This research aimed to investigate students’ perception on the use of code-switching in English classroom and to figure out its advantages for them in learning English. Qualitative research method was applied in this research. The participants of this research were 36 students of 10th grade in vocational high school in Cimahi. There were 36 students involved in the questionnaire and only 9 students involved in the interview session. The data from questionnaire were analyzed based on the theory of Cohen (2010) in (Rahmadani, 2016) to investigate the students’ perception and interview session to figure out its advantages for students in learning English. The result showed that (1) students showed their positive perceptions on the use of code-switching in English classroom being proven by 75% - 95% of the entire students and (2) students got several advantages from the use of code-switching in English classroom; enabling them to understand the material easily, helping them increase new vocabularies, helping them learn English faster, helping them understand every sentence in English easily, helping them take the main point of the learning, helping them avoid confusion, and making them comfort and confident in learning English.

The objectives of this research was to know the process of learning English vocabulary by using guessing words game and to know the students’ problem in learning English vocabulary by using guessing words game for the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu in academic year of2019/2020 with the use of guessing words game technique. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research method. The researcher chose class VII D as sample which consisted of 23 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used four kinds of instruments, they were: observation,interview, test and document. Based on the observation, there are some problems in the teaching and learning. To solve those problems, the researcher implemented guessing words game as vocabulary activities. This research was conducted through classroom action research that consisted of two cycles. Each cycles consisted three meetings. The result of the research showed that there were some improvements of the students’ vocabulary. In cycle 1 average score was 62,86 there were some unsuccessful score. Meanwhile, in cycle 2 average score was 72,34 the implementation of guessing words game was successful in developing students vocabulary. Guessing words game gives better result to develop the students’ vocabulary. In other words, guessing words game is effective to use in teaching English vocabulary.

Code switching is a phenomenon where a person switches their language when speaking. Code switching or CS is mostly used by young teenager who are able to speak in 2 more languages, or bilingual, and young YouTuber from Indonesia, Naila is one of them. This research aims are to analyzed the types and functions of Code Switching that Naila uttered on one of her YouTube video entitled “Belajar Bahasa Asing OTODIDAK kayak Fiki Naki”. Using qualitative research method and both theories of code switching types by Poplack (1980) and speech function of code switching theories by Appel & Muysken (2005), this research found all the types and functions are used in the video with Intra-sentential code switching and metalinguistic function are the most frequent used by Naila on the video.

Abstract—This study examines code-switching and code mixing realized in the interactional activities undertaken by govermental leaders in the Denpasar City of Bali Province, Indonesia. Typically I reveal the language types used by bilingual and multingual governments during code swithing and code mixing events as well as investigating their leading factors. The study was designed using qualitative research method. The results of this study indicate that code mixing dan code-switching undertaken by the leaders in the governmental area of Denpasar city involves 3 types of language, namely Balinese, Indonesian, and English. An element of code mixing filler occurring during interactional process of the leaders is tangible words and phrases. Leading factors to such phenomena of code mixing and code-switching are: language ability, speech topics, speech participants, speech situations, prestige; and creating regional or religious nuances. This research aims to reveal the attitudes of the teacher in using code switching in the classroom from English (or shorten by L2) to the Indonesian language (or shorten by L1) or vice versa and also to find out the functions of teacher’s switching to the L1 in practice in Grade IX of SMK 10 Padang. The descriptive qualitative research method is used to analyze teachers’ code switching to Indonesian language through the observation and interview. The subject in this research is an English teacher who taught in grade IX of SMK 10 Padang. Based on the analysis of the data, it can be concluded that the code switching used by the teacher in the classroom plays a positive role in the process of teaching and learning. Moreover, the functions of code switching used by the teacher in the classroom are in order to explain vocabulary, give grammar instruction, emphasize some points, manage the class, index a stance of empathy or solidarity towards students.

This study aims at describing the discourse of Friday sermons in the city of Surakarta. This study is a sociolinguistic study with qualitative research method. The language based code shows Indonesian language is used dominantly because the object of study is in Surakarta. Arabic is widely used because the Friday sermons are one kind of worships in Islam. Javanese language is used because of the speech location and cultural backgrounds. English only slightly appears and is influenced by the speakers’ background. The code based on the variations can be divided into the standard and non standard languages. Intra-sentential code switchings take the forms of words, reduplication, word repetitions, and phrases. This is due to attitudinal and linguistic factors. Inter-sentential code switchings are permanent and temporary. The determining factors are speakers, interlocutors, topics or subject matters, special speech functions/ends, and changes in circumstances. The functions of code switching in the Friday sermons are to express gratitude, purify God, glorify God, honor someone, express amazement, prohibit, sound prestigious, express permission, beg for forgiveness, beautify utterances, change the subject, pray for someone, declare an appointment, mention terms, express doubts, and regret something.

