Segregation pattern of the Soybean Stunt Virus resistant character and genetic diversity of F2:3 families derived from crosses between Orba and B3570.  Soybean stunt disease caused by SSV (Soybean Stunt Virus) is the most destructive soybean disease in Indonesia. This research was conducted from October 2005 to June 2006 at experiment station of Lampung University.  The aims of this research were to evaluate the segregation of resistant characters and total genetic diversity of eight populations of F2:3  families. Experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The resistance was evaluated based on the score of disease severity.  The results showed that the resistant characters segregate 1:2:1 to susceptible, moderately resistant, and resistant, respectively based on  the segregation pattern. The resistant character was controlled by single gene and the action of the gene is noncompletely dominant gene.  Eight populations of F2:3 families have high diversities on the yield and yield components.

An experiment was carried out at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the effect of urea super granule (USG) as a source of nitrogen on the yield and yield components of transplant Aman rice cv. BRRI dhan39, BRRI dhan46 and BINA dhan7. Five levels of N (viz., 0, 60, 120 kg ha-1 as prilled urea and 60 and 120 kg ha-1 as USG) were taken as experimental treatments. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Plant height, effective tillers hill-1, grains panicle-1 and grain yield varied significantly due to different cultivars. All the yield and yield components except 1000-grain weight were influenced significantly by the levels of nitrogen fertilizer. The highest grain yield (4.82 t ha-1) was recorded in BINA dhan7 and the lowest one (4.30 t ha-1) was recorded in BRRI dhan39. Nitrogen @ 120 kg ha-1 as USG performed the best among the treatments in respect of yield and yield components of rice. The highest grain yield (5.46t ha-1) was obtained from BINA dhan7 with 120 kg N ha-1 as USG which was statistically identical with 60 kg N ha-1 as USG. A considerable amount (31.25%) of prilled urea (PU) nitrogen could be saved by using USG. It may be concluded that USG could be used as N management to achieve better nitrogen use efficiency in reducing N loss than the PU.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/pa.v24i1-2.19095 Progress. An experiment was conducted to evaluate effect of urea fertilizer on yield and yield components of Zea mays L. Using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) split plots in three replications in agricultural research farm of Balkh University by 2019. Doses of urea used in this experiment were 0, 80, 160 and 240 kg ha-1 , respectively. It has been found that amount of nitrogen fertilizer (urea) had significant effect on yield of maize at p<0.05. The higher level of nitrogen caused the higher grain yield, number of kernels per ear, the number of grains per ear row, ear diameter, cob length, grain per plant and plant height. As a result 7.76 ton ha-1 was recorded as high yield while 240 kg ha-1 urea was used, and 5.12 ton ha-1 was recorded as low yield in treatment one with 0 kg ha-1 of nitrogen fertilizer. Finally, as a result using 240 kg ha-1 nitrogen fertilizer is recommended.

A field study was conducted in order to evaluate the effects of intercropping and biofertilizers on yield and yield components of purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) and dragon’s head (Lallemantia iberica Fisch. and C.A. Mey). The experiment was factorial on the basis of a randomized complete block design with three replications. The first factor was an additive intercropping system including monocultured purslane, monocultured dragon’s head, intercropping of 100% purslane + 25% dragon’s head, intercropping of 100% purslane + 50% dragon’s head, intercropping of 100% purslane + 75% dragon’s head; the second factor was nutrient treatments including application of 50% inorganic N fertilizer (urea) + nitroxin, inorganic N fertilizer (urea), nitroxin and no fertilizer. Results showed that as the density of dragon’s head increased, the number of branches in purslane decreased. In purslane, the number of capsules was significantly affected by intercropping and application of biofertilizers. In both crops, the effects of treatments on yield were significant. Results clearly showed that Relative Yield Total (RYT) was always higher in intercropping than monocultured systems. The highest RYT was observed in intercropping of 100% purslane + 50% dragon’s head with the application of 50% inorganic N fertilizer (urea) + nitroxin. Therefore, combination usage of biofertilizers and inorganic N fertilizers can improve yields in purslane/dragon’s head intercropping.

Teff is a major staple cereal crop in Ethiopia. However, its productivity is limited due to lack of appropriate sowing methods and utilization of improper seed rate are among the major once. Hence, a field experiment was conducted in Kiltu Kara District to determine the effects of seed rate and row spacing on yield and yield components of teff. Four levels of seed rates (10, 15, 20 and 25 kg ha-1) and three rows spacing (15, 20 and 25cm) used and combined 12 treatments in total. The experiment was laid out as a randomized complete block design with a factorial arrangement in three replications. All yield components teff were significantly affected by different row spacing except straw yields of teff. The interaction of seed rate and row spacing showed significant difference for yield and yield components of teff. Significantly higher mean values of teff were found by the interaction of 10 kg seed rate ha-1 and 25 cm row spacing. Significantly higher panicle length (36.9), number of tillers per plant (5), number of productive tillers per plant (4) of teff was recorded from interaction of 10 kg seed rate ha-1 and 25 cm row spacing. Higher dry biomass (2591 kg ha-1) and grain yields (1267 kg ha-1) of teff were recorded from interaction of 10 kg seed rate ha-1 and 25 cm row spacing. Mean of highest harvest index (49%) of teff was recorded from interaction of 10 kg seed rate ha-1 and 25cm row spacing as compared to others. Significantly higher straw yields (1488 kg ha-1) was recorded from interaction of 15kg seed rate ha-1 and 20 cm row spacing as compared to other treatment combinations. Therefore, the use of 10 kg seed rate ha-1 together with 25 cm row spacing was the optimum seed rate and row spacing and 10 kg ha-1 was profitable for the production of teff. To make definite conclusion further research for more seasons and location is required to give recommendation for the study area.

