ABSTRACTIn this paper we report the effect of low temperature annealing on the high field magnetotransport properties of epitaxial thin films of (Ga, Mn)As Dilute Magnetic Semiconductor (DMS) with low concentration (1.5 %) of Mn doping, which results in a ferromagnetic insulator. Annealing at an optimal temperature enhances the conductivity, carrier concentration, and ferromagnetic transition temperature. The field dependence of magnetoresistance is different below and above the ferromagnetic transition temperature. An attempt is made to analyze the data using a theoretical model proposed by Kaminski and Das Sarma [1].

The results of the phase relations near ternary eutectic point in the Ag-In-Sb system are investigated in this paper. Phase equilibrium calculation was done using Thermocalc software and experimental DTA results for the chosen alloys in the isopleths with molar ration of In:Sb = 7:3; 9:1 and 1:1. The structural characteristics of these alloys have been investigated using light optic microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, while hardness measurements have also been done. Solidification path for three ternary alloys located on three different investigated isopleths was calculated using Pandat software.

Solidification experiment a graphite mold was carried out on ternary alloy Al-4.61Cu-0.92Si and typical dendrite microstructure was obtained. The influence of heat treatment on microsegregation between the dendrite, and the amount and morphology of the non-equilibrium eutectic phases were studied. Line scans results shows that the dendrite microsegregation disappeared after heat treatment under temperature near the ternary eutectic point. And the amount of eutectic phases is decreased obviously and the morphology of most θ-phase is changed from normal pattern to sphere or nearly spherical.

The solidification path of Al-Cu-Si alloys in the Al-rich corner are investigated. The thermodynamic data needed in the calculation are obtained by direct coupling with the CALPHAD software Thermo-Calc. A paralell experimental investigation is conducted to validate the prediction results. The calculated results show that, the sensitivity of the variations in the solidification paths to the cooling rates are depended on the distance of the initial compositions from the binary eutectic troughs or the ternary eutectic point. Reasonable agreements are observed between the predicted amounts of θ-phase and the measured results.

Low temperature annealing (<400°C) of YBa2Cu3O7x in a ozone containing oxygen atmosphere is sometimes carried out to oxygenate oxygen deficient thin films. Also, this technique can be used to fully oxygenate thinned TEM specimens when oxygen depletion in thin regions is suspected. However, the effects on the microstructure nor the extent of oxygenation of specimens has not been documented for specimens exposed to an ozone atmosphere. A particular concern is the fact that the ozone gas is so reactive and the oxygen diffusion rate at these temperatures is so slow that it may damage the specimen by an over-reaction. Thus we report here the results of an investigation on the microstructural effects of exposing a thinned YBa2Cu3O7-x specimen in an ozone atmosphere using transmission electron microscopy and energy loss spectroscopy techniques.

AbstractThis study investigated the impact of the equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) combined with heat treatments on the microstructure and mechanical properties of AlSi10Mg alloys fabricated via selective laser melting (SLM) and gravity casting. Special attention was directed towards determining the effect of post-fabrication heat treatments on the microstructural evolution of AlSi10Mg alloy fabricated using two different routes. Three initial alloy conditions were considered prior to ECAP deformation: (1) as-cast in solution treated (T4) condition, (2) SLM in T4 condition, (3) SLM subjected to low-temperature annealing. Light microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction line broadening analysis, and electron backscattered diffraction analysis were used to characterize the microstructures before and after ECAP. The results indicated that SLM followed by low-temperature annealing led to superior mechanical properties, relative to the two other conditions. Microscopic analyses revealed that the partial-cellular structure contributed to strong work hardening. This behavior enhanced the material’s strength because of the enhanced accumulation of geometrically necessary dislocations during ECAP deformation.