This study aims to describe the social competence of homeschoolers, learning tutors visit program at ANSA School Semarang, and the influence of the learning program on the social competence of homeschoolers. The research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research method involving four homeschoolers equivalent to Junior High School (SMP) grades VII and VIII and some relevant resources. The results show that the social competence of the four homeschoolers is good enough according to some indicators in this resarch, for instance their openness to others. Moreover, the learning tutor visit program organized by ANSA School is a highly structured and systematic learning program with the aim to provide learning facilities for children who have special need, so the learning program visit tutor could be categorize to be one of the homeschooler competency forming factors. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi sosial homeschooler, program pembelajaran tutor visit di Ansa School Semarang, serta pengaruh antara program pembelajaran tersebut terhadap kompetensi sosial homeschooler. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif, melibatkan empat homeschooler setara Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) kelas VII dan VIII, serta beberapa narasumber terkait. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi sosial yang dimiliki oleh keempat homeschooler cukup baik yang ditunjukkan dengan terpenuhinya beberapa indikator-indikator dalam penelitian serta keterbukaan mereka terhadap orang lain. Kemudian, program pembelajaran tutor visit yang diselenggarakan oleh Ansa School merupakan program pembelajaran yang sangat terstruktur dan sistematis dengan tujuan untuk memberikan fasilitas belajar bagi anak-anak yang memiliki kebutuhan khusus, sehingga program pembelajaran tutor visit dapat disimpulkan menjadi salah satu faktor pembentuk kompetensi sosial homeschooler. The purpose of this study is to find the values of character education by using material of the Struggle of K.H Gholib in defending Indonesian Independence at the Lampung Residency. The method used is descriptive qualitative research method with library research. The results of this study are briefly elaborated on the biography and struggle of K.H Gholib as a local figure who fought to defend Indonesia's independence at the Lampung Residency. Then the values of character education contained in the material include: religious attitudes, hard work, curiosity, love for the country, nationalism and communicative. These character values can be actualized by students in learning local history in high school. The hope is that students can emulate the figure of a figure from K.H Gholib, especially for those who live in the area of Lampung and apply it to their lives both now and in the future.

Reading, writing, listening, and speaking are four language skills that need to be mastered. The skills include language components: vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and pronounciation. Among the language components, vocabulary become potential to be improved with various medias of learning since vocabulary is one of the main factors to understand a language. Therefore, this research is determined to find out the impacts of using scrabble for learning English vocabulary at Kampung Inggris Pare AEC MAN 2 Kuantan Singingi. The scrabble game can help the students understand vocabulary easily. They have to arrange words using the given letter tiles onto the board game. The method used to do this analysis is qualitative research method due to its suitability for generating the data properly. The result of this research shows that scrabble does not only improve the motivation and interest, but also students’ vocabulary mastery in term of spelling, pronouncing and memorizing of vocabulary, and also gives much contribution to their speaking ability as well. The class can be more enjoyable, and furthermore, such class can make the students enthusiastic and confident to speak English.

The aim of this research is: (1) to know the implementation of the technique of making an English news video to improve students’ Speaking skill, (2) to know the ability of the students non English in improving speaking skill. The research was conducted at students majoring Islamic Communications and Broadcasting of IAIN Surakarta. The researcher used qualitative research method to find out the improvement of the students’ speaking skill. The researcher collected the data through observation, interview, and documentation. The researcher obtained the data during teaching and learning processes. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that: (1) the implementation of making an English News Video gives advantages for students’ in improving speaking skill, especially on communications and broadcasting field; (2) the non-English students got a lot of communications and broadcasting vocabulary, become more active and fearless in making mistake when showing their ideas after doing this research.

Abstract: This study aims to reveal the negative and positive sides of the spread of Covid-19 which does not rule out the possibility of entering the theological high school campus which in this article uses a theological technical term, namely taman didaskalos. Taman didaskalos is a technical term used to refer to the place where the activities of didaskalos (teachers / lecturers and prospective teachers) take place, namely the Theology College campus, especially the Santosa Asih IKSM Theological College. The method used is a qualitative research method using domain taxonomic data analysis. The theory used is the study of Covid-19 and didaskalos which is based on a number of theoretical-theological truths about the two concepts studied, namely Covid and Didaskalos. The findings were that the didaskalos, especially the didaskalos candidates, saw Covid Covid-19 as an enemy, while Covid-19 as a friend still needed deep thinking about Covid-19.  Keywords: Covid-19, Taman,  Didaskalos    Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan sisi negative dan positif dari penyebaran Covid-19 yang tidak menutup kemungkinan dapat memasuki kampus sekolah tinggi teologi yang di dalam artikel ini menggunakan istilah teknis teologis yakni taman didaskalos. Taman didaskalos adalah istilah teknis yang dipakai untuk merujuk pada tempat berlangsungnya kegiatan para didaskalos (guru/dosen dan calon guru) yaitu kampus Sekolah Tinggi Teologi khususnya Sekolah Tinggi Teologi IKSM Santosa Asih. Metode yang dipakai yakni metode penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis data taksonomi domain. Teori yang digunakan yakni kajian tentang Covid-19 dan didaskalos yang didasarkan pada sejumlah kebenaran teoritik-teologis tentang dua konsep yang diteliti yaitu Covid dan didaskalos. Temuannya yakni para didaskalos khususnya calon didaskalos memandang Covid  Covid-19 sebagai musuh, sementara Covid-19 sebagai kawan masih memerlukan pemikiran yang mendalam tentang Covid-19.    Kata Kunci: Covid-19, Taman,  Didaskalos
