THE EFFECT OF APPLYING SENTENCE COMBINING TECHNIQUE ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT

This study aims to discover the effect of applying sentence Combining Technique on students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the eight (VIII) grade students of SMP Swasta Prayatna Medan with eight parallel classes. The samples of the research were 20% of the totaling number of students divided into two groups, experimental and control group which were chosen by using random sampling technique. Seventy two students were taken as the samples. The experimental group was taught by using Sentence Combining Technique, while the control group was taught by using conventional teaching. The instrument for collecting the data was a writing test. Pearson Product Moment formula was applied to obtain the reliability of the test. Based on the calculation, it shows that the reliability of the test was 0.86 categorized as high reliability. Then, after analyzing the data, it was found that the value of tobserved was 5.57 with the degree of freedom (df)=70 at the level of significance (α = 0.05). It means that tobserved is higher than ttable (5.57 > 1.67). The result of this study shows that Sentence Combining Technique has a significant effect on students’ achievement in writing descriptive text.

This study aims to discover the effect of applying Semantic Mapping Strategy on students’ speaking achievement. It will be conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research is the eight (VIII) grade students of SMP Budi Murni 3. The samples of the research are two classes divided into two groups, experimental and control group which will be chosen by using random sampling technique. Thirty-one students will be taken as the samples. The experimental group will be taught by using Semantic Mapping Strategy, while the control group will be taught by without using Semantic Mapping Strategy. After analyzing the data, it was found that the value of tobserved was 3,12 with the degree of freedom (df)=60 at the level of significance p (0,05) = 2,000. It means that tobserved is higher than ttable (3,12>2,000). The result of this study shows that Semantic Mapping Strategy is significant effect on students’ speaking achievement.

This study aims to discover the effect of debate technique on grade XI students’ speaking achievement. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the elepent ( XI ) grade students of MA Swasta Robitotul Istiqomah Huristak. The samples of the research were two classes which consisted of experimental and control group which were chosen by using random sampling technique. They are consist of 57 students. The experimental group was taught by using Debate Technique, while the control group was taught without using Debate Technique. After analyzing the data, it was found that the value of tobserved was 0,13 with the degree of freedom (df)=55 at the level of significance a(0,05) = 2,004. It means that tobserved was lower than ttable (0,13>2,004). The result of this study showed that Debate Technique was not significantly affect on students’ speaking achievement.

This study aims at investigating the effect of using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Method on Students’ Achievement in Writing Recount Text. This study was conducted by experimental research. The population of this study was the students of the tenth grade of SMA SWASTA SULTAN ISKANDAR MUDA MEDAN. The total number of the population was one hundred sixty students in 6 classes. There were sixty students chosen as the sample by using random sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, namely control group and experimental group. The experimental group was taught by using CTL Method and control group was taught without using CTL Method. The instrument for collecting the data was writing test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the analysis shows that t-observed value is higher than t-table (2.34>2.00) at level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom 58. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the findings of this study, it was found that there is a significant effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Method on students’ achievement in writing recount text. This study was aimed to find out the effect of  Team  Assisted Individualization (TAI) method on students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the first (X) grade students of SMA Al-Hidayah Medan. It consisted of  104 students with 3 parallel classes. Students were chosen as the sample by using random sampling technique. There were two randomized groups, namely experimental group and control group. Class X-1 with 36 students became the experimental group while class X-2 with 36 students became control group. The Experimental group was taught by using Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method and the control group was taught without a treatment. The instrument which was used for collecting the data was writing test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result showed that the mean of score in post-test for experimental group ( 68.48) ) was higher than control group (66.53). The value of tobserved (2.94) is higher than the value of ttable (1.994) (a = 0.05 ) with the degree of freedom (df) = 70. So, alternative hypotheis (Ha) was accepted and the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method significantly affected students’ achievement in writing descriptive text. Keywords : Team-Assisted Indiividualization, Writing Descriptive Text

