This paper discusses the results of two experiments in self assessment and discusses their value in evaluating student consciousness of their competence, and the opportunity to improve self-awareness and competence in students. The data was gathered from two different engineering courses. The first experiment was conducted in a second-year course on basic electronics and electrical power. As part of the final examination, students were asked to assess their confidence in their answer to each question. The student self-assessment was compared to the actual result in an effort to determine the student’s perception of their competence. Student assessment was coded with respect to consciousness and competence. The second experiment was performed on a midterm examination in engineering ethics and professionalism, a senior course discussing the impact and interaction of the engineering profession on society. Students were given an annotated exemplar and a marking rubric and asked to grade their own midterm submissions. The student assessments were compared to the instructor assessment and again the results were coded with respect to consciousness and competence. The results showed a contrast between the second-year and senior courses. For the second-year course, 50.3% were coded as consciously competent or incompetent. In the senior course, 80% of students were coded as consciously competent. The comparison of the two results suggest that senior students, given suitable instruction, are more aware of their competence than junior students suggesting that current methods do develop an improved awareness of competence, although other factors may be relevant. It is suggested that student awareness be formally monitored, and results used to modify pedagogy to improve and accelerate consciousness in graduates.

The article aims to review the experience of creating and launching the ProSiberia platform, and to discuss the prospects for its further development. Based on the aggregation of digital sources of Siberian origin, the ProSiberia project aims to create a research platform that will bring together scholars, content curators (libraries, museums, archives) and society in order to study Siberia and position the region in the global information space. Work on the platform began in 2020 within the framework of the Program for Increasing the Competitiveness of National Research Tomsk State Unversity by the staff of the Tomsk State University Research Library. Now the platform has implemented opportunities both for humanitarian researchers and for civic science representatives (volunteers). For researchers, access to digital copies of texts about Siberia with detailed description and full-text search is organized; it is possible to create one’s own collections of texts; there are some text collaboration tools. It is also possible to find researchers with similar interests and exchange views. A volunteer can edit texts, operate a blog, participate in challenges. The platform is also being filled with new texts. Prospects for the development of the project are considered; they were formulated based on the results of surveys and focus groups. The main directions of development include: work on improving the quality of texts (attracting volunteers for their correct recognition); aggregation of digital tools for the humanities in one place for effective work with texts; attraction of partners; integration into the educational process. The most difficult issue is the aggregation of digital tools. The article lists their most interesting groups: tools for creating and working with digital facsimiles, textometric tools, and a number of tools for working with digitized manuscripts. Thus, at the moment, the initial version of the ProSiberia platform has been created. It allows implementing remotely the basic functions characteristic for any research in the field of humanities. However, most probably, the most important and difficult will be the next stage of the work, which includes, among other things, the aggregation of digital tools for working with the text of interest for the researcher. Therefore, it is extremely important to have a broad discussion in the professional community of both the work already done within the ProSiberia project and the further prospects for its development.

The current relevance of the research. The study of the quality of life is a core issue both at the scientists’ level and the level of government workers in the world. The main goal is not only to extend lifetime, but to improve its quality too. Ukraine’s desire to enter the European Community and the European Union is impossible without substantial improvement of the quality of life. However, the quality of life depends on the quality of labor potential, and hence on the prospects for the development of the country. Since the 70s of the XXth century, the state of the quality of life has begun to attract the attention of many researchers and practitioners in various fields of researches. The Council of the European Union adopted a development strategy in 2010 – ‘Europe 2020: A Strategy for smart, stable and inclusive growth’ based on the analysis of monitoring the quality of life of the European Union. The aim was to study the students’ components of the quality of life, depending on the place of study (countries) and the origin (nationality). Methods: synthesis and analysis of the current scientific and methodological studies on self-assessment of the quality of life using the SF-36 questionnaire and the methods of mathematical statistics. Results. Analyzing the students’ answers, we revealed the regularity among indicators of the physical and mental (psychological) components of the quality of life and the sex of the respondents, the year of study, self-evaluation of their study achievements, conditions of life. Besides, the main components that play the leading roles in shaping the overall picture of the quality of life and those that reduce the quality of students’ lives were found out. Due to the analysis of the correlations between indicators of the physical and mental (psychological) components of the quality of life, the interdependent components that form the basis of the students’ quality of life were highlighted. Conclusions. The study makes it possible to compare both the generalized results of the quality of the Ukrainian and Polish students’ lives and the individual components that form the physica l and mental (psychological) basis for the quality of life.

Background and Objectives: The majority of medical students receive some of their training with a community preceptor. Nearly all of these preceptors are motivated by a desire to give back to their profession through teaching and they want to learn how to teach more effectively. Designing effective educational programs to improve preceptor teaching is important to upholding the quality of medical education. Methods: We designed an educational program consisting of readings, short videos, handouts and posters, as well as one-on-one sessions with a trained standardized medical student. The standardized student visited the community physician’s office both before and after the preceptor engaged with the educational materials related to a subject area of the preceptor’s choosing. We assessed the preceptor’s teaching using three tools: self-evaluation, student reporting of observed behaviors, and an overall rating of teaching effectiveness. Results: Thirteen preceptors took part in this the educational intervention. Per the self-assessment, preceptors showed improved teaching competency for all items on the questionnaire, with 12 of the 21 items (57%) showing statistically significant results (P<.05). The standardized student reported that preceptors used more of eight desired teaching behaviors in the second mock preceptor encounter than they used in the first, with a mean increase of 1.46 (P=.001). Overall teaching effectiveness scores increased, with a mean increase of 1.15 (P=.001) on the 10-point scale. Moreover, all participants indicated they were either satisfied or highly satisfied with the program and that they would recommend this program to a colleague. Conclusions: Our preceptor-improvement intervention led to demonstrable improvement in preceptor teaching, as measured by preceptor evaluation and evaluation by the standardized student. More research is needed to see if these results can be replicated and, in particular, to determine which aspects of the intervention were most useful.

The article discusses one of the most important topics in the field of human psychology — appearance as value and self-relation, a number of psychological approaches are analyzed to the problem of self-approaching the problem of self-assessment, I-Concept, the role of self-acceptance and subjective interpretation of its appearance in the subjective welfare of the personality is noted. The results of an empirical study of ideas about their appearance through self-relation using the techniques are given: “The test index of life satisfaction (IZZA)”, the adaptation of N. V. Panina, the Questionnaire of Satisfaction “of the Father I” and the methodology of the Research Research S.R. Panteleeva (MIS) . As an object of study, 20 student students of the Orenburg State University were made aged 18 to 23 years old, as well as 20 women aged 38–45 years. The study showed that the image of his “I” from a significant number of women and girls is perceived in a negative plan. And this in turn affects satisfaction with the quality of life and the success of social adaptation. It was also noted that the attitude towards his physical “I” in women of older age is different from the girls of 18–23 years. They are more positive about themselves and the feeling of self-satisfaction and self-proposals are higher.