Microbial fertilizers containing Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus megaterium isolates are one of the important organic fertilizers, which strengthen the immune system of plants against harmful effects and promote the plant growth by fixing nitrogen from the atmosphere, to obtain better quality products. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different liquid microbial fertilizer doses (0, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 ml 100 L–1) on the yield and yield components of the coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) grown in Bayburt in 2018 and 2019. The experiment was set up as three replicates in randomized complete block design. The results indicated that there was a considerable variation in the yield and yield components of coriander, and the yield significantly increased as the dose of microbial fertilizer was increased. The maximum essential oil content and seed yield were recorded for the plots grown under the F1 and F3 treatment. It was found that the maximum seed yield was obtained in the F3 treatment (839.0 kg ha–1), and the seed yield decreased in the F4 (754.1 kg ha–1) and F5 (759.9 kg ha–1) treatments. Although the increase in the microbial fertilizer dose increases seed yield, using the fertilizer in optimum dose can be more profitable. Therefore, this study suggests that the fertilizer dose “F3” can improve the productivity of the coriander grown in the areas treated with microbial fertilizer.

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, during November 2008 to March 2009 to examine the effects of mimosa (Mimosa invisa) compost and phosphorus on the yield and yield components of lentil variety BARI Masur6. Two factors were: a) Mimosa invisa compost and b) phosphorus fertilizer. Mimosa invisa compost were used in four rates- 1 (M1), 5 (M2), 10 (M3) and 15 (M4) t ha-1. Five rates of phosphorus fertilizer were: ‘no’ phosphorus (P0), 25% RDP (P1), 50% RDP (P2), 75% RDP (P3) and 100% recommended dose phosphorus (TSP @ 85 kg ha-1) (P4). The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. Mimosa invisa compost had significant effect on the crop characters except number of branches plant-1. The highest seed yield (1435.33 kg ha-1) was observed in M2 treatment (5 t ha-1) and the lowest seed yield (1220 kg ha-1) was observed in M4 treatment (15 t ha-1). Phosphorus had a significant effect on all the plant characters. The highest seed yield (1464.17 kg ha-1) was observed in P4 treatment (100% RDP) and the lowest was observed in P0 treatment. The interaction effect of Mimosa invisa compost and phosphorus on the yield of lentil was significant. The highest seed yield was observed (1630 kg ha-1) in M2×P4 treatment and the lowest was in M3×P0 treatment (1000 kg ha-1). Variety and sulphur play a significant role in the physiological growth and yield of crops such as groundnut. Even so, there has been little information on the application of variety and sulphur in groundnut. Therefore, an experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh to investigate the effect of sulphur on yield and yield components of two groundnut varieties. The experiment comprised two varieties of groundnut viz. BARI Cheenabadam-8 and Bina cheenabadam-6; and five levels of sulphur viz. 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 kg ha–1. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Among the parameters leaf area index  (2.03), dry matter plant–1 (50.36 g),  number of primary branches plant–1 (10.33 cm), number of secondary branches plant–1 (9.27 cm), number of pegs plant–1 (46.27), number of total pods plant–1 (37.80), 100-pods weight (96.82 g), 100- seeds weight (46.25 g), shelling percentage (85.29%), pod yield (3.13 t ha–1), seed yield  (2.67 t ha–1), stover yield (6.84 t ha–1), and harvest index (31.37 %) were the highest  in BARI Cheenabadam-8, when treated with sulphur 60 kg ha–1. The lowest values of all these parameters were found in Binacheenabadam-6, when no sulphur was applied. This study suggested that BARI Cheenabadam-8 combined with sulphur 60 kg ha–1 could be applied for obtaining the highest yield of groundnut. J. Bangladesh Agril. Univ. 17(1): 1–8, March 2019

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the adaptability of newly released papaya varieties at Chano Mille research site of Arba Minch Agricultural Research Center during 2019-2020 cropping seasons. The three hermaphrodite papaya varieties namely; Braz-HS1, Koka-HM1 and Meki-HL1 were used for the study and laid-out in a Randomized Complete Block Design in three replications. Data on yield and yield components were collected and analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) through Statistical Analytics System software. The ANOVA results revealed that there were significant variations among papaya varieties for the studied parameters. Significantly, the highest number of fruits plant-1, number of leaves and fruit yield were obtained from Braz-HS1 papaya variety. The fruit yield of Braz-HS1 variety was 46% higher than that of Koka-HM1. In general, Braz-HS1 papaya variety performed (in terms of number of fruits and fruit yield) better than the rest two varieties. Thus, Braz-HS1 papaya variety could be recommended for the papaya growers in the study area and vicinity with similar agro-ecology. Int. J. Agril. Res. Innov. Tech. 11(2): 72-75, Dec 2021