This study attempts to investigate the effect of applying clustering technique on the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph. The research design of this study was an experimental one. The population of this study was grade VII of MTSs Al Abraar totaling to 60 students of two parallel classes. The data were obtained from random sampling technique through lottery. The class VII-A became the experimental group and was given the treatment by using clustering technique while class VII-B became control group and was given treatment without using clustering technique. The instrument of collecting data was writing test and inter-rater was used to obtain the reliability of the test. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was also obtained that tobserved is higher than ttable (1.760 > 1.673) at the level of significance (α = 0.05) and degree of freedom (df) = 58. It means that null hypothesis was successfully rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. As the conclusion, there is a significant effect of applying clustering technique on the students’ achievement in writing descriptive paragraph.

This research aims at proving that the use of using Skimming and Scanning techniques are effective in improving reading comprehension of grade-eleven students of SMA Negeri 1 Tana Toraja. The method used in this research was true-experimental design random assignment pretest-posttest control group. The samples of this research were selected from the population of grade-eleven students of SMA Negeri 1 Tana Toraja by using random sampling technique. The instruments of data collection were observation checklist, questionnaire items and tests. The data were analyzed by using t-test statistical and descriptive methods. Based on the analysis, the result score of experimental class is 80.27 and control class is 67.02. By applying level of significance 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) 48, the t-counted value (4.3) is greater than t-table value (2013). Furthermore, based on the result of effectiveness indicators showed the score is 83% it means that the techniques are effective. In other words, applying skimming and scanning techniques are effective in improving students reading comprehension of the grade eleven students of SMA Negeri 1 Tana Toraja. Edmodo is a proper Learning Management System (LMS) in teaching writing. Edmodo was chosen because the features of Edmodo can help students to write their ideas. This research was intended to know the effectiveness of using Edmodo to teach writing analytical exposition text. this research used quantitative approach, while the design used was posttest-only control group design. In this research used two classes, there are experimental group and control group. In the experimental group used Edmodo, and in the control group was taught using conventional teaching. To collect the data, post writing test in experimental and control group were administered. Data were analyzed by using mean scores, standard deviation, and independent sample t-test. In result of this research showed that p value was lower than alpha value. It can be concluded that using Edmodo to teach writing analytical exposition is effective.

<span lang="EN-AU">This research aims to reveal the development of Augmented Reality-based learning media to increase motivation to learn computer assembly materials. This research is an research and development type. The population was ninth students of SMP Harapan Ananda Kubu Raya totaling 112 students. The sample was 68 students with proportional random sampling technique. Data Collection using a questionnaire. To test the hypothesis, one-tailed t-test was used. Data analysis was performed descriptively. The results showed that one-tailed t-test data is posttest questionnaire motivation experimental class and control sig 0.000 &lt;α 0.05, so it can be concluded that the motivation to learn the experimental group was higher than the control group.</span>

This study deals with the effect of Guiding Questions Technique on Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text. The objective of the study is to find out whether the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text taught by guiding questions technique is higher than that taught by using word webbing technique.. This study was conducted by using experimental design. The population of the study was the students of grade VIII of SMPN 35 Medan in the academic year 2015/2016, where there were 6 classes of VIII and there were two classes were selected as the sample by applying random sampling. The sample was divided into two groups. The Experimental group (VIII 1) was taught by applying Guiding Questions Technique, while the control group (VIII  2) was taught by applying Word Webbing Technique. The data of the study were obtained from the students’ score of writing test. To determine the reliability of the test, the writer used Pearson Product Moment formula. Based on the calculation, the coefficient of reliability of the test was 0.85. It showed that the test was reliable and the reliability was very high. There were two data used in this study. They were pre-test and post-test. After analyzing the data, the result of the study showed that t-observed (3.698) was higher than t-table (2.712) (t-observed ˃ t-table) at the level of significance of α = 0.05 and at the degree of freedom (df) = 38. The result of this study showed that students’ achievement taught by using Guiding Questions Technique is higher than that taught by using Word Webbing Technique or in other words the hypothesis is accepted.
