Thematic study is an area in any literary study that cannot be easily overlooked. It is an area that cuts across the three major genres of literature. This paper examines the literary text Ajo Obi which is written by I.G. Nwaozuzu in form of drama with the view of studying the theme of infidelity as portrayed in the text. This work aims at showing the ambiguity of the claim of innocence by the accused in the text. It also brings to light how cultural divergence brings about different interpretations of an action. The data for this study are drawn from intensive study of the literary text Ajo Obi. Following a qualitative research paradigm the study adopts reader response approach in its analysis. Findings show that there is a kind of uncertainty in the claim of innocence by the accused in the text. Again cultural divergence is also found to bring about differences in interpretation of an action.

In the past decade or so, a small but rapidly growing band of literary scholars, theorists, and critics has been working to integrate literary study with Darwinian social science. These scholars can be identified as the members of a distinct school in the sense that they share a certain broad set of basic ideas. They all take “the adapted mind” as an organizing principle, and their work is thus continuous with that of the “adaptationist program” in the social sciences. Adaptationist thinking is grounded in Darwinian conceptions of human nature (2004, p. 6).

Among many New Testament texts concerning the paschal events the appearances of the Risen Christ are mentioned. They fit right in between the Old Testament theophanies and Christ’s second coming, as in a way they crown the past, earthly being of Jesus of Nazareth and anticipate His coming again in glory. The author of this article – as suggested by the title – is interested in the meeting of the Risen Christ with seven disciples on Lake Tiberias shore described in Jn 21: 1-14. He neither intends to present an exhaustive exegesis, nor to carry out a critical, literary study of the quoted chapter. He passes over the question of the text’s authorship and origin as well.Instead he indicates the problems one sees while reading the pericope, presents the possible ways to solve them and discovers the meaning of the text. The issue of the article is discussed at two stages: first the reader gets aquainted with the structure of christophany’s description, next the symbolic meaning of the text is presented on the basis of some parallel texts and existing traditions. Many issues related to this particular text remain more or less probable assumptions. Opinions of different exegesists and theologians are to a large degree based on their attitude to the whole of paschal events. It is therefore impossible – according to the author – to reach an unquestionable solution. However, there is no doubt that the appearances of Jesus became crucial in leading the apostles to true faith in the reality of resurrection. They also became the object of testimonies of those whose preaching was fundamental for the faith of the whole Church. The first christophany – as the one from Lake Tiberias can be considered the first – is of great significance here. The author hopes that the present article may be a good example of various difficulties that can be found by everyone who tries to fathom the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ, which the christophany from the last chapter of John’s gospel is an inseparable part of.

The concept that God is as unjust as the society is so eloquently portrayed in Countee Cullen’s poems “Yet Do I Marvel’’ and “Incident”. Cullen accuses God of being unjust by making him a poet. The renowned poet does not exonerate his American society from the indictment based on racial hostilities and insensitivity that seemed to have permeated the milieu. This paper addresses the questions of the indictment, racial intolerance and the significance of Cullen’s poetry to American literature. To achieve the objective of this study, the author adopts interpretive literary study and The Reader-Response approach to analyze the selected poems. The study reveals that Cullen’s poetry like other genres lives in timeless performance, is therapeutic, is a strong vehicle for the mobilization of people, and a tool for protest. The study concludes that Countee Cullen uses his poetry to indict God and American society. From the analysis of the selected poems, it is observed that poetry lives with people, is a weapon for change in any Nation and Cullen’s poetry addresses the contemporary needs of a society. His accusation of God and American society is a concern and seems relevant. What matter most is equality, justice and love for humanity? All these ingredients must emanate from the heart and transcend color for any society to attain oneness.

AbstractThe marginalization of the humanities, while depressing, has at least provoked literary scholars into rethinking what they do and foregrounding the relevance of their research. The spike of interest in the economic humanities illustrates one path for making literary study more legible. To that end, several trends emerge in recent economic-themed literary scholarship. One trend of establishing the salience of humanistic scholarship proceeds by locating the origins of present concerns, such as the corporate takeover of democracy, in the past. While that approach is exciting and engaging, care must be taken not to flatten out differences between historical periods. A second salutary trend of making the humanities more intelligible develops interventionist and activist modes of scholarship—for instance, in the interest of making the economy more equitable, and by suggesting alternatives to current impasses. Through such approaches, the economic humanities can help demystify the epistemology of capitalism, the mental barrier determining what is and is not thinkable.

This paper is a form of literary study of Islamic law related to the interpretation of truth from two groups, namely Radical Muslims and Moderate Muslims. Radical Muslims construct narratives of "imagined Islam", both as a mythology of the past and a future utopia. They are aggressive and speak out loud in expressing their religious understanding, so that the impact becomes acts of violence and terror. In contrast to moderate Muslims, with a narrative of harmony that Islam is compromised with the local context of society, with the aim of realizing God's mercy and compassion for all human beings. The nature of compassion and moderation which are the basic values of Islamic law must always be fought for against other Muslim groups who have violent and fierce faces. Furthermore, this paper wants to reveal the point of issue which is the source of interpretation between moderates and radicals in defining the meaning of "the truth of the Islamic faith" in applying God's laws on earth.

Since the linguistic turn of New Criticism and the advent of reader-response approaches in the previous century, the category of history has come under pressure in biblical interpretation. New developments in general historiography have also emphasised that the past is forever past, and that only constructions of the past remain. These developments bring many to the conclusion that the past offers no assistance in the interpretation process. In my paper I would like to re-emphasise that historical consciousness does not mean an anachronistic clinging to something which no longer exists, but rather refers to the ability to sense the multidimensionality of interpretation, particularly in the case of ancient biblical texts.

AbstractStylistics is a branch from linguistics and an outcome of linguistics. It comes from the classic rhetoric despite the claim of some of the western researches that it was a o Western and European product. On the contrary, Arab researchers viewed it as an offshoot of the classic rhetoric, linguistics and traditional criticism. But this view was held back since years ago until it developed with the progress of contemporary linguistics flourishing itself under those banners. It further consolidated with other disciplines such as psycholinguistic  and sociolinguistic, to name a few. This article chooses rhetoric from among the disciplines related to stylistics among other knowledge that has a link with stylistics, and it discovers the similarities. It endeavors to uncover the differences between them to establish the close relation between the two through applied studies, literary study of surah taha. It discusses about the impact of rhetorical analysis and stylistic analysis in uncovering the secrets of the Al-Qur’an Al-kareem. Among the most important results that has been discovered in this article are: Rhetoric has a role in literature analysis but it is narrow and restricted compared to stylistics which has a wider range with the inclusion of rhetoric as one of its branch. Keywords: Stylistics - Rhetoric - Similarities - Differences – Applied Studies.
