Hydraulic oil is the key medium for the normal operation of hydraulic machinery, which carries various wear debris. The information reflected by the wear debris can be used to predict the early failure of equipment and achieve predictive maintenance. In order to realize the real-time condition monitoring of hydraulic oil, an impedance debris sensor that can detect inductance and resistance parameters is designed and studied in this paper. The material and size of wear debris can be discriminated based on inductance-resistance detection method. Silicon steel strips and two rectangular channels are designed in the sensor. The silicon steel strips are used to enhance the magnetic field strength, and the double rectangular detection channels can make full use of the magnetic field distribution region, thereby improving the detection sensitivity and throughput of the sensor. The comparison experiment shows that the coils in series are more suitable for the monitoring of wear debris. By comparing and analyzing the direction and the presence or absence of the signal pulses, the debris sensor can detect and distinguish 46 µm iron particles and 110 µm copper particles. This impedance detection method provides a new technical support for the high-precision distinguishing measurement of metal debris. The sensor can not only be used for oil detection in the laboratory, but also can be made into portable oil detection device for machinery health monitoring.

The effect of high magnetic field annealing on the nucleation sites for recrystallized nuclei with {111}<112> orientation in the initial stage of recrystallization in as-annealed interstitial-free (IF) steel sheet were investigated by the SEM-EBSD analysis. Specimens of cold rolled IF steel sheet were annealed at 650°C for 0min and 10min respectively with a 12-tesla magnetic field to obtain a partially recrystallized microstructure. During the magnetic field annealing, they were respectively placed at the center of the applied field with their rolling planes parallel to the magnetic field direction (MD), and with their rolling direction (RD) parallel and normal to the MD, respectively. It was found that different to the non-field annealed specimen, in the field annealed specimens, the {111}<112> oriented recrystallized nulei favored to nucleate in the {111}<112> deformed matrix and not in the {111}<110> deformed matrix. This phenomenon may be attributed to the magnetic ordered state induced by the magnetic field, which might suppress the formation of high-energy grain boundaries between the newly formed nuclei and the deformed matrix.

The cold-rolled pure copper sheets were annealed with and without a high magnetic field of 12 T. The results showed that the magnetic annealing could promote the formation of the initial recrystallized cube texture. The magnetic annealing did not dramatically change the final annealing textures, but the intensity of the recrystallized cube texture is obviously different. The differences of the recrystallized cube orientation intensity between the specimens with and without the field annealing may be attributed to the effects of the magnetic field on the mobility of grain boundaries.

This paper describes a simple method of approximating hysteresis changes in electrical steel sheets. This method is based on assumptions that flux density or field strength changes are a sum or a difference of functions that describe one curve of the limiting hysteresis loop and a certain ‘transient’ component. Appropriate formulas that present the flux density as functions of the field strength and those that present inverse dependencies are proposed. An application of this approximation requires knowledge of the measured limiting hysteresis loop and a few minor loops. Algorithms for determining changes in the flux density or field strength are proposed and discussed. The correctness of the proposed approximation of hysteresis changes was verified through a comparison of measured hysteresis loops with the loops calculated for several different excitations of the magnetic field occurring in dynamo and transformer steel sheets. Additionally, an example of the application of the proposed approximation of hysteresis changes is discussed in the paper. The proposed approximation of hysteresis changes is recommended for numerical calculations of the magnetic field distribution in dynamo and transformer steel sheets.
