <0.01) and severe in 5.1% (p <0.02), ischemic heart disease was found in 34% of cases (p <0.01). Conclusion: In our study, hyperuricemia in type 2 diabetes is common in female patients, especially with hypertension, dyslipidemia, and renal failure. Other factors such as age, obesity, smoking is not associated with hyperuricemia in type 2 diabetics.
