The aim of this study was to determine the physical and mechanical properties of Cross laminated timber (CLT) made from oil palm (Elaeis guineensis. Jacq) stem waste combined with thinned platinum teak (Tectona grandis ) wood. CLT was made into two types, namely CLT type A (teak-palm-teak) and CLT type B (teak-teak-teak). The CLT was 150 cm in length and 20 cm in width, with variation of the thickness of 3,0 cm, 4,5 cm, and 6,0 cm, and the glue spread of 300 g/m². The results showed that CLT type B has better physical and mechanical properties than CLT type A. Generally, CLT made of lamina with a thickness of 4,5 cm showed the best performance of physical and mechanical properties. Platinum teak and palm oil stem waste have the potential to be used as a source of CLT raw materials because of the moisture content, flexural modulus (MOE), and fracture modulus (MOR) that meet the JAS 1152 standard.Keywords: Cross laminated timber, platinum teak, oil palm stem, physical properties, mechanical properties

The possibility of obtaining wood and plant plastics without a binder (WP-WB) in the presence of a catalyst of man-ganese-containing sodium vanadomolybdophosphate has been investigated. The use of this catalyst makes it possible to reduce the temperature of hot pressing in closed molds from 1,800°C to 1,600°C. The fractional composition of the initial press raw material influences physical and mechanical properties of WP-WB. Higher values of the plastic properties are obtained by using a 0.7 mm fraction, which is associated with an increased specific surface area of the particles compared to 1.3 mm particles. The results has showed that the samples obtained by using the catalyst have increase in strength properties (flexural strength, flexural modulus, hardness) at lower pressing temperature, but reduction of water resistance performance has been observed . This is explained by the increase in the content of functional groups when using a catalyst. The process of obtaining plastic can be broken down into two successive stages: the first is hydrothermal destruction of lignin-carbohydrate complex (initial moisture of the press raw material is 12%, the temperature of hot pressing in closed molds is 160 ... .180 ° C) and partial chemical activation of lignin as a result of hydrogen peroxide and catalyst application; the second stage - formation of plastic with the formation of a network structure due to the formed functional groups. It is established that the values of physical and mechanical properties of WP-WB are higher than those of plastic obtained on the basis of plant raw materials (PP-WB). This can be explained by the fact that lignin of coniferous species has the guaiacylpropane structure, while plant raw material has a hydroxyphenylpropane structure

The present investigation aims to determine the physical and mechanical properties in three-layer boards of Teak (Tectona grandis), Seike (Cedrelinga catenaeformis) and Mascarey (Hieronima alchorneoides), from the PISMADE S.A. Company, Canton Riobamba, province of Chimborazo. The three specimens used for each of the species in each of the tests performed were worked on using the ASTM D143-94 standard for the tests of parallel compression, perpendicular compression and flexion, and the DIN-52182 standard, with the main variation in thickness measurements caused by the commercial use established by the company. Mechanical tests showed that Seike had the best results, being superior in two tests: perpendicular compression and flexion. Teak tests gave us results that were superior in the perpendicular compression test. Mascarey, unlike the two species mentioned above, had complications during the trials due to problems with the glue between layers. Resumen La presente investigación pretende: Determinar las propiedades físicas y mecánicas en tableros tricapa de Teca, Seike (Cedrelinga catenaeformis) y Mascarey (Hyeronima alchorneoides), Empresa PISMADE S.A., cantón Riobamba, provincia de Chimborazo; para lo cual se utilizaron 3 probetas por cada una de las especies en cada uno de los ensayos realizados, las mismas fueron trabajadas con base a la Norma ASTM D143-94 para las pruebas de compresión paralela, compresión perpendicular y flexión y la Norma DIN-52182, teniendo como principal variación en las medidas de espesor debido al uso comercial establecido por la empresa. Las pruebas mecánicas mostraron que Seike tuvo los mejores resultados al ser superior en dos ensayos: Compresión perpendicular y flexión. Los ensayos con Teca nos dieron como resultados que es superior en el ensayo de compresión perpendicular. Mascarey a diferencia de las dos especies mencionadas anteriormente tuvo complicaciones con los ensayos debido a problemas con el pegamento entre capas. This research aimed to examine the physical and mechanical properties of particle boards based on the composition of raw materials and adhesive content and know the treatment of the composition of raw materials and the best adhesive content and meet the standard JIS A 5908-2003. The research was conducted at Wood Workshop Laboratory, Wood Processing Laboratory Faculty of Forestry,Tanjungpura University and Laboratory of PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara Pontianak. The adhesive used is Urea Formaldehyde with 52% Solid Content. Comparison of the composition of rice husks and sengon varies namely rice husk 50%: sengon 50%, rice husk 60%: sengon 40% and rice husk 70%: sengon 30%  and variations in the levels of UF adhesives, namely 14% and 16%, with target density 0,7 gr/cm3. The particleboard was 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm Pressing at temperature 140oC for 8 minutes, with  pressure of 25 kg/cm2. The research results of the study of density and moisture content meet the standards JIS A 5908-2003. The best particle values of rice husk and sengon  with composition a ratio of  rice husk 50%: sengon 50% , 16% adhesive content  16%, with density value of  0,7072 gr/cm3, moisture content 9,1949 %, thick development 12,3210 %, water absorption 68,8270 %, MOE 12110,7273 kg/cm2, MOR 161,0025 kg/cm2, firmness sticky 1,9320 kg/cm2, screw holding strength 62,3124 kg.Keywords : adhesive, composition, particle board, rice husk, sengon

