The acquisition of procedural and conceptual knowledge is imperative for the development of problem solving skills in mathematics. However, while there are mixed research findings on the relationship between the two domains of knowledge in some branches of mathematics, the relationship between learners’ procedural and conceptual knowledge of algebra has not been well explored. This research paper examined the relationship between Grade 11 learners’ procedural and conceptual knowledge of algebra. Data for the study was collected using an algebra test administered to 181 grade 11 learners in Gauteng province, South Africa. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were used to analyse the data in SPSS. The study revealed that the learners have low levels of both procedural and conceptual knowledge of algebra. However, they displayed better procedural knowledge than the conceptual knowledge of algebra. In addition, a statistically significant moderate positive linear relationship was found between the learners’ procedural and conceptual knowledge of algebra.

The study was conducted to determine the attitude of extension staff towards agricultural extension work, examine the nature of the relationship between farmers and agricultural extension staff, examine the scope of farmers’ satisfaction with services provided by extension workers, and determine the challenges affecting effective relationship between farmers and agricultural extension staff in Kura Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria. The population of the study was 2567 registered farmers and 8 qualified Extension workers. Questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. 80 respondents were used as the sampling frame. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics i.e. percentage and frequency count. The research findings revealed that there is strong positive relationship between behavior of Agricultural Extension Workers and farmers satisfaction, the findings of the study indicated, among others, that the challenges affecting relationship between the farmers and the Extension Staff in the study area included staff inadequacy, slow process and the attitude of the Extension Workers toward Agricultural Extension exercise included dedication to duty, positive manners, among the others. Additionally, the findings indicated that the nature of the relationship between the farmers and Agricultural Extension Workers was based on Extension workers farm visit, response to request and enquiries by the farmers and friendliness to the farmers. It is therefore, recommended that the number of Extension workers should be added and welfare package of the Extension Workers should be improved to avoid delay in the process, to mention but a few.

Research  background  and  hypothesis.  Previous  research  has  proved  that  children  engaged  in  sports  easier integrate into the society and their psychological well-being is much higher,  sports activities can help them resist to the harmful influence of their peers and prevent them from engaging into delinquent behavior. However, there still is a lack of a studies providing evidence about factors that determine the expression of compulsion. Hypothesis: The level of self-esteem and self-confidence of adolescent athletes influences the occurrence of bullying and the initiation of it.  Research  aim  was  to  disclose  the  relationship  between  the  level  of  adolescent  athletes’  self-esteem,  self-confidence and the occurrence of bullying.Research methods. The study applied I. Shostrom’s modified self-esteem scale questionnaire and the adapted Bullying Scale for Schoolchildren. Research  results.  Results  showed  a  weak  correlation  between  bullying  and  self-esteem  levels  (γ =  0.24; p > 0.05). We found a weak adverse relationship between initiating bullying and self-assessment levels (γ = –0.16; p > 0.05), weak adverse correlation between experienced bullying and self-confidence levels (γ = –0.15; p > 0.05) and a weak linear relationship between initiating bullying and self-confidence (γ = 0.20; p > 0.05).Discussion and conclusions. Contrary to what we expected, we observed that athlete adolescents with the high levels of self-esteem suffered from bullying sometimes and often. Research findings suggest that adolescents who tend to initiate bullying demonstrated moderate and low levels of self-esteem. Most of athlete adolescents admitted that that did not initiate bullying or if they did, that was done only occasionally. It was found that adolescents with high and moderate self-confidence levels experienced bullying occasionally or not at all. Some athletes with low self-confidence levels professed that they suffered from bullying more often, and they also admitted that they often initiated bullying themselves. In our research we were unable failed to provide evidence which would prove that sports activities impacted or influenced adolescents’ bullying initiatives or experiences; therefore further research is needed to determine whether self-esteem and other internal personality qualities could affect the expression of bullying among non-athlete adolescents.Keywords: aggression, adolescents’ self- assessment, self-confidence.

In design and development study, a need analysis needs to be carried out to ensure that the learning module for retention of conceptual and procedural knowledge to be developed can meet the needs of the study target. A need analysis has been conducted to identify the Form 1 topics that students find difficult, moderate difficult and most difficult to learn, examine students’ perceptions on the difficulties they encounter in learning Mathematics and examine students’ perceptions on the characteristics of module that they want into retaining conceptual and procedural knowledge of Form 1 Mathematics topics learnt. The respondents of this study consisted of 150 Form 1 students and 150 Form 2 students. Data collection was done using questionnaire form. The results of descriptive statistics analysis showed Linear Equation as the most difficult topic, Algebraic Expressions as moderate difficult topic and Linear Inequality as difficult topic to be learnt in Form 1 Mathematics. As for the difficulties students encounter in learning Mathematics, the results of descriptive analysis found that students faced difficulties in terms of procedural and conceptual knowledge mastery, remembering and recalling. In addition, characteristics of module that students want into retaining conceptual and procedural knowledge of Form 1 Mathematics topics learnt indicated that the respondents’ consent level were Very High for most of the proposed module features. The implication of this study informed the researcher on what to consider when developing a learning module to retain conceptual and procedural knowledge of Form 1 Mathematics topics.

