Today, Google Maps API application based on Ajax technology as standard web service; facilitate users with publication interactive web maps, thus opening new possibilities in relation to the classical analogue maps. CORINE land cover databases are recognized as the fundamental reference data sets for numerious spatial analysis. The theoretical and applicable aspects of Google Maps API cartographic service are considered on the case of creating web map of change in urban areas in Belgrade and surround from 2000. to 2006. year, obtained from CORINE databases.

Validating the accuracy of land cover products using a reliable reference dataset is an important task. A reliable reference dataset is produced with information derived from ground truth data. Recently, the amount of ground truth data derived from information collected by volunteers has been increasing globally. The acquisition of volunteer-based reference data demonstrates great potential. However information given by volunteers is limited useful vegetation information to produce a complete reference dataset based on the plant functional type (PFT) with five specialized forest classes. In this study, we examined the availability and applicability of FLUXNET information to produce reference data with higher levels of reliability. FLUXNET information was useful especially for forest classes for interpretation in comparison with the reference dataset using information given by volunteers.

At present, the common Web map service only supports browse and query, but does not support vector data publishing. This paper proposed a WebGIS construction method based on Google Maps, which supports the interoperation and spatial analysis of vector data of many browsers. Aiming at the land utilization information publishing requirement in Zhengzhou City, adopting B/S frame, with the help of Google Maps API and AJAX technology, we realized a systematized and standardized publishing platform for land utilization information. This platform has a fast response speed, faces various types of users, supports data sharing and can provide a better service for studies on land utilization change and decision-making on land consolidation.

AbstractExtensive studies have highlighted a need for frequently consistent land cover information for interdisciplinary studies. This paper proposes a comprehensive framework for the automatic production of the first Vietnam-wide annual land use/land cover (LULC) data sets (VLUCDs) from 1990 to 2020, using available remotely sensed and inventory data. Classification accuracies ranged from 85.7 ± 1.3 to 92.0 ± 1.2% with the primary dominant LULC and 77.6 ± 1.2% to 84.7 ± 1.1% with the secondary dominant LULC. This confirmed the potential of the proposed framework for systematically long-term monitoring LULC in Vietnam. Results reveal that despite slight recoveries in 2000 and 2010, the net loss of forests (19,940 km2) mainly transformed to croplands over 30 years. Meanwhile, productive croplands were converted to urban areas, which increased approximately ten times. A threefold increase in aquaculture was a major driver of the wetland loss (1914 km2). The spatial–temporal changes varied, but the most dynamic regions were the western north, the southern centre, and the south. These findings can provide evidence-based information on formulating and implementing coherent land management policies. The explicitly spatio-temporal VLUCDs can be benchmarks for global LULC validation, and utilized for a variety of applications in the research of environmental changes towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

The recent increase in urban areas has stimulated landscape urbanization. One of the ways to study this process is an analysis based on the structure of land cover. The aim of this paper is to assess the intensity of the urban landscape on the basis of the CORINE in the seven largest metropolitan areas in Poland and in the Ruhr Metropolis in Germany. To this end, an urban landscape intensity indicator (ULII) was used based on Corine Land Cover at three levels of detail: the metropolitan area, municipalities and hexagons. There are similarities in landscape structure in areas with similar origin (industrial function) and spatial organization (mono- and polycentric agglomerations). The landscape of the Upper Silesia-Zagłębie Metropolis differs from the landscape of other metropolitan areas in Poland and simultaneously shows similarities to the landscape of the Ruhr Metropolis. The results of the ULII also revealed a dependency: the dominance of rural and transitional landscapes in a majority of the study areas. Urban landscapes occur only in the central zones of the metropolitan areas. This proves that determining the range of a metropolitan area in terms of landscape factors is different from doing it with formal or legal ones.

Abstract. Traditionally the accuracy assessment of a hard raster-based land use land cover (LULC) map uses a reference data set that contains one LULC class per pixel, which is the class that has the largest area in each pixel. However, when mixed pixels exist in the reference data, this is a simplification of reality that has implications for both the accuracy assessment and subsequent applications of LULC maps, such as area estimation. This paper demonstrates how the use of class proportions in the reference data set can be used easily within regular accuracy assessment procedures and how the use of class proportions can affect the final accuracy assessment. Using the CORINE land cover map (CLC) and the more detailed Urban Atlas (UA), two accuracy assessments of the raster version of CLC were undertaken using UA as the reference and considering for each pixel: (i) the class proportions retained from the UA; and (ii) the class with the majority area. The results show that for the study area and the classes considered here, all accuracy indices decrease when the class proportions are considered in the reference database, achieving a maximum difference of 16% between the two approaches. This demonstrates that if the UA is considered as representing reality, then the true accuracy of CLC is lower than the value obtained when using the reference data set that assigns only one class to each pixel. Arguments for and against using class proportions in reference data sets are then provided and discussed.

The Corine Land Cover (CLC) is a digital data about land cover which is distributed into 44 classes whereas for the territory of Bulgaria the CLC classes are 36. The minimal mapping unit is 25 hectares (for 2D objects and 100 m for linear objects). Data sets for the years 1990, 2000, 2006, 2012, and 2018 are available, as well as for the changes which have occurred between each couple of years (1990–2000, 2000–2006, 2006–2012, and 2012–2018). The great data sets provide to track over a nearly 30-year period of land cover changes in model karst regions which are strongly vulnerable to anthropogenic and natural influences. This paper considers the changes in the land cover types on the Devetashko plateau – a typical karst plateau in North Bulgaria. Land cover and land use changes affect directly the processes of modern karst-genesis, the soil-vegetation cover, the quantity and quality of underground karst waters.

A numerical method for the identification of parameters of nonlinear higher order differential equations is presented, which is based on the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. The estimation of the parameters can be performed by using several reference data sets simultaneously. This leads to a multicriteria optimization problem, which will be treated by using the Pareto optimality concept. In this paper, the emphasis is put on the presentation of the calibration method. As an example identification of the parameters of a nonlinear hydrological transport model for urban runoff is included, but the method can be applied to other problems as well.

Urban expansion is a dynamic and complex phenomenon, often involving adverse changes in land use and land cover (LULC). This paper uses satellite imagery from Landsat-5 TM, Landsat-8 OLI, Sentinel-2 MSI, and GIS technology to analyse LULC changes in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. The research was carried out in Opole, the capital of the Opole Agglomeration (south-western Poland). Maps produced from supervised spectral classification of remote sensing data revealed that in 20 years, built-up areas have increased about 40%, mainly at the expense of agricultural land. Detection of changes in the spatial pattern of LULC showed that the highest average rate of increase in built-up areas occurred in the zone 3–6 km (11.7%) and above 6 km (10.4%) from the centre of Opole. The analysis of the increase of built-up land in relation to the decreasing population (SDG 11.3.1) has confirmed the ongoing process of demographic suburbanisation. The paper shows that satellite imagery and GIS can be a valuable tool for local authorities and planners to monitor the scale of urbanisation processes for the purpose of adapting space management procedures to the changing environment.
