Origin–destination flow maps are a popular option to visualize connections between different spatial locations, where specific routes between the origin and destination are unknown or irrelevant. Visualizing origin–destination flows is challenging mainly due to visual clutter which appears quickly as data sets grow. Clutter reduction techniques are intensively explored in the information visualization and cartography domains. However, current automatic techniques for origin–destination flow visualization, such as edge bundling, are not available in geographic information systems which are widely used to visualize spatial data, such as origin–destination flows. In this article, we explore the applicability of edge bundling to spatial data sets and necessary adaptations under the constraints inherent to platform-independent geographic information system scripting environments. We propose (1) a new clustering technique for origin–destination flows that provides within-cluster consistency to speed up computations, (2) an edge bundling approach based on force-directed edge bundling employing matrix computations, (3) a new technique to determine the local strength of a bundle leveraging spatial indexes, and (4) a geographic information system–based technique to spatially offset bundles describing different flow directions. Finally, we evaluate our method by applying it to origin–destination flow data sets with a wide variety of different data characteristics.

The development of applying database management applications is currently underway within Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications in the Sultanate of Oman. The establishment of a national database management system in Oman is considered as the backbone that is required within the Geographic Information System project in Oman. The principal of the GIS project in Oman was built upon unifying the used software packages over the sultanate which is ARC/INFO as GIS Package and ORACLE as database management software. These packages are used within the different participating Ministries in the GIS project in Oman. The participating ministries will handle information that are shared between them. The shared information among the different ministries is the attributed data which is defined as descriptive information extracted from geographic features that usually existed on the topographic maps and the ministries maps (utility maps). The map features can be classified into different layers according to the principles of ARC/INFO GIS Package. Accordingly, the main objectives of this research paper is to explain the technique proposed for establishing a national database management system that can handle and manage the shared information amongst the participating ministries in the project. The proposed database design will be made using the ORACLE database management system. Moreover, the paper will handle a proposed idea for linking the geographic map layers with the corresponding attributed database in order to create Geographic Information System applications. As a Conclusion, it is Proposed that all the government GIS departments in the Sultanate will share the same information within a unique national database management which can be considered one of the major benefits in applying database management in the field of Geographic Information Systems.

The North Maluku Wiratama Polytechnic of Science and Technology is a Private campus located in Ternate City, Jati Ternate District, South Ternate, which annually has a large number of alumni graduates and alumni data. However, the data is not maximized because it is not processed more further to be informed and, mainly, for students not knowing information about alumni's specific distribution. After all, there is no system to do this. To overcome these problems, we can utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, where GIS can present information in graphical form using maps as an interface so that alumni's distribution can be explicitly known. This study aims to develop a GIS Web-Based Alumni Data Information System (Geographic Information System) at the North Maluku Wiratama Science and Technology Polytechnic. This research was carried out at the North Maluku Wiratama Science and Technology Polytechnic. Research data collection using documentation and interviews. This study's results can help and make it easier for Wiratama students to find out the distribution systems of Wiratama alumni. Keywords: Information Systems, Alumni Data, Gis Web-Based

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computerized database management system for accumulating, storage, retrieval, analysis, and display spatial data. In general, GIS contains two broad categories of information, geo-referenced spatial data and attribute data. Geo-referenced spatial data define objects that have an orientation and relationship in two or three-dimensional space, while attribute data is qualitative data that can be counted for recording and analysis. The main aim of this research is to reveal the role of GIS technology in the enhancement of bridge maintenance management system components such as the output results, and make it more interpretable through dynamic colour coding and more sophisticated visualization techniques than the conventional tabular data format. To achieve the main objective of this research, two study areas have been chosen: the old constructionbridge (Al-Qadisiyah bridge) and the newly constructed bridge (Barboty bridge). Both of them are in Al-Muthanna city \ Iraq. The data collection process was achieved in two stages: the first stage is providing a georeferenced satellite image for each study area for the purpose of producing a two-dimensional map. The second stage includes the field surveying process by total station and level instruments. GIS have been used to create a comprehensive database (Geodatabase) for both study areas. Geostatistical analysis was carried out in which the settlement areas of both study areas were defined by producing a colour image. The statistical tables for these analyses showed that the highest decline in the elevation reached at Al-Qadisiyah bridge to 19 mm in the middle of the bridge which is coloured as a red areas. On the other hand, it was found that the highest decline in the elevation of the Barboty bridge is 16 mm in the last part of steel space which is also coloured as a red areas.

The chapter presents the geographic information systems. A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system that allows various sources to gather and organize, manage, analyze and combine, develop, and present geographically located information contributing in particular to the management from space. A geographic information system is also a database management system for entering, storing, retrieving, querying, analyzing, and displaying localized data. It is a set of data located in space, structured so that it can conveniently extract syntheses useful to the decision.

One of the most common cases of disease in Indonesia is dengue hemorrhagic fever. Jombang region is one of the areas whose people are infected with dengue fever because every year there must be cases and cases that occur is also high. Various efforts have been made to prevent the spread of the disease. Among the 3M program (Drain, Closing, and Bury), fumigation (fogging) in each area that is endemic DHF. But still there are victims, even increasing from the years. From these problems is also required system capable of providing relief. With this problem then built a Web-Based Geographic Information System that can help people to know the actual spread of dengue fever. Geographic Information System is a collection of computer systems that store, process, manipulate, analyze geography data into quality information related to geographic objects. Within the Geographic Information System itself there are two important elements of Geographic Data used as a reference for attribute data, and the attribute data itself used to support spatial or geographical information. The design of the map to be displayed in this application using Google Maps API, while the methodology in the development of this system using waterfall method that includes system analysis, system design, system implementation and testing. In making this Web-based Geographic Information System uses MySQL as database to store the required data and use PHP as the programming language.