This study aims to examine the physical and mechanical properties of gypsum board from Acacia mangium Willd wood waste based on gypsum content and wood powder size. This study refers to the JIS A 5417-1992 standard. This research were conducted at Wood Work Shop laboratory for the preparation of raw materials, Wood Technology laboratory Faculty of Forestry for board making and testing the physical properties of gypsum boards, and  PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara laboratory to test the mechanical properties of the gypsum board. The material used is  A. mangium W. Wood powder, gypsum flour, water and borax. The study uses Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely factor A (gypsum content) which consists of gypsum content of 400%, 500% and 600% of the weight of A. mangium W. wood powder, and factors B (wood powder size) consists of 20 mesh passes 40 mesh retained and 40 mesh passes 60 mesh retained. The results showed that the density (600% gypsum content of 40 and 60 mesh retained wood powder size), moisture content, thickness swelling, MOE (600% gypsum content of 40 and 60 mesh retained wood powder size) fulfill JIS A5417-1992 standard. The best gypsum board is gypsum board with gypsum content of 600% with a wood powder size is 40 mesh.Keyword: Acacia mangium, gypsum board, gypsum content, wood powder size.

The objective of this research was to highlight the economic importance of the optimal use of products and byproducts of oil palm. In Colombia, productive crops per hectare can generate, over one year, an average of 3.14 tons of oil, and up to 21.68 t of solid and liquid waste when the plant is on a productive stage. These data allowed the researcher to estimate that more than nine million of t of solid and liquid waste was produced from the 450 131 ha present in 2014, in Colombia; the produced biomass was used to generate energy and steam, releasing carbon dioxide back again into the environment. These residues have great potential in many industries, some to be developed, therefore, it is of special importance to try to maximize the use of waste produced by oil palm production, to generate economic and environmental benefits. An example of this is the palm kernel cake, with a nutritional potential in animal feed, fiber in the biocompound industry, biomass and stipe in the timber industry, glycerol, biodiesel, and liquid effluents in the chemical and biotechnological industry. The use of these raw materials may help to establish a positive balance in the cultivation of this species of oil palm in the country.

Palm oil palm is one of the solid waste produced by oil palm plantations every harvest. Chemical analysis of palm oil palm oil pellets showed that there are components of cellulose, hemiscellulose, and lignin that show that palm oil pellets have the opportunity to be further processed into useful and economically valuable products. Palm waste contains cellulose by 34.89%, hemiscellulose by 27.14%, and lignin by 19.87%. The analysis conducted on raw materials includes the analysis of water content and cellulose levels of palm oil palm oil. 46.6% and cellulose levels of 29.2%. In this study quantitative analysis was conducted in the form of cellulose conversion and oxalic acid yield. The largest cellulose conversion was obtained at the use of 70% nitric acid concentration and 80 minutes reaction time of 58.56%.

Fragments of decorated floor tiles were retrieved from the Akko Tower shipwreck, Israel. Most tiles were made of bright brown fired clay with a white glaze decorated with colored stenciled motifs (Type A); and others consisted of a red-brown fired clay body, coated with a brown pigment covered with transparent brown glaze (Type B). This study aimed to characterize the two tile types; to reveal information concerning the manufacturing process; and to determine the origin of their raw material. A multidisciplinary approach was used, including light microscopy, SEM-EDS, electron probe microanalysis with wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EPMA-WDS), XRD, Raman spectroscopy, and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) analyses. The characterization of both tile types demonstrated the use of different raw materials. The Type A tiles were covered with tin-opacified majolica glaze and colored with various mixtures of pigments. The blue color was due to pigment rich in cobalt; the yellow color was due to Naples yellow and lead-tin yellow I minerals; and the green, orange, and brown colors were all prepared by mixing the Naples yellow pigment with different minerals. These majolica glaze tiles were probably manufactured in Sicily. The brown coating of the Type B tiles was due to pigment rich in lead and iron minerals. These tiles were produced with different manufacturing processes, and apparently made in France.