Creative under pressure: The role of time pressure, creative requirements and creative orientation in creative behavior Creative under pressure: The role of time pressure, creative requirements and creative orientation in creative behavior The increasing turbulence within and around organizations requires employees to work harder and be more creative. This study investigated the relationship between time pressure and creative behaviour, and the role of creativity demands and creative orientation in it. Based on current literature, we predicted that time pressure and creative behaviour would show a curvilinear relationship. Creativity demands and creative orientation were assumed to have a positive linear relationship with creative behaviour and also to moderate the hypothesized curvilinear relationship. The results (N = 192) did not confirm the expected curvilinear relationship between time pressure and creative behaviour. However, we did find a linear positive relationship between time pressure and creative behaviour, while – as expected – creativity demands and creative orientation were positively related to creative behaviour. Moreover, indications were found of an interaction between time pressure and creativity demands: at low levels of creativity demands, time pressure and creative behaviour were positively associated, while at high levels of creativity demands, there was no significant relationship between these variables. Several avenues for future research are presented.

Conceptual knowledge is one of the mathematical knowledge areas which should be mastered by mathematics teachers besides factual, procedural, and metacognitive knowledge. Teachers are prone to cast conceptual knowledge aside and prioritise procedural knowledge without understanding the concepts which influence the options of mathematical strategies and models in the context of problem solving. A literature review was conducted to discuss past research findings in identifying secondary school teachers' conceptual knowledge in the algebra topic. 68 past research articles were referred to and chosen based on the research purpose which was to investigate mathematics teachers' conceptual knowledge level and its implementation in several mathematical topics quantitatively and qualitatively in local and international contexts.  There have been a lot of researches conducted on teachers' conceptual knowledge in several mathematical topics, however there is still a lack of research in investigating teachers' conceptual knowledge on the algebra topic. Most of the past research findings showed that the teachers' conceptual knowledge level was at a low level in several mathematical  topics therefore a similar research is also needed in the algebra topic. This study can be extended to a more improved research in spite of the research sample, design or research methodology, instruments, and other factors.

This study aimed at determining the impact of corporate control on capital structure of Nairobi Securities listed firms. Capital structure decision contribute significantly to creating and growing firm’s value and wealth maximization for shareholders while corporate control is believed to be key influencer of the quality of such decision. The paper tested the hypothesis that there is no significant influence of corporate control on capital structure. Trade-off theory is the anchoring theory. Regression analysis and correlation analysis were applied to test the hypotheses. The key study variables of the listed companies were subjected to descriptive statistics and the results revealed a significant positive linkage between the variables. The findings were in line with previous research findings and also provided further insight on the impact of self-determining variable, corporate control on the capital structure. The study has also applied important mechanism in CCI to study the influence of corporate control on capital structure which has provided new insight on the relationship thereby enriching the result.

The authors explore an alternative way of analyzing the relationship between human development and individualism. The method is based on the first principal component of Hofstede's individualism index in the Human Development Index rating domain. Results suggest that the general idea that greater wealth brings more individualism is only true for countries with high levels of development, while for middle or low levels of development the inverse is true.

Abstract. This study examines the relationship between students' personality and intelligence scores with their preferences for the personality profile of their lecturers. Student ratings (N = 136) of 30 lecturer trait characteristics were coded into an internally reliable Big Five taxonomy ( Costa & McCrae, 1992 ). Descriptive statistics showed that, overall, students tended to prefer conscientious, open, and stable lecturers, though correlations revealed that these preferences were largely a function of students' own personality traits. Thus, open students preferred open lecturers, while agreeable students preferred agreeable lecturers. There was evidence of a similarity effect for both Agreeableness and Openness. In addition, less intelligent students were more likely to prefer agreeable lecturers than their more intelligent counterparts were. A series of regressions showed that individual differences are particularly good predictors of preferences for agreeable lecturers, and modest, albeit significant, predictors of preferences for open and neurotic lecturers. Educational and vocational implications are considered.
