The synthesis of some empirical researches revealed that the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL) has a heterogeneous effect size on the mathematical critical thinking skills (MCTS) of primary school students in Indonesia. However, it seems that no researches were investigating the causative factors of the heterogeneity of primary students’ MCTS through PBL. Therefore, this meta-analysis research was employed to examine three potential factors that were PBL class capacity, PBL treatment duration, and mathematics topic predicted as the causative factors of the heterogeneity of primary students’ MCTS. The Q Cochrane test by using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) application was used to examine these potential factors. The synthesis of ten primary studies published in 2015 – 2020 and indexed by Scopus, Google Scholar, Sinta, and Web of Science, showed that PBL treatment duration and mathematics topic were the significant factors causing the heterogeneity of primary students’ MCTS. However, PBL class capacity was not a significant factor causing the heterogeneity of primary students’ MCTS. Thus, primary school mathematics teachers should consider PBL treatment duration established and mathematics topics selected in cultivating primary students’ MCTS by implementing PBL.

Critical thinking skills are important to practice early on in elementary school. It is believed that STEM based education could trigger the students to more critical. Individuals who have critical thinking skills will be able to communicate well. Many research results show that critical thinking skills can be stimulated by applying project-based learning in class. This research aims to describe critical thinking skills based on communication skills by using STEM-based Project-Based Learning. The research is a mixed-methods study. The population of this research consisted of fifth graders of Public Primary School 3 Pakis. The research instruments used were critical thinking skills tests, communication skills questionnaires and interview guidelines. The quantitative data was selected by purposive sampling technique. The qualitative data was based on the communication skills levels: high, moderate, and low. Based on the triangulation data it shows that students with high critical thinking skills reached the aspect of analyzing arguments; the moderate level could achieved simple aspects of explanation; while the lower level critical thinker only reaches the aspect of focusing questions. The STEM approach applied in project-based learning is able to encourage students to be able to communicate verbally and improve their critical thinking skills in solving problems.

Critical thinking skills must be owned by primary school students to face the 21st-century learning era. It can be trained in schools by implementing a discovery learning model in learning processes. This research aims to analyze and find out how discovery learning effectiveness assisted by interactive video toward critical thinking skills of Social study for fourth graders. The research methodology was quasi-experimental research while the technique of sampling was purposive sampling. In this research, Public Primary School 02 Pringapus functions as control group which was intervened by discovery learning and Public Primary School 01 Pringapus functions as experimental group which was intervened by discovery learning assisted by interactive video. The techniques of collecting data were critical thinking skill question, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The results of classical accomplishment showed that the result of control group was 54.84% with average score 70. Meanwhile, the experimental group obtained 96.67%, with average score 76.67. The results of n-gain score of control group was 0.34 while the experimental group was 0.42. Both of them were categorizeed moderate. The findings showed that discovery learning implementation assisted by interactive video was effective in improving social study critical thinking skills of primary school students. This research is expected to be basis of developing and improving social study critical thinking skills for primary school students.

This study aims to analyze Problem-based Learning models intended to improve critical thinking skills in elementary school students. Problem-based learning models are learning processes where students are open minded, reflexive, active, reflective, and critical through real-world context activities. In this study the researcher used a meta-analysis method. First, the researcher formulated the research problem, then proceeded to review the existing relevant research for analysis. Data were collected by using a non-test technique by browsing electronic journals through Google Scholar and studying documentation in the library. Seven articles were found through Google Scholar and only one was found in the library. Based on the analysis of the results, the problem-based learning model can improve students' thinking ability from as little as 2.87% up to 33.56% with an average of 14.18%.

Recent instructions has been focusing on critical thinking skills by utilizing contextual learning resources. Therefore, this study was conducted by aiming at describing the quality of local culture-based students’ worksheet from the aspect of content, instructional design, instructional media, and the product users in accordance with the characteristics of primary school students. The integrated local culture-based worksheet was developed by using ADDIE model (analyze, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). The data collected n study were analyzed descriptive qualitatively. Further, this study produced a thematic students’ worksheet on three main topics. The perception of the expert of instructional content to the integrated local-culture based worksheet was also in excellent category. On the other hand, the perception of the expert of instructional design and instructional media were in good category. Lastly, the perception of the students as the product users was in excellent category. Thus, it can be concluded that the developed worksheet has been suited to the primary school students’ characteristics.
