This study aimed to investigate and classify faculty members’ instructional priorities for adopting OER. In-depth interview data were collected from 10 faculty members from different regions and analyzed with NVivo 10. The original supposition was that the well-established instructional priorities, effectiveness, efficiency, and appeal would apply. However, it was found that in adopting OER, these faculty members had four instructional priorities: effectiveness, efficiency, appeal, and extension. Effectiveness was the most important consideration, followed by extension, appeal, and efficiency. Regional differences were also apparent. These findings were drawn upon to propose an elaborated model of instructional priorities for adopting OER.

This article describes findings from a qualitative study that investigated the lived experiences of four mothers recovering from crack cocaine addictions who lost custody of their children. The project was guided by feminist interpretive inquiry, van Manen’s approach to hermeneutic phenomenology, and involved thematic analysis of in depth interview data. By telling the stories of these women and using their own words as well as interpretive poetry written by one of the authors to describe their suffering, our research offers important insights to professionals involved in the field of addictions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to build upon the paucity of UK research on gay men and how they manage their identities, bodies and selves in the workplace. Particular focus is placed on gay male professionals working in positions of authority and how they make sense of themselves against the dominant expectations of professionalism. Design/methodology/approach The study draws upon in-depth interview data with eight gay male professionals working in positions of authority. Findings Overall, the research reveals that although the majority of participants had disclosed their sexuality in the workplace, they actively sought to integrate and normalise their gay identities. Gendered organisational norms significantly impacted upon the ways they presented their identities, bodies and selves. This was brought into focus where participants had to exercise authority. There were limited opportunities to present non-normative forms of masculinity. Originality/value This paper adds to a dearth of studies on gay men, professionalism and managing their bodies, selves and identities in the workplace. The paper builds upon and contributes to our understanding of how gay men use and construct their bodies and their self-identities as professionals. An area that has had little empirical investigation. Furthermore, the paper contributes to our understanding of organisational heteronormativity and professionalism in the workplace. The paper draws attention to issues of diversity and inclusion challenging heteronormative discourses of professionalism which are draped in masculinity. This paper highlights how professionalism serves as a normalising process that pressurises gay men to perform a specific type of masculinity. The paper argues for a more inclusive reappraisal of the meanings attached to the term professionalism.

Legal financial obligations (LFOs) are routinely assessed by the courts and corrections agencies. Yet, little is known about how individuals under correctional supervision experience and perceive legal debt. Understanding perceptions of LFOs is critical as research suggests that individuals who believe that criminal justice sanctions are fair and just are more likely to perceive the system as legitimate and comply. The current study examines in-depth interview data with individuals on probation or parole to understand perspectives of LFOs and what factors may condition these views. The results suggest that participants’ views are quite varied—expressing that they deserve some level of financial punishment, particularly in restitution cases, but they question additional costs that are not directly linked to the circumstances of the case, such as supervision fees, that exacerbate a perceived experience of double jeopardy or contradict the perceived purpose of the monetary assessment. Subgroup analyses suggest that individuals with a conviction for a sexual offense have secondary financial sanctions that deepen perceptions of inequities in the system.

This article explores incidents of hate crime targeted at transgender people. Drawing on in-depth interview data, it challenges and extends established theorisations of the significance of ‘difference’ and ‘vulnerability’ in relation to victimisation. It introduces and emphasises the idea of ‘visibility’ as a more useful lens through which to understand the systematic harm caused by hate crime victimisation. Through an analysis of complex identities, the article argues that current conceptualisations of ‘visibility’ do not appreciate the complex, intersectional nature of visibility, which is key in understanding how people navigate their identities in different spaces and contexts.

On the last Accounting National Symposium at Banjarmasin, a quantitative accounting research approach was still dominating in the paper presentation, eventhough this event had been conducted more than a decade. So, why the quantitative approach or positive paradigm is still strong enough in its position and having a good track of development during the penetration of a qualitative approach? By understanding the positivist accounting researcher’s thought about qualitative approach, a gap could be seen and then used for developing both approaches simultaneously. This research is on the area of an interpretive paradigm and using case study method. By using in-depth interview, data are collected from informan at Gadjah Mada University, Brawijaya University, and Airlangga University. The results, all informan accept the qualitative approach or a multiparadigm accounting research with a certain note, especially regarding to the research stages. Besides, they think about the need for a dialogue between quantitative and qualitative researchers.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research is to know how the role of government actors, private or investors and indigenous institutions (Subak and Pakraman) in the management of land resources (including water) so that the conversion of agricultural land can be prevented. The study was conducted in Tabanan, Bali Province. Depth interview techniques and stakeholder analysis as an approach of this research. A stakeholder analysis is instrumental to understand the social and institutional context of a program or project activities. The purpose of stakeholder analysis is to determine interests and their authority in preventing the conversion of agricultural land. The results showed that there are two forces actors (stakeholders) in the management of land resources (including water). The government in collaboration with investors and has a role as a player, while Subak and Pakraman have a role on the position of the object. Power relations are played by actors of government is still dominant compared to indigenous institutional Subak and Pakraman. Investors who have the capital strength and enthroned as the ‘king’ always pave the spatial plannings are on ‘profit-seeking’ biggest for himself. Power is seen as a mechanism of domination which is a form of power against the other in a relationship dominated by dominated or powerfull by the powerless. The duality of land governance (including water) between actors is the dualism solution. The duality that lies in the fact, that he could be seen as rules that a principle for action in a wide range of space and time, while it is the result (outcome) and means looping action thus overcoming space and time. Duality of land governance (including water) shows that in the future that is necessary is to put Subak and Pakraman in a position of political strength parallel to desa dinas and other government institutions.
Keywords: indigenous institutions (Subak, Pakraman), conversion of agricultural land, stakeholder analysis, duality of land governance

In this article, authors offer a CRT-driven analysis of in-depth interview data from two African American principals charged with turning around poverty-impacted, largely African-American populated schools. Both served as social justice-oriented leaders who countered traditional administrative approaches and disrupted racially and/or socioeconomically biased practices. Their leadership and student advocacy methods clashed with district ideals and policies, and each faced severe repercussions. The authors highlight why supporting and retaining such school leaders is necessary, and offer strategies capable of helping the educational community move forward in supporting a vulnerable leadership population commonly assigned to improve the most challenging U.S. schools.

AbstractThe prolonged and pervasive recession in the UK property market has produced significant numbees of households with unsecured housing debt – negative equity. These homeowners are typically recent, first-time buyers and are concentrated in the southern core regions of Britain. Various aggregate estimates exist of the numbers of households with unsecured debt and the amounts of money involved; little is known, however, about individual experiences of negative equity. Here, in-depth interview data are drawn on to explore the different strategies adopted by households in varying social and financial circumstances. Findings are related to more general changes in housing market behaviour and to broader theoretical debates about the growth of home ownership.
